Ever since getting a new pc last week, I'm warping all over every time I play.
AMD 64X2 5000+
2 Gigs Ram
GeForce 7600
Cable internet
I've downloaded the 2 patches from the Hardware forums pertaining to AMD dual processors, but I'm still all over the place. I even got a new cable modem and no difference. It's weird, even when I have my settings at a cutoff of 60 fps, I still get 126ish fps and everything is moving real slow. Then I slingshot into overdrive and start warping all over the place. It's so bad, I can't even come close to engaging a con. Help!
Anymore info that might be needed, let me know. Thx in advance.
-
did u d'load amd dual core patch? it is stickied at top of hardware forum.
-
Yep, sure did. I've even tried it in Windows 98 emulation mode. I play 3 other online games and this is the only one I'm having trouble with, so it's not my connection. I downloaded both the patches that the sticky refers to. The strange thing is, I've only experienced the spinning clipboard once, but that was AFTER I downloaded the patches. Only happened once. I'm running hi-res graphics with sliders all the way on detail and am maxing out fps. My refresh rate is 75 Htz. That's why I don't understand why I keep zooming up to 120-130 fps, and it's like everything starts moving in slo-mo, then fps goes back down to 75 and it's warp city baby! This sux. I went from a 1.5 Ghz P4 to a 2.8 Ghz AMD & now I can't play the game, which is the main reason I bought a new pc in the first place. I know all about turning off background processes(I use FS Autostart). So I don't know what the deal is. Very, very frustrating.
-
Ranger, this might just be a coincidence as well. Theres been lots of issues with Warping/bad connections going on in the last week.
-
I hope so. I just tested it again for the 1st time today. Still the same. I got a film of it now. If my kids let me have some free time, I'll make a .wmv out of it for viewing. Even with the film playing at 150%, it still looks in slo-mo. It's weird. I can be all alone out to sea getting 74 fps, then all of a sudden for no reason, I shoot up to 120-130 fps(but looks slo-mo). Then I start warping all over the place. Then I return to 75 fps for a few seconds, then rinse & repeat. With my new cable modem, my connection is better than ever. Really stumped here.(http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/5563/confusedsmiley013yd0.gif) (http://imageshack.us)

Is this happening both online and offline? If only online run a ping plot to see whats going on with the network. If its offline too, then post your Dxdiag here. They need to see the first third or so to check for drivers and conflicts and things.
Also seing its a new box, check to see how many processes you have running (cntrl, alt, delete, click on the processes tab). 20-30 are what your shooting for. New boxes sometimes come with all kinds of extra junk getting in the way. Watch the CPU usage at the bottom of the processes window. With nothing running, from your desktop you should see it only go up a couple percent.
Well its a couple of things to check.
-
I've found that machines coming straight out of the box are usually not tuned for gaming.
hit the msconfig and start up, shut down all the worthless stuff that auto loads into the background.
Then, run spyware on it. Yes, I know, New and all, but I get spyware just going through the Install process of windows lol

How do I run a ping plot? Never had to do it before. If it was my connection, wouldn't all my games have probs., not just AHII?
-
Tested it offline. No warping, but a new problem. All of the icons looked like they were vibrating and the + and - beside the distance number kept going back and forth about 10 times per second, like +-+-+-+- back and forth real fast, even tho I was closing in. Good grief, why do I always seem to have the crazy problems? I run 2 different spyware programs everyday before gaming. Nothing there. I have 30 processes running, with 5 being my firewall & antivirus. These are the same fw & av I had on my last pc, with the exact same settings, so I don't think the problem is there. Only AHII is giving me problems.:cry

