In WWII pilots in most planes had a switch that allowed them to switch their guns from "SAFE" to "FIRE". I've read some stories of when pilots forgot to switch to "FIRE" and so they lost an easy kill.
I'm wondering if we can implement the same method into AHII. Instead, by default the switch is on "FIRE" so that begginers won't have any issues remembering to switch to "FIRE". I would enjoy this because it gets annoying when you're flying in a formation and someone gets bored forgetting that there's airplanes ahead and hits the trigger.
It's rather annoying, so the "SAFE" option would really help out, not only so people can press the trigger when they're bored, yet also protecting the planes ahead from the deadly wave of lead.

Protecting planes ahead? Friendlies are protected by killshooter. Enemies don`t need protection.
Don`t put your finger on your trigger until needed ;)

I'm not an MA player, so I don't know if killshooter is on or not, the only arenas I fly in don't have that enabled.
-
maybe a safe could elimate KS completely
but others will kill friendlys for fun
especially the noobs

Actually, depending on the airplane, getting your guns ready for combat could be a royal pain as time-consuming as dropping your tanks (which was not a quick flick of a switch as it is in the game). You might have to turn on a heater, turn on a bulb, and charge the guns. Apparently, fighters didn't just fly around prepared for combat all the time.
-
Yes, that is true, yet this is virtual, and I think adding a "SAFE" switch might be fun.

If you go to options/controls/mapping, you can simply unmap the fire buttons. That would be extremely safe, and wouldn't require HTC to waste any time changing things just for the freeloaders.

I was thinking the same thing. Just switch stick modes for safe/fire.

I posted something on this a while ago, but from what I hear HTC is extremely busy right now, so I wouldn't expect any action on this soon. It's a good idea though, and I personally would love to see it implemented.

Killshooter is your friend. We were giving one kid a hard time because he was ordering around my XO, and I will NOT stand for some snot-nosed, whiney little brat insulting my XO in such a way... anyway, I offered to see if he could shoot me down there in the MA, knowing full well KS was on. He took off, I let him 'win'... "takka takka takka" "Boom!" He comes on shouting "WHOS SHOOTING ME! STOP IT!!!" lol. I felt bad... so I let him do it 3 more times. lol. It was FUNNY!
But yeah, I fly with my goon door open (For realism and speed of deployment) but I am ver trigger happy. Luckily I have an X-45, and I have that middle red button mapped to secondary fire, so I just flip that closed, so even if I do push down on there, I cannot depress the button.

Actually, a safety setting for ordnances would be a very good idea.
It isn't really a problem for fighter planes that can switch back and forth between on-board guns and ordnance, but take for example the Ju-87; the primary fire trigger shoots the machine guns, and the secondary fire button handles the bombs. You can't switch the secondary fire button to anything else in this case, and accidental/unintentional drops do happen.
I've once suggested to Pyro that it might be helpful if the game can put in a 'safety' setting that can be cycled in armament. In this case, (the Ju87 for example), the pilot could press the button he uses to cycle through ordnance like other aircraft, and the secondary armament will cycle between bombs and "safety". The pilot could switch back to 'bombs' in the secondary armament when he is ready to drop.

i like that,
would be useful,
i rearm, say in a JU88, i get back up and make a turn for the enemy, and i hit the bomb button, drop it on a friendly, and there goes say 5 kills

That sound's great. Even that would work if we can't implement an actual safety button. Just cycle through the armament to "SAFE".

The difference between bogie's idea, and yours, is that his idea wasn't stupid.

You're outnumbered hub, you can stop the attacks now.
I think the "SAFE" in the ammo counter would be the best idea. I'm all for it.
-
yes, im for it

Every kid on the planet can think that adding a button that you can push, to keep you from pushing another button is a great idea, but I think it's completely useless. Sorry.

Well, I assume you're talking about the emoticon, yet no, this is not a shade account. I simply switched to a new name cause the other one seemed "lame" to me.

Just messin with ya denholm.
Change your name as much as you like.
But let me tell you this.
I have had this tag since AW on AoHell.
When I found AH I used the same tag. Now I was no uber pilot but I have been asked more than a few times " Hey, is this the same Bronk from AW?".
It nice to say "Yup, same guy." .
Then usually the reminiscing begins.
But once again change that name all you like.

There's not a military in the world that agrees with you. And while Glock might agree with you, I don't know of any other weapon manufactururs who do.

When our planes start shooting real bullets I'll consider safety measures nessesary, I'll also cancel my subscription. :)

Well Bronk, its nice to know you've stuck to the same name. But I kinda got tired of the "603rd" tag since I knew I might not always be the leader of that squadron.
