After much frustration and experimenting I've found that Microsoft Flight Simulator X does something to nvidia video drivers.
I've been/trying to use stereoscopic mode 3D with my 7600GT. What I've found is that when I install FS X it causes the system to reset when in a g ame tries to use stereo. Reinstalling video drivers doesn't help, you must install a different version of driver (for me it was 91.31 to 91.41) to fix the problem.
I have no idea of what other consequences this has outside of the stereo stuff but it may be helpful if people are experiencing other wierdness after FS X installs.

i had FS X demo and it made my screen seem a ghosty white appearance:furious :furious
-
I wonder who the real culprit is though. Obviously a register change is being made by FS X, but is it a legitimate change which NVidia had mucked with and should not have?
The NVidia 9x.xx drivers are a pretty bad lot of drivers. Worst ones I have ever seen from NVidia.
Could explain a lot of issues I have seen with the 9x.xx driver family.

yes but im not sure if i have nvidia drivers on my cheap ATI radeon express 200

OMG .... thats it off to the pc monastery for me ........

if you have problems try the Omega drivers, works with Nvidia and ATI and really can help Performance or Quality whichever you choose on setup. It also allows you to Tweak your Graphics Cards. Personally i prefer these over any Nvidia Drivers.
Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net)

Hrm... I'm going to try those Omegas out for my 7600GT. So hard to find good drivers for the 7600GT.
-
BAH! Those omega drivers haven't been updated since April of 2005. The highest they go up to is 6800. The website says "last updated 1/14/2007" but the drivers are old as hell.
EDIT: The ATI Catalyst are up to date, but they stopped supporting nVidia a LOOOONG time ago.

Yup.
But luckily another group took up the torch for optimized nVidia drivers
Links to them are in the forums at http://www.driverheaven.net

Kev, I'm looking through the forums and I found something called "NGO" nVidia optimized drivers. Does that sound about right?
Thanks for the tip, by the way.

ATI and nVidia are the two competing companies. You can't have nVidia drivers installed with an ATI card and have it work. It's like dropping a Chevy motor in with a stock Ford transmission.
-
Those NGO drivers are a no-go.
They install, and windows loads, but 1.2 seconds after I see my desktop my PC either hangs (monitor shuts off into power-save mode) or it instantly reboots with a chirp. So I'm back to 84.66 for now.

What's the best driver cleaner out there? Since I've been trying a couple recently, my FSAA stopped working, even though I reinstalled 84.66. I think I've got some leftover bits in there somewhere.

Which version do you suggest for AH2?
-
I'm using nVidia 93.81 on my 7800GS without any probs.
Before I change versions I always take a look at the driverheaven forums to see what the general feeling about the new ones are.
-
Not just AH2 SunKing. The 9x.xx drivers for the 7000 series, and older cards are having troubles with many applications.
The 8x.xx family seems to be pretty stable. At least there are no serious memory leaks with them.
EDIT, Kev, aren't you running Windows 2000? Try running them on XP.
-
I use 91.31 without any problems for a while now on my 7600gt On AH2 and FX running XPmc
-
You are having problems, whether you know it or not. It cannot be helped.

but then is it really a "problem" ? ;) :lol

Well my drivers went to crap today when i had to take out my mb battery i couldnt even get into the new cp, so i switched to 84.66 ill try them out and see how they do, as of now im glad that nvida stuff dont load at startup :aok
Has anyone tried NGO NVIDIA Optimized Driver v2.9792 ??
later I will switch back to 91.31 and c if there a diff
anything in pertickular i should look for ?
-
The latest NGO drivers don't work for me. They install, and I restart the computer, and after a split second of showing my my desktop (with moving mouse, if I'm fast enough) it hangs or force-reboots. I've got a PCIe 7600GTS.
I'm trying DHZeropoints at the moment. The jury's still out. They *work*... but I think I'm getting less FPS than I used to, I've got an odd FSAA bug with screenshots, and some colors are off (the squad highlight is faint), as well as some things looking a little different.
I might go back to 84.66 in a bit, but I'm still testing them.
