Title: Control problems
Post by: Fate21 on January 16, 2007, 04:06:05 AM
Hello, everyone!

I just downloaded AH2 tonight and have been screwing with it for the last couple hours. I'm continually having problems controlling this game.

First, my setup: I'm using a Saitek X52. Currently I have loaded Eagler's profile (I saw a post that said it was pretty good?) until I learn how the game works. I also have a TrackIR4, but that's not important.

Now, I understand the effects of torque in-flight, but somehow I don't think a rotating prop is going to consistantly make my nose point up. It'll go all the way to the vertical if I don't stop it. It's done this in every plane I've flown so far (P51D, ME262, P38, Typhoon, SBD9).

This one could just be noobishness, but whenever I put on the rudder while turning the plane, I suddenly go into a uncontrollable roll that usually takes me all the way to the ground (I've managed two successful recoveries).

Also, if I happen to disable auto-takeoff, the plane will start trying to turn one way or the other. When I correct, it starts going that way. It absolutely refuses to go straight. :furious

There's nothing wrong with the stick. I've calibrated and calibrated in-game single axis and multi axis, but it still just doesn't feel right.

I'm coming from flying Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, so I do have some experience with flight sims, and I do know that in AH2 I'm dealing with a completely different animal, but it still doesn't seem right. Probably just more tweaking with the configs, I guess.... I'm not sure what to do, though.

Any help, tips, suggestions, etc. is greatly appreciated, thank you!:aok

Sounds like your stick might need calibrated,  try calibrating your controller in windows and then in the game and see if that helps

Well, when I launched the game again today everything seemed to working... okay.

I think most of the problem is just that I'm used to flying a simulated F16 with nice little fly-by-wire stuff that make it hard to stall. *sigh* I dunno.
I hate being a noob :( .

It might not be a hardware problem at all.  It almost sounds like a trim problem in game.  Most of the time, the auto-trim is automatic, but is it possible that you may have accidentally turned it off.  Relogging into the game would fix that, as when you got back, it would have been turned on again?

Just a thought.
