Title: New headset
Post by: Brenjen on January 03, 2007, 09:18:38 PM
I just got a Sennheiser headset & this thing is great. I was debating over what to get because there are so many out there & I must say this one was a great purchase for $37 from Newegg; I had a $50 Logitech usb set I got from Staples locally & this set blows them away in comfort, sound quality, value, & construction. I had norrowed down my purchase to the ones I got or a plantronics, has anyone had both to compare?

OK, need help.

This headset works great, but (there's always a but); my mic seems to work fine, no loss of audio or quality of the audio in windows sound recorder checks but when I use it in AH my squaddies say it starts off sounding good & the more I use it the worse it gets until it becomes to bad to understand.

I think it's just garbled but I'm not sure. What in game settings should I be using, I have an Audigy 2Z sound card & the analog headset mentioned above plugged into the card, not USB.

Any help or ideas as to what might be causing this? Every time it messes up I log out & check it in the sound recorder & it sounds fine.

Static build up? Card needs something plugged or unplugged? I have the newest drivers from the creative site.

Well I unchecked wave in, & looked at the DXDIAG & the sound acceleration was at full, I bumped it back down to 3/4 so I have to test it for a while. I hate to abuse my squad with my chatter for no other reason but to see if the problem is fixed. Oh well they're pretty good folks, maybe they won't be too pissed off.:(

Which one did you get Brenjen? I have a PC155USB but I disconnected the USB since I don't need it and I had a similar problem when I first started using mine a couple of years ago. I will look through my little troubleshooting notebook and see what I wrote down about it if I wrote anything.

Radioshack sells the best headset IMHO.19.99$ with a 5$ warranty.

I bought the PC 150, I had a USB set & I thought I'd get a set to plug into my Audigy 2Z & make use of it for a change.

My squaddies are saying it starts out fine, loud & clear, but then gradually (10-15 minutes) gets scratchy & garbled. I am at a loss for what it might be other than a bad wire to the mic or plug. Dirty plug or socket; might be some lint in it or something. I'm really close to RMA'ing the set & trying a different set but they work so well everywhere else outside of AHII (par for the course)

Ok I found my notes about what I did.

In the properties setup on your soundcard have you tweaked the microphone setting? I am not 100% sure what I did to make it work since I did not write everything down but I have a note about messing with the mic properties.

I have the mic muted and on the advanced portion of it I have the boost box checked and the volume of the mis set at just above 50%. That is what worked for me and we have nearly the same headset mic combo. Sometimes I get a complaint that the guys can barely hear me in any game but I think part of that is the fact that I am trying not to wake up the wife in the room outside of the glass doors.

I think I got it sorted out. I cleaned the female jack on the sound card out with an alcohol soaked swab stick with most of the cotton pulled off & then I plugged & unplugged the male jack on the headset over & over about 20 times & it's been working right since. I adjusted the settings before & it helped the volume but not the fading out & getting scratchy.