Downgrade the driver for your Nvidia... the 9x.xx series is causing all kinds of havoc with the lower cards. I have a 7600GT as well (PCIe) and run it on the 84.66 driver version.
Then, to test if it still might be the Dual Core issue, right click the aceshigh.exe file in your game install, select Properties and put it on Win98-compatibility mode. That will force it to run single core.... if the problem is gone then, youll have to relook into the Dual core patch stuff.
I cannot see it in your dxdiag (you cut that part off), but check your hardware accelleration level in the sounds tab. While this has probably nothing to do with your current issues, it needs to be set to STANDARD, not FULL.
-
I checked it in 98 compatibility mode, still warp city. Sound acceleration is at 75%:(
-
I have to agree with it being the driver. I upgraded drivers and had the exact same icon problem you describe. Rolled them back and problem gone.
Also, I installed another hard drive and operating system to use for games only. I boot to that drive when I play AH and only have 16 processes running. AH is smooth as silk and high frame rates at all times.
Seing as how it's an HP system I'll bet you have over 30, probably closer to 50 processes running after boot. Trim them down.
-
OK Ranger. Im on my second coffee and afraid ill need a little clarification :). Sorry.
When you go into OFFLINE mode, you obviously do not have a warping issue... but you get the "vibrations" things, correct?
When you go ONLINE, you have lag/warp problems, but do not get the "vibrations"?
Did the 98 comp mode or driver downgrade fix the "vibrations" in OFFLINE and is your only problem the warps now? If yes, I wouldnt worry too much about it for the time being. There have been loads of problems and complaints with connection woes in the last week. Some of it has to do with the server memory issues Skuzzy mentioned.
A PS: on your pingplot. The one you pinged is the BBS server, not the game server. To trace down arena issues, you need to ping 206.16.60.39 for any of the main arenas and 206.16.60.38 for all other arenas.
-
I'll try changing drivers. The 98 comp mode did not fix the vibrations offline, or the warping online. I took it down from hires to 512 textures, but that didn't help either. Thx for the help so far. I'll keep ya updated.
-
have you tryed opening your "Task manager" and watch the cpu ussage for a while ??? you may see a program starting up and hogging cpu cycles .
(just an idea of were to look)
but i think its in a driver ... or could even be 2 cards sharing the same irq and fighting over it .... (just thinking)
-
CPU usage is normal 0-2%. I have an even 30 processes running. I use FSautostart to turn off all unnecessary crap as soon as I start up my pc daily. I also run Adaware daily to check for spyware & such. All clear. I just got done reading in my squad's website forum & have a squaddie who is have the exact same issues. New pc, horrible warping, downloaded patches to no avail....It looked almost exact to my thread here. Hmmm, haven't tried kicking it yet! I'll put new drivers in now & try it out. Thx for the help so far. At least with my squaddie (Mailbox) going through the EXACT same situation, maybe we'll have better luck figuring it out. Sigh...
-
ok hmmmmm .... think think think ...
i wonder if a firewall/ AV program is interfering by slowing up packets recieved / transmitted ?? (more pot shots here in the dark )
-
Thx Rosco. I changed driver to the same one Schatzi is using. Made no difference. I hooked up my old pc & the game played fine, so it's not an internet issue. It's gotta be a new pc issue, since Mailbox & I are having the exact same probs. & both got a new pc a week or so ago. Dangit...
-
Something is really wrong here. You said you did not have the spinning clipboard problem until you installed the dual-core optimizer patch? And only had it once after that?
Ok, that is just wrong. Something got mangled somewhere if that is the case. Are you sure you had the motherboard INF/drivers installed before you installed the AMD patch?
-
Skuzzy, I'm not sure what motherboard/INF drivers are, but shouldn't they already be in my pc since it's an out-of-the-box pc? You are correct about the spinning clipboard. It only happened once and it was after I installed the patches. I logged out & back in and it was gone. Haven't seen it again. The best way to explain my gameplay experience atm is for 5-10 seconds everything is moving at half speed. Then, all of a sudden, my fps doubles and everything is moving at double real time speed, like I'm flying at 500 mph any plane. Then it goes back to 1/2 speed after 5-10 more seconds. Every few seconds or so, all the other players warp all around my screen.
-
What you just described is a problem which should have been corrected with the AMD dual-core optmizer patch. But, on the other hand, setting the game to 98/ME compatibility mode should have worked as well.
And yse, if this is an OEM computer it would have all the drivers installed, unless you wiped it out and re-installed the OS.
-
Nope, I don't even know how to re-install the OS. This is the first run of it (XP Pro). Should I system restore it back to the 1st day & start over?
-
Have you gotten rid of hte 9x.xx video card drivers? Worst drivers NVidia has ever shipped. They will cause no end of problems.
-
Rgr that currently using 84.21 drivers. Removed the old ones using add/remove programs then Driver Cleaner Pro for the leftover stuff left behind.
-
Switched to 84.66 drivers, no change in-game. Question: When I start warping all over, other players see me warping on their screens. Would that be a connection issue then? If it was a pc issue, would I be warping on their screens? If it's a connection issue, how come IL-2, Red Orchestra, and Call of Duty play just fine online? It's only AH.
-

