When it's RAM for my personal machines?

I ONLY go to Crucial, which is the retail arm of Micron. They OEM for lots of other brands of RAM.

All their ram has lifetime warranties, they guaranty the ram you buy will be compatible with your mainboard (you can select almost any brand and model of PC or motherboard from their site, and they show what's compatible), their prices are usually about as good as Newegg, and shipping costs next to nothing and always Fedex 2-day or better.

I know this sounds like a commercial. Sorry.

I buy tons of stuff from Newegg and Fry's, and I have no complaints with RAM from those guys, but Crucial really is the best way to go for RAM.

I've purchased from all three of the above mentioned & I have never had a problem out of any of the ram, the pricing or the shipping. I say look them all over & like roscoroo said, catch the best deal you can.

OK thanks - what about mixing ram - I've done it before - but does better ram choke with inferior sticks in the setup?

I've mixed slower ram in with faster ram before & it clocked the ram to match the slower stick, but it really depends on the mobo you have. I'd use matched ram & only matched ram if it were me, less likely to have trouble.

I've bought ram from frys twice and both times it was bad.  Since then, I've bought crucial.com memory almost exclusively.  My one exception is I got some really nice G-Skill DDR from newegg, and I have had no problems with that.

I bought some crucial ballistix memory from newegg instead of through the crucial.com website, and it died.  I had to exchange it through newegg, not crucial.com, but they still exchanged it no problem.  Buying direct from crucial may get you a faster exchange since they will cross-ship to you.
