thats what the video said they were so ill go with that

All I see is some British soldiers going to ground after jumping out of a boat.
I think the video is trying to imply that the mud is so deep that they can't walk. But what I see is the soldiers laying down in preparation to provide cover for the rest of the soldiers disembarking from the boat.

but if i remember reading somewhere on that site (if i havent gone nuts) that that wasnt planned:D
Edit:nah it just say something about a funny landing:o

Which goes to show that people see what they want to see.
They didn't expect the mud to be so thick and the result was something out of a Keystone Cops movie. Couldn't get better slapstick than that.
ack-ack

I was wondering what you were talking about, so I rewatched the entire video. I see now at the very end what you guys were talking about, waist deep mud.
-
Holy s*** thats a deep mud hole. :lol
-
That's an old video. Apparently they're not Marines just soldiers playing at Marines somewhere near Basra and proving that the Marines do it better. The cameraman is nearly p***ing himself laughing as are most of the lads in muck.
I have to say they were really unlucky to beach just at that point. But it makes for a funny video.

That is helarious. If you have ever ridden dirt bikes near any river with sandy shores... you have seen quicksand. We completely lost a Yamaha YZ250 back about 1974 in quicksand by the Trinity River in Texas. If we had a rope we might could of saved her. Can be some scary stuff if your in it.

HEY, welcome to PRE-2001

The idea is that you scout out the beach first: that's one of the reasons the SBS exist.

I would have court martialed every one of those marines had they been in my command, and I would have imprisoned the skipper of the landing craft for criminal incompetence.
Every single one of those men would have been slaughtered on the beach had this landing been for real. In real combat, soldiers react exactly the way they've been trained. However, soldiers are not often called upon to use "floundering" skills during combat, thus rendering all of them a drag on unit effectiveness. That costs lives.
Yes, this video is old, but to this day, there are 7 combat boots still in the muck on that beach - boots that could have helped us be victorious in Iraq - but no. They had to pick a clam bed to land on.