HI,
How is your variance ?
-
i have no clue if this would help but try limiting the FPS to 60 instead of "unlimited"
I get the "500mph" feel sometimes when i log into an arena then it take about 1-2 min to become normal (possibly from my slow oscar dialup)
-
Hmm, tried that and immediately got a full system lockup. Could only get Windows to reboot in safe mode.:(
-
From limiting the FPS in game? or is u talking bout something else?
-
When I put it on 60 fps max. Even with the frame rate cap I still am getting 170-190 fps. before it totally locks up my system. Only AH gives me problems. All my other games are running beautifully. Waaaaa!
-
Humm... thats a really weird problem ur having there... wish i could help u out more but i really cant suggest anything else... besides reinstalling AH...
-
I've totally reformatted my system, taking it back to installing Windows. Upon installation, I removed all the crap my pc came with(software). I removed old stock vid driver & installed 84.66 driver for my 7600 GT OC. I installed DirectX 9.0 & AH2. I downloaded both AMD dual core patches. Still a total no-go for Aces High. I've got a very good film of what I see on my screen to send to Skuzzy if he'll look at it. In video settings I set my max fps at 60, but I'm getting 175ish. When everyone is warping on my screen, I'm told I'm warping on other people's screens as well, so it would seem a connection issue BUT when I hook up my old 1.5 Ghz P4 to the same cable modem, AH plays fine(but I only get 20-30 fps, which is the main reason I blew a grand on a new pc anyway!). So it's not the connection. I have 25 processes running & have the same AV & firewall that's on my old pc with the exact same settings. There is absolutely no good reason why AH doesn't play right on this new pc, yet I still have total warpage each & every time I log on to try again. As I stated earlier, all other games(IL-2, Red Orchestra, CoD2) run perfect.
What would make everyone warp all over on my screen, and I on theirs, yet not be a connection issue?!?

If there is some program hogging your CPU and/or your net cponnection it wil lcause this. Please do this and post it here. Go to a command prompt. (Start->Run, enter CMD and press [Enter]), at the commant prompt type 'process > process.txt' (without the quotes) and post it here.
You stated that you had 30 pricesses before your re-install, that is way to many. You should be able to get down to 12-14 processes and successfully run AH.
-
Keep being told "process" is not recognized as a valid internal command. Hey Skuzzy, had a chance to review that film I sent ya?
-
Had extream warping when I got my new PC. Fiddled with everthing for 3 weeks and nothing worked. Broke into the MoBo Bios and found that although the factory installed card was AGP the grafics was set to draw from PCI. Stuck out like a billboard the second I saw it.
May not be at the root of your problem. Hope you find your polderguist soon.
-
MoBo Bios set to PCI Express, which is correct. Thank you though for the idea. The hunt continues....
-
i have an idea (pulling at strings now...)
i'm not too sure if u want to do this, but try under clocking you vid card... (may void warranty)
i have a program that opens a clocking tab in the "nVidia Desplay settings"
like this...
Clocking Tab (http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/1000_1170220347_clockingtab.jpg)
If you want to try it here is the link for the program
X-Setup (8.1) (http://www.x-setup.net/downloads/home.asp?lang=EN)
Instructions: once installed open the "Welcome to XQDC X-Setup Pro 8.1"
Click on the "Helper Applications" and go to "automatic updates" and update it (dont remember if this is necessary but do it anyways).
Close it. open up the welcome screen again and click on the "Classic"
Now you are at a new screen click on "Hardware>Video Cards>NVidia>Geforce" and click on the "GeForce Overclocker" you will get a new popup telling you that if you use it incorrectly it can have negative effects on your computer. click "yes".
Now at the top right put a checkmark in the box (uncheck to remove the tab later on). and close down the program, you will get another popup asking you to reboot, click "no"
now go into the "nVidia Desplay settings" and go to the "Clock Frequency Setting tab" and now click on "manual overclocking" you will get another popup With "terms and conditions" scroll down and click "I accept".
(at first only lower or raise the "Memory Clock Frequency")
-
USRanger, check your PM's. You are describing what I experienced with the November AMD Dual Core Optimizer driver.
-
Thank you, thank you! Hopefully it will FINALLY be fixed!

