Waiting for explosion....10....9....
-
Ah no, no explosion. I leave that to you on 200 every couple months! :rofl :aok
I was just going to ignore his request.
As I have said before, the panel lines are the easiest thing to do while skinning. If you cannot take the time to trace the ones on the default skin and move them left or right and make them white to create your own template, you will not put the required time and effort into the rest of the skin.
Cheers.

Gonna let it sit until tomorrow night then its going to HTC.

On deck. A little about this plane, VF-10 was on the Intrepid and they returned to WESTPAC after she was repaired from a Kamikaze strike. They were equiped with F4U-4s, this is the CAG bird. If anyone has any information as to whether the plane number was shown on the tail as they were earlier in 1945 I would apprecaite your sharing it.
Cheers

Is it me or do those gunports look..... odd?
Hey Fencer I've noticd a lot of the naval planes had white markings (checkers, slashes, stripes, etc). Were there any other colors besides whit used? I know some yellow stripes are used at times, but I mean, reds, greens, other colors?
Seems like the majority were just white and blue.
-
Krusty oh all knowing (and evidently without books) one...
US Naval aircraft did not employ the multiple colors of the AAF. The one exception to this was the first raid on Tokyo when VF-84 and some other squadrons painted the noses of their aircraft yellow. Someone (Greebo?) is already doing that skin. There are also one or two other examples with yellow stripes (done) and red checkers (not done).
If someone were to post some solid evidence (pics, profiles etc) I would be more than happy to put some color on these planes.
Also, the gun ports have white (tape?) circles over them, I have multiple pictures showing this on that squadrons F4U-4s.
Cheers,

Ah, *that's* what was up with the gunports! Thanks for the clarification.
-
Yeah, colors for USN/MC birds were on the whole pretty drab in color during the war years.
Some exceptions, tho. Bob Galer flew a Wildcat with a red cowl lip and fuselage band.
-
The marines liked to put four sets of tape on each wing so the Japanese would wonder if they had an 8 gun F4U flying.

Updated and otw to HTC.

Fencer,
I hate to ask (hope this doesn't come out like "can you email me your panel lines?") but I'm just curious what technique you are using for the panel line shading. I've been looking (more like drooling) at your recent skins & was wondering what tool you use for that effect. I'm thinking a 100% soft brush at 4-8 pixels wide, black @ 20-40% opacity? I was admiring the panel lines under your recent D-40 skin & started noticing it on some of the others, such as this one.
Also, do you bump up the resolution when you are doing the work then kick it back down to 72dpi when you put it in game? I was thinking about trying that to get a bit more detail when I add the small stuff.
Sorry for the hi-jack, just been admiring & couldn't resist asking.

Edit for something else I've been curious about. I've also noted that your skins have a flat, non-glossy look that I don't get when I put mine in game. How is this accomplished? Thanks if you reply. If not, keep up the excellent work, some day I hope to get my skins on the same caliber as yours.
:aok

Jeepin,
As far as the non-specular vs. glossy look in-game that's handled with material files. Although I thought the material files weren't working properly after the latest patch?
-
Jeepin, PM me with a phone number and a time frame/days I can call you. Let us old DGS wingies talk. :aok
[edit] Have paper and pencil ready. :huh :rofl

It looks better then your original F4U-4.
