Hello everyone,
I decided to make a new more precise (and it sure is) tutorial on the TE. It is intended for use with TE Version 2.09 Patch 4. It is LONG and has an extra bonus. A table of contents designed to help you find text in the tutorial faster. Also a few hints and tips included as usual with my previous two tutorials. Here is the download link:
http://603sqdrn.collectivelyspaced.com/ah2te2094.zip
NOTE: The previous TE tutorial I generated has been taken off the server (Link is dead). If you want it you will have to contact me, although I think this one more than replaces the previous one.

Thank you. This is invaluable; I spent over two hours manually placing runways, spawn points, the tower, and the hangar. I couldn't figure out why there were mountains on my runway. Now I know! I really, really wish Hitech would update the help files for the game. It's like it's in beta.

Greetings,
I concur! Superb work and a great help. I am now able to place the fields and other stuff.
I do have some questions on the city and other strategic targets. I assume they are also Group Masters and that the zone they are applied to effects what they resupply.
Depots I will place and run roads to the appropriate field.
I so love the learning process :)
Regards,

Please use caution when using this tutorial if you are trying to create main arena maps.
It's a great starting point and much of what is in the tutorial will work for H2H and offline maps, but will not work properly for main arena maps.
-
So where's the turorial for what works on main arena maps?

There isn't one. But all... and I mean all MA map questions have been answered in this forum at least a dozen times.
And in answer to MWL's group master question....

Yes, I should post a caution label, this is to help you get on your feet. I have only made H2H terrains, not MA terrains. Although this is a great learning tool, it is not intended to teach you the rules that must be implemented when generating an MA terrain.
Once again, the tutorial is to help you get off your feet and learn how things are done and what things are, not to teach you how to make MA terrains. As NHawk said, there is a forum where all your questions have been answered, and if you have any questions regarding generating an MA terrain, just ask here and someone that has made an MA terrain in the past (Such as NHawk) will surely answer them.
EDIT: I have placed this warning inside the tutorial not even 1 page from the top and before the introduction and table of contents:
WARNING, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
This message is warning you that this tutorial is intended to get you off of your
feet and get you started in knowing how to use the TE, and knowing what is what.
This tutorial is in no way intended on teaching you how to make a proper MA
terrain. You can however use this tutorial to get you started, then once you think
you are ready to generate an MA terrain, visit the following page to ask any
particular questions regarding making MA terrains:
http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=61
Once again, this is a tutorial to help you learn the interfaces of the TE, and how
to build simple terrains not highly detailed enough for MA use. For a particular
meter of what grade learning you are receiving take this for an example. I, the
author have only made H2H (8-Player) terrains. Therefore I am teaching you from
the knowledge base of how to make H2H (8-Player) terrains.
And once more, if you intend to make an MA terrain, use this tutorial to get you
on your feet, do not use it thinking everything you have learned here will help
you get your terrain accepted.
That was all of it.

Greetings,
Thanks for the post link! I am slapping my forehead right now - I even read those posts!
Okay, got it, Roads, do they have to be supplied by a depot or are they considered in supply as they are limited to approx 10 miles?
Thanks!
-
oooh, search engine . . . . . . drooooolllllll....
found the answer!
Thanks,
-
Incase you didn't find the answer you are looking for, ask someone such as NHawk or Dux, they have made MA and SEA terrains and know how to setup the proper strat settings. I wouldn't know how to generate an operable strat system, since I've only messed with H2H terrains.

i don't know y, i just win!
lol but what this for again i don't like to read a long post
-
Denholm,
Thanks for your help. Your tutorial was great and got me off to a great start.
I will troll with the search engine and, hopefully, complete the mess I have started. :)
Thanks,
-
You're welcome. I'm glad you put it to good use! Now remember, there's plenty of MA map makers here, so if you run into trouble, ask here before skuzzy has to tell you through rejecting your finished terrain.

Don't forget to tell them there is a $10.00 usage fee....

I forgot to mention the part on the bottom of the tutorial. It says, "THIS TUTORIAL IS FREEWARE. IF THIS TUTORIAL WAS SOLD TO YOU CONTACT THE MAKER AT aimdeath@gmail.com".:D

cool! gmail! I have that!
Just leave me be, I am just random stateing!

Denholm, is there an eight letter limit on the name of the map file?
-
You mean the terrain project name? Or the Clipboard map? The clipboard map has to be named after the terrain it is being attached to, the terrain project name must be 8 characters or less.
-
Yes, I meant the former. Hmm! I see.
I have a problem; I made a map named Blue Sky, people downloaded it, and all went well. However, I've updated it, and people are having conflicts because apparently new versions do not overwrite old on client's machines. Merlin tells me I must rename the terrain. Now, how exactly is the best way of going about this? The "save as" option is greyed out in the terrain editor, so I can't save it with another name. I already tried renaming the built terrain to BlSky102, but that caused errors. Do I have to rename every file within the Blue Sky directory before building?
-
Yup... and don't forget to rename the map file in the texsrc folder, too.
Although, it would be simpler if you just told people to delete their old versions.
-
I agree, and that's what I've been doing. However, a large number of people downloaded the first version, and I don't remember all of them. One fellow who had been in my server the day before the terrain change came in and asked, "Where are the enemies coming from when there are no enemy bases?" I replied, "There are Knight bases, look on the western island." He informed me that the western island was quite free of bases. That's when I figured out that there were conflicts. So a large number of people are possibly unaware that there even is a problem, not making the connection between enemy fighters and missing bases.
-
I think I did mention in my tutorial that when you make an update to your terrain after you've already built it, you need to rename the terrain. Otherwise if you placed more mountains and such, someone who has the older version can fly through them while other's have to pull away to prevent from slamming into them.