Thx Ghastly for the old patch, but sadly it did not work....:cry I'm also getting a new bug, walled bases. Check out these pics:

All these pice were taken a few seconds apart. Notice the fps variation in a small amount of time.

FR of 137? You must have VSync off. Try turning it on.
-
That's an in-game setting, right? Btw, before that screenie was taken, I was gettin' 205 fps, no joke.:lol ......:cry
-
unless they moved it, it's a driver setting too...
try Start/control panel/display/settings/advanced/GeForce 6XXX\performance and quality settings/view advanced settings/vertical sync

O.k., turned v-sync on & now when I clck to start AH, I get the good ol' Microsoft Error message. Yayyyy!!!!!:D .......#%&$@@%
-
if it were my system i'd be taking it apart right about now, i think that there is a hardware problem :cry
-
I agree, but this is a brand new off-the-shelfer. The only things I changed were the vid card & power supply. Also, AH is the ONLY program/game/whatever that is giving me any problems whatsoever. This is my first AMD system & I hate it already. Long live intel!
-
Woot! Check this out! Maybe I'll get lucky and the dang thing will just blow up!:furious

I’d take the strange frame rate counts with a grain of salt. The readout may just be a wildly inaccurate symptom/anomaly of your real problem.
Also the offline vibrating icons thing may be a separate issue altogether (vid drivers, etc). Is it possible that it’s happening when you’re online also but you’re just not seeing it because it’s getting masked by the warping?
At any rate, with your warping being an online-only problem and especially with the other guys seeing it happen from their perspective, it sure sounds like a network issue.
Assuming the new mobo has an onboard network card - and particularly if it’s a gigabit unit - I’d try disabling it and sticking in a plain vanilla 10/100 PCI card (e.g. a Linksys LNE100TX).
I’ve seen some squirrelly things happen with gigabit NICs and while there’s usually a slew of parameters you can adjust on them, swapping it out will be a whole lot faster and cover all possibilities (settings and drivers) simultaneously.
Good Luck!
Hardware

USRanger,
another thing i just noticed: you still havent turned down sound accell. Turn down the hardware accelleration in Sounds tab to STANDARD. While i dont think it explains all issues, it certainly does no good.
The second problem is: with VSync off, the FR count is as well. I had FPS in the 300 and 400 range with VSync turned off. Its definitly something that NEEDs to be turned on.
If AH crashes on you with it on, remove the video8.cfg file from the settings folder and delete the cache prior to relaunching the game. (that will reset the vid and gfx settings to default).
-
anomolies like the glitches your aving now can occur because of overheating, might possibly explain the jump in frames, but less likely, just thought id mention it because it hasnt been explored yet...
i used to get this in other games after long periods of use on my old card, obviously AH isnt testing your system too much, so it much just be a standard overheating/cooling issue
-
One thing I done that took me from star trex to the love boat as far a warping goes (amount and degree) was uncheck Hardware Vertex Processing in the video settings on the opening clipboard of AH.
Still a little warping but only about 2% of what it was.
I hate HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone. I will try all of these suggestions. I'll report back with the results (crosses fingers, toes, arms, legs, eyes).
-
OK, v-sync on, sound accel. at standard, deleted video8.cfm. Made no difference. So I either need to swap out my brand new vid card or put in a new network card per Hardware. Which one is the better bet? Wish Skuzzy would jump into this thread. If I get a new network card, do I disable the one on my mobo in Bios, or do I need to remove anything in add/remove programs so there is no conflict? Do they make pci network cards?
-
I'd say at this point just to pull the new vid card. I just looked up the specs for that machine. I'm using the m7680n and they are somewhat similar in many but not all respects. My integrated network card works fine. I haven't read through this entire thread bui I doubt the NIC has anythiing to do with your problem.
Your machine came with integrated video, not a card? Did you disable the stock card in device manager? Did you uninstall the drivers for the stock graphics adapter BEFORE installing the new card? Anyway, I'd now uninstall the drivers for the new card, physically remove the new card, reboot and re-enable the stock graphics and reinstall the stock drivers. The whole process would take only a few minutes and would definitely tell you if your problem is somehow tied to the new card. If the old grahics adapter/drivers weren't properly dealt with BEFORE you installed the new card/drivers that could have caused problems.
If going back to the stock setup cures your problem, you could then try the procedure all over and try using your new card after properly uninstalling the stock graphics adapter and drivers. Really, the whole procedure takes only a few minutes and the more times you do it the faster you get at it! :D
-
A squaddie is sending me an old video card to try out to see if it's my card. My onboard graphics are nvidia 6150 LE. Good enough for AH? It's disabled in bios & device manager, but I bet my problems lie in there somewhere. Something is conflicting. Grrr.
-
Oh, and yeah, I removed old drivers. I upgraded my vid card 4 times over the the years in my old pc, so I got that down pat. Wonder if kicking it will help.:furious
-
Im not sure the NVidia chip is going to run AH, but it will certainly be worth a try. It will certainly not be enough to pplay in the long run, but it can at least tell you if the graphics card is being the issue.
-
If I switched to an ATI card, would I not have this compatability problem like nvidia cards do with AMD 64x2 boards? In the Hardware forum I only see a prob. w/ nvidia cards.
-
Your onboard vid card will run AH from 45-90 FPS easily, i have a GeForce 5200 and it runs AH anywhere from 30-70 FPs
-
Taking off vertex processing seems to have made a big difference. Framerates are under control and a lot less warping. What exactly is it used for? The only prob. I have now is a little warping and I can see about 1 or 2 pixels worth of my desktop around the entire edge of my screen while in-game. Nothing major, but a little irritating.
-
wow... weeks of changing every other setting imaginable its finally fixed... lol
idk what the vertex actually does, but when its turned off on my comp the aa puffs only show 1/4 and things disappear on me
oh and the desktop thing i sorta get that when ever i black out i get 1-2 pixels of the game around the boarder... you may be able to fix that by matching the resolution in AH to your desktop or make it bigger/smaller
eg. desktop 1152 x 864, AH 1152 x 864 > 1280 x 1024
-
Still getting weird graphic anomolies. Could I have a bad (brand new!) video card?
(http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/2892/ahss4mk0.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
-
SOunds like a few of us are having this same little prob. I just got a new rig with the AMD 64 x2 4600+ 2 gig of ram and just dropped an NVidia Geforce 7300GT in it and am warping all over the place !!!!! As with what Ranger is saying its ONLY AH thats giving me an issue.
-
Almost forgot this My Net status in game looks like an EKG

