Title: Spy vs. Counterspy
Post by: Halo on January 18, 2007, 12:16:44 PM
Like the Mad comic strip, all computer users face the spy vs. counterspy dilemma.  For example, some parents want to know what their kids are doing on the computer; some kids don't want their parents to know.

I've already heard of several parents whose snooping on their kids' computer use wound up finding spouses in internet adventures.  Sometimes that wound up in counseling, sometimes in divorce.

As the Chinese proverb says, Be Careful What You Wish For.

Naturally the best defense is to lead a perfect life  But if you're inclined to any politically incorrect explorations or just plain don't want anyone snooping on you, what sort of countermeasures do you take to preserve your privacy?

1984 seems alive and well in 2007.  Nowadays it's safe to assume that in general no one has any privacy.  Somebody somewhere knows what we are doing all the time IF we're worth the time and expense of the effort.

But for most people who are into criminal activity, there still is the question of how to preserve privacy from casual snoops.  Are the home spy programs so effective they they negate purging of temporary internet files, cookies, and history?  Are keyboard recorders so buried that virus, spyware and malware programs can't detect them?

If you're spying on someone else, what programs do you recommend?

If you're trying not to be spied on, what programs do you recommend?

Power company. It provides the computer with power, then I hit the ON button and start there.

If you're trying not to be spied on, what programs do you recommend?
Off button. See above.

I made sure none of my kids computers were connected to the Internet.

I just bought my kids porn DVDs so I know they don't have to go to the internet for it.  This way I know what they're watching.

JK, I don't have kids. (don't worry!)

I'm practicing really hard though...

The trick is to practice with someone else.

The safest bet is to make the tools you will use, yourself.
