Post by: Loddar on January 18, 2007, 09:57:37 AM
Skuzzy please, can you tell me which nvidia driver is the best for the
Gforce 7600GT 256MB AGP series ?

Thank you.

I've got the PCIe version of the same. 7600 drivers are sometimes sketchy. I suggest 84.66. Mine came with those. I tried upgrading to 2 separate later versions but I ran into problems with fireball trails and gas/leak trails displaying improperly in AH. I suggest staying with 84.66 until somebody comes up with a better suggestion.

Using the 84.66 driver here as well, for the 7600 GT (PCIe).

Whatever driver you use of the 8x.xx series... dont "upgrade" to the 9x.xx versions... they create all sorts of havoc.

What Schatzi said.

The 9x.xx drivers have to be the worst drivers NVidia has ever released.  Please do not use them as the problems they cause are far reaching and wide spread.

Glad to see this post as I was about to review my drivers.  As a good friend says "Don't mess with it if it works fine".

Is 84.66 also working for the 7600GS (AGP)?

I'm on 91.31 now (which came with the hardware on CD). Tried 93.71 with catastrophic results. They obviously managed to even downgrade the quality within the 9x.xx line  :lol

I tried 2 other types of drivers recently, I'll share the results:

NGO drivers: Installed but force-rebooted every time windows loaded. Removed them and problem went away.

DHZeropoint: About 60% the framerates I get with 84.66, doesn't look as good, had some issues with FSAA, colors in-game are off (my squad highlight orange was more of a milky yellow) and some issues with the way things looked on my desktop and in photoshop. Did not like it. Went back to 84.66.

So far 84.66 is the king for Geforce 7600

I am looking through the nvidia archives for drivers.  I do not see 84.66 at all.  The latest of the 80 series in their archives is 84.63 and it is only for the 7800/7900 series.  Am I looking in the wrong place  (Nvidia drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html))?

I have a 6600-GT and it looks like 84.26 is the most recent driver available for my card.  Can someone verify?

Thanks

I don't know specifically about your 6600, as I've never had one, but check here for a good archive of Nvidia ForceWare drivers (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=10)

EDIT: Note 84.66 is not WHQL, not that this means anything. That might be why they're not on the official Nvidia site.

I just changed from the 84.2xxx driver to the 84.66 one with great results.

Evidently my previous driver was somewhat corrupted. Now I can use 4xAA and still get 60+ frame rate.

The importance of properly uninstalling and using a driver cleaner can't be overstated.

Title: Video/nVidia Drivers
Post by: fjaloma on January 25, 2007, 12:37:02 PM
Anyone have any input on the GeForce 5200 series graphics cards?  Thats what I have in my.... laptop.  I know... I know, I'll be getting a dedicated gaming system in a few weeks time. For now, however, would it be safe to assume that some of the driver tweaks I've read about below are "across the board" upgrades?  Due to the fact that they use similar if not the same chipsets for their video.

Question 2 regards building my gaming system. What seems to be the preferred video card / combination for desktops these days?  Opinions?

Thanks,

Disco

Hi guys

I recently got a 8800GTS 640mb.  It works ok the nvidia drivers that came with it are something like 9227 with the latest ones 9278 forgive me if the numbers are wrong but im at work and cant double check.

This morning after about 30 mins plus twice randomly AH froze went to white screen, no windows error report, basically froze the machine for a bit then me having to close AH from the outside.  With the latest drivers off their website the results were much worse the game crashing nearly straight away.

With all this talk of 9xxx nvidia drivers being crap do any of you know whether the old 8xxx drivers would work on such a new card as the GTS?

Obviously i'll find out myself tomorrow when I log some more hours to see if my fixes so far have done the trick.

Thanks in advance

Bruv

Disco, for the 5XXX series gforce cards the 61.77 drivers seem to work the best.

cheers,