Well ranger if your rig has an Nvidia Network controler there is an update for the drivers and such
I updated them this morning @ about 0400 didnt seem to help but @ around 1130 i jumped on and my lag/ warping is gone and i'm even downloading a few things ( Games and Apps ) in the back ground and have all my detail levels cranked up... So idk whats changed in the past 7 hours but if it helps heres the link for the new network controler drivers
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32
hope it helps
 :aok
 I forgot to mention i kicked the textures back in my vid settings to 512 instead of 1024 so see if that helps
-
Thx Joker, I'll definetely give it a shot.
-
I should read all posts before I reply.
-
Well I'm my machine is running the game just fine with the textures @ 1024 w/the hi res pack in so idk whats going on also i'm not running any updated drivers on my card but the ones that where in the box

What was your original VC, was it by chance an onboard chip??
If so you may have issues with the old drivers...which will reload (at least they do on my compaq box). I have a "onboard ATI" and it caused all kinds of issues. The culprit was the driver that controlled the memory clock....run a drive cleaner {I recommend nasty file remover} and see what you have.....

should have read thru....
Any MB with onboard drivers has a conflict if you switch to another chipset. If you built it yourself its easy to fix...U erase the relevent drivers. The retail boxes invariably have some type of idiot feature that reloads these drivers. My compaq has a seperate HD partition {8G} specifically set aside with the system restore. I had to Fdisk the thing to kill the gremlins....
-
problems may also lie within AH, i assume that AH was originally built for a 32 bit processor instead of the 64 bit processors that you guys are having problems with... Rangfer if u want to get rid of the 1/2 pixles of destop try adjusting ur monitor manually until they go off the edge of the screen
-
Copy that. Will try ALL of em, trust me.

His OB/VC is nVidia, no driver confilcts would appear by installing an independant nVidia VC.

