Title: Ports & CV's Only Arena(What If?)

What if we had an arena/map that had only ports(on islands) & cv's?

The HQ would be on an island with many v-bases..War would likey end in a ground Battle.

Maybe enable all planes from cv for hoots.

Looking for inputs..

If we had this map, it would force people to look at destroying cvs. Instead of dive bombing lancs, we would see more torpedo runs, PT attacks and even more cruisers trying to out gun each other.

I don't really like the enableing all planes from a cv, but overall I really like the idea.

That was the original premise behind the sfma terrain. We’ve had better terrains since then.

I kind of dig the idea, too.   I'm not a huge WWII historian, but it would seem kind of like a Pacific Theater or English Channel arena.  

Don't know how I feel about enabling all planes, though.   I like the idea of being limited to only carrier based planes.  More "realistic" (although I use that word somewhat loosely).

I like the idea minus beeing able to up everything from a CV.

A "naval" map would be awesome.

Interesting idra, would be something different then the normal maps. I wouldnt mind upping in a mission of 20 some odd torpedo planes and doing a run on a cv group

What about a russian front only arena ?

Do you hate this idea as much as I hate a fleet only arena  :) ?

I'd play it, but I think cv's would need to be a little tougher than they currently are.

I for one think that cv duels are pretty fun.  Can't wait till we play another pacific scenario with cv's.

I would say a naval arena is something different and that can't be bad.  How about well spaced islands with everything enabled and lots of cv groups?  Isn't there a low cap on cv groups though?  Since there are now in effect two MA's, those who don't like the cv heavy environment still have a place to go.

Consider though....the GV guys would have seizures.

That alone might be enough to kill the idea, since it seems one of HT's goals is to keep all types of players interacting while they do their own paticular thing.

Id like it.  I wouldnt go for all the planes to be enabled though.   Something like the Slot map used in AvA.   Have a lot of small islands with Vehicle bases and maybe a few very rear bases for HQ and strat.  Ideally the Ports should have a fighter field very close by, with just naval types available.  theres some good fun in CV vs CV action

Good idea, but disable all heavy bombers at all fields. That eliminates the Lancaster problems.

Ah wait, only ports and CVs. No heavy bombers would be available. :)

Then all we'd have to deal with is a ton of people who have never taken off from a carrier asking how to do it. :eek:

I sort of like it but see a few problems.

As soon as this happens everyone's going to cry for a GV only arena, a fighter only arena, a toolshedder only arena...

If they get their way everyone will end up in their own arenas and the diversity we have now will be gone from the MA's.

A (mostly) water map with more CV's than normal might be fun until all your CV's have been sunk.  Then the fun drains out pretty fast.

I'd say keep it like it is but add a few more CV's to certain maps to see if Naval battles increase.

One option is to have a CV heavy arena instead of CV only.  Given its a MA this makes sense.  

CV's do respawn relatively quickly.

It would be neat to have a CV only arena...would be neater if we had a few more carrier based aircraft (Raiden and others).

I do think it's a good idea though, with the exception of using any aircraft

You think taking off from a carrier in a fully loaded Hellcat can be tricky when the boats turning, try it in a B-17, lol

I LOVE the idea, except all planes.  GV guys can always get their way, not every map has Tank towns and all.


No heavy bombers would be great, it would focus more attention to the TBM/B5N & SBD/D3A type bombers.  Personally, i believe these bombers are given very little attention in the game as it is!

Would LOVE to see a swarm of SBD/TBM bombers with Hellcat Escorts attacking a CV group!!  Would be a sight to see!


And i think if we do this, we'd need a bigger task group.  Couple more Destroyers, Cruisers, and maybe even a Battleship??  Would definitely make CV vs CV action that much more interesting!!

ive also thought of that 256x256 Island map, spread out on a 512x512 map would be fun.

Islands would be slightly bigger, and alot more CV's. Heavy bombers would have to fly along way from the mainlands, and as you said, "proper" CV attacks with torpedo runs would then happen.

the main issue would be what do you do when there isnt any cv battles? most people in here want bases less than 12miles apart due to the counterstrike (instant action) culture that has taken grip on most games.

the beaches on the islands would be V-bases or Ports, airfields would be limited to inland mostly. this way CV captures with LVT's will be against GV's, while the airwar happens above them. More realistic.... whoever has air power over the beach, will gain the base.

what?! they can already take well over 3x1800kg bomb. some ships are almost unskinable.

the only reason they need to be so hard now is due to constant low level buffs suiciding over them.

i russian arena wouldnt really work, there aint enough early russian planes.