Been 4 months and still no solution. Tried everything except the ol' sledge hammer:mad:
-
still getting these problems with the new updte??
-
Since the update, I don't warp as bad (totally unplayable) but I still warp enough for people to complain every time I play. I love to spend $1000 on a new system that should tear this game up, only to not be able to enjoy it anymore.:(
-
Skuzzy, any last ideas?!?
-
Ranger, i just fixed my warping. I set up a dual boot with Vista and XP pro 64 bit. Was originaly just Vista. I installed AH on XP and it runs beautifully. That tells me its not the hardware but maybe some vista driver problem.
-
Warping while online is normally attributable to two things. 1) The computer is running our of resources and swapping excessively. 2) The Internet connection is flaky.
There are certainly other things that could cause it, but those two things are normally the predominant issues manifested as warping.
If you go into the game and pull up the Net Status chart, it will give a clue. If the "Variance" is bouncing all over the place, then there is a good chance it is a resource issue. If the Variance is not bouncing and is running flat in the center, then it is probably Internet related. Specifically on the uplink to your computer.
A lot of things can effect the uplink to your computer. Any firewall software, anti-virus software, file sharing software will all have an effect on the uplink to your computer.
The NVidia 9x.xx drivers are garbage. You will suffer problems with them and there is nothing we can do about it. Once installed, you have to use some type of driver cleaner to remove them.
The simplest way to diagnose something like this is to start from scratch. A fresh OS installation, with no other software installed at all, using the games default installation configuration. If the problem still exists, then it is most likely Internet related. Run PinPlotter and see if the location of the problem can be found.
-
Skuzzy,
I did a fresh install of vista last week and installed AH with nothing else other than the sound/video/NIC drivers and I still had the problem. I didn't even install updates. I did the same with XP Pro and it ran fine with no warping/lurching.
-
But USRanger is running XP, according to his DXDIAG.
Yes, with Vista, you can have all manner of warping as it is very easy to exhaust resources in Vista. And the drivers, particularly the NVidia drivers, are pretty unstable.
I managed to get my Vista box to run the game pretty well. Check the "Vista: Performance HInts and Tips" thread to see what I had to do though.
-
I followed the vista tips thread word for word with no improvement. What really stumped me is that my problem started all of a sudden even before the 2.10 patch was released. I didn't make any hardware changes/driver updates. Ranger's problem has been with him since the get-go. I was trying to figure out what our machines have in common.
-
my xp box just went flaky since patch 2.10 no idea was fine before the vari is all over now though will do the high speed warping and then freeze with a vox loop and lockup :huh

I coudlnt agree more.
Reminds me of the new mac commercial where the 2 guys are talking, The Fat one (PC Loaded with crapware from Dell most likely) and the streamlined one (MAC).
Any programs running in the background can cause adverse to "SEVERE" lag and warp issued when playing games.
As ROC stated run MSCONFIG and turn off all the crap programs running in the background when you start your computer and you'll most likely see a huge difference. If you need to know what to keep running and what not to then check out this site:
Pacs-Portal Startups List (http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php)
Just go to start, then run, then type in msconfig, when msconfig opens click on the tab at top labeled "STARTUP" and it will give you a list of programs that auto start when you boot up your computer. Go down the list and just write a list of what is checked and then close the list without unchecking anything. Go to the site and type in each item and it will tell you what it is. Then go back to msconfig start unchecking the items you dont need at startup. The only things you need are the ones that are required such as anti virus, and firewall programs and others that the startups list will tell you are needed to let your computer function normally. REMEMBER... LEAVE THE Anti Virus and Firewall items checked.
I would also download and run spybot search and destroy and adaware se personal (both free). Just do a google search for them. Spyware can cause issues with warping and such in games as well as causing extremely slow performance.
Hope this helps!

CPU usage while the game is running is 50%. I have about 28 processes running(I use FSAutostart to turn off the rest). I run Adaware daily. This problem is only when I run AH. I play Red Orchestra, Counterstrike, & IL-2 regularly also & have absolutely no troubles whatsoever. Is there a way to check my net status from the clipboard, or do I need to CNTRL-ALT-DEL from desktop to see it? I did that and net status was almost a flatline. Network Utilization stays between 0-.5% while AH is running. My normal CPU Usage is 0-2%, but during AH, it's 50% Normal?
-
turn ur vsync on,ur moniter cant keep up withg frame rates so its tearing and making eberything look slow
-
Vsync is on, but I'm still getting 50+ fps past my refresh rate at times.
-
Again, is 50% CPU usage normal while running AHII?
-
Anyone?:(
-
My CPU usage with AH running is 100%. Dual cores may be different-mine is an AMD 3200+. I run XP sp2 on an HP. No grafics/vidio tools or controler support(X45 does fine without it).
I have 16 processes when I view task maneger while game is up on-line:
PackethSvs.exe-needed to run my dielup(not sure why)
taskmgr.exe-needed to view list and will be off when in game
explorer.exe
wwm.exe-my $10 connection
Svchost.exe-4 of these and are critical- I killed them 1 at a time once
aceshigh.exe-vary neccisary and at 99% CPU usage
lsass.exe
Services.exe
Winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
smss.exe
System
Ststem Idle Proccess
Only 2 programs. My connection and AH2.
FsAutostart would be used if I did other things with this PC, but I don't. So it stays in this config at all times. Before I got a multi-media PC I used FsAutostart to stop and restart everything but what I need to run the game. HPs are loaded with crap for every possible printer/scanner/camera/moniter/and on and on.
-
if you want to stop thing from loading up at start up use Hijackthis (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php)
Yes there are 4 Svchost.exe, but if you see Scvhost.exe this is a very noctorious virus/spyware
But for AH to run at 100% is very unusual, i have a AMD 3300+ and it usually never goes above 35% (althou this is with AH minimised)
as for USranger, i am clueless about your situation, i never thought that something like that could happen, and keep happening
last time i seen a dual core (laptop) using 50% constantly it crashed and burned :-\
-
If you think that is strange.
I had something runin' in the background that made my fps drop to 5-1
All of a sudden my plane would go into warp mode, like the games internal clock had been jacked up.
I could take off be into the air and at 15k in under 3-4 seconds.
Odd thing is EVERYONE else flew correctly,no one else was warp speeding like i was.
Funky, fun..but no thanks.
-
From Skuzzy's "Hints and Tips" sticky:
Lastly, the number of and type of background processes is a contributing factor to poor performance. Open the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), select the "Processes" tab. In the lower left corner is the total number. It should be around 19 to 21 for a reasonably clean Windows XP/2000 system. A fairly clean Vista system will have around 35 processes.
Right next to the total count is the CPU usage percentage. It should be bouncing like a heartbeat between 0 and 1 (maybe 2 on occasion) percent. If there is any deviation to this, then something is amiss. You can also start the game, minimize it, then check the game's CPU usage. It should be at 99 to 100%. Anything less, then something is amiss.
But I don't know if this is correct with duel cores.
-
game's CPU usage. It should be at 99 to 100%. Anything less, then something is amiss.
I ver much doubt it, i have a 3300+ 2.2 Ghz and when i Alt Ctrl Del, AH usually never goes above 50% (even when there are things happening)
-
If you look back I had alot of problems with this type of warping specific to AH. Mine was do to a driver conflict. It was some type of "memory manager" driver that somehow conflicted with the game over the internet. Gave me a EKG like graph.
If I were you I'd "Fbomb" the drive and start over. Load a clean copy of XP and just the 84.66 drivers. Not a single other thing. Then load hijack this and get a default list...exclude them all so you have a blank screen.
Then load AH....
Your other option is reviewing your dll list. You have something loading that is creating a conflict with your video drivers....only other option is you have bad memory or a bad PS thats spiking V to your memory...
-
that's what worked for me as well humble.
-
If you have not found a solution yet; if you have "Cool n Quiet" enabled...
TURN IT OFF.
When I have CnQ turned on in Aces High, it goes laggy to the extreme. Watch the network monitor, the variance oscillates between the ceiling and the floor.
I have a dual core processor; with CnQ turned on my game only runs with the MS p-state patch installed (with the additional AMD cpu patch). When I turn off CnQ things work properly.
After the latest patch, however, the games goes into the "spinning" clipboard state every so often. My solution to that is to set affinity to cpu1.
One of these days I am going to right a launcher for AH that sets affinity automatically.
-MrD
-
Where would I find this Cool n Quiet to see if it's on or off?
-
It's in the BIOS. Mine is enabled too, gonna check that when I get home.
-
you can also turn it off in windows be making sure the power state is not in "minimal power". Set it to Home/Desktop.
You can make sure CnQ is turned off by downloading the AMD CpuClock applet. It shows the current CPU clock.
-MrD
-
Ranger, I just bought the same computer, and im having the exact same issue... lol, I even used the same metaphore to describe it! lol.
-
Thx MrDick, I checked and it was set on Energy Star, whatever that is. I switched it to Home/office Desktop. I'm gonna download the applet just in case.
Aww Serenity, didn't ya learn from ol' Rainja not to buy this piece o' crap? I must admit, it is nice to know someone w/ the same pc is having the same troubles. By that I mean at least I know it's not my specific pc. I wonder what about the AMD 64X2 5000+ is not compatible with AH. What is different about it from other AMD dual cores? Hmm. I hate this thing!
-
Let me know if turning it off helps. I know it did in my config (AMD X2 4600).
Also note that this only started to occur in XP, windows 2k was not affected. I suspect though that there are Win32 API differences between XP and Win2k that make the timer issue stand-out.
BTW, you have a decent processor, the issue is an incompatibility between the OS and the game with pcs using dual core processors.

Up until I bought this, I had NO computer, so I couldnt read the forums to know :(
And yeah, its great, as far as being lightyears ahead of what I used to play on, but the warping just makes fighting impossible :(

The thing that different is it 64 bit you should have known that 64 bit has ALOT of compatibility issues with 32 bit programs...
If your willing, partition your hard drive and install a 32 bit version of windows and try AH in a 32 bit enviornment instead of 64 bit...

Strange, I am running XP Pro 64bit with dual processors with a Quadro video card (good, but not for gaming) and have no warping issues and get 40+ FPS even in the worst furball.
-
Same OS and AMD dual core here Scca, but with a 8800GTX and no problems. My warping and lurching problems were with vista on the same machine setup with a dual boot. I suspected a driver. Now when I want to play AH, I just boot XP x64...that's the only thing installed.

But also there are (or were) problems with AH and dualcores, so a 64bit dualcore maybe presenting a new problem that have not been found, also AMD and intel may use different technology now that is causing problems...
who knows?

Dualcore vs. dual processors.. Maybe that's the difference.
I am running twin Intel Xeon processors in a Dell 670 work station.
-
I had the AMD dual core drivers, and the dual core optmizer installed before I found AH. After installing AH I had the spinning clipboard, lockup/crash prob.
I installed the windows KB896256 XP patch, didn't fix it. Even running in every different compatibility mode, nothing worked.
I uninstalled the xp patch [careful if you uninstall KB896256. it also uninstalls over half of your drivers for everything sound, usb ports, video and more. at least it did for me] and the dual core optimizer.
I then ran AH in '95 comp. mode and it works great except for the warpiness once in a while not very often though. But with everybody else having it too I'm hoping that will get better on it's own.
{sorry I meant to post this in other thread}

If the OS is 32bit (aka XP Pro / XP Home) the processor operates as a 32bit processor. There is no compatibility issue at a CPU word level.
The compatibility issue is around OS timers for dual core processors.
from KB896256
This hotfix also addresses the following issues on computers that have multiple processors that support processor performance states:
• A possible decrease in performance on single-threaded workloads when processor performance states are using demand-based switching.
• The synchronization of the processor Time Stamp Counter (TSC) registers across processors when you use the ACPI Power Management timer on multiprocessor systems.
• ACPI C-state promotion and demotion issues in the kernel power manager.

Look up more i alredy said that
You keep saying 64 bit processor....
You do understand that the statement 64bit processor *only* applies if the OS is 64bit?
All AMD64 processors have the same architecture single or dual core. Dual core processors are two cores on the same silicon joined by a hypertransport bridge.
but all AMD64 processors are 32/64 bit parts: 32bit operation on a 32bit OS, 64 bit operation on a 64bit OS.

One more piece to the mystery. Every time I am on a cv, I get this:

I have seen this before too, circa early 2.09.
I do not remember how it was corrected though. Try turning off hardware T&L in the video options.
I have a 7800GTX video card and I am using the 93.71 drivers. YMMV.
The only issue I have now is the occasional spinning clipboard.
Also the latest patch introduced a new bug where when I click vox the game locks up.

Ranger,
You get what? Do you go up in flames or are you referring to the cloud formations and unusual sea turbulence? If the latter, I believe that phenomenon is explained in the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" as yet another consequence of global warming.

Geez, 4 months to get a resolution! I'd have taken a big hammer to something by now. I'm happy for you. Of course, I'm happy for me too - I can stop watching this thread. :D
