The IL2 was a highly manuverable, difficult to shoot down, dogfighter?

Any fighter will eat an IL2 for lunch.  it just depends on who is flying the fighter.

I'm not so sure - last month I took out a Spixteen in a bomb-laden IL2 - the 6-100kg package.  It was a true dogfight - I didn't want to drop the ord until I had to, since we had plenty of PZs rolling in.  I got the Spit on a high-deflection crossing shot, but I wouldn't call it a "luck" shot.  I'm sure it might've had something to do with the Spitty pilot's skill, but I was surprised at how nimble the IL2 still managed to be, even loaded with ord.

I like it.

I agree. The Il-2s I flew when I was a russian pilot weren't nearly this good.

one thing people seem to forget is the Il2 is a flying TANK... its SUPPOSE to take punishment from AAA fire.... fighter fire is (normally) much lower calibre.

most planes can do "fighter like moves".... However true fighters wont loose all E after 1 turn.

Il2 isn't over-modeled at all. (i would say anyway)

TANK.   If the Soviets had THESE IL-2's, WWII would have been over sooner in the ETO.

This is the point we need to look at here. The Il-2 will do amazing things when it has a little speed under it's belt. Otherwise it really is a flying rock. Energy management is key.

I heard patches on your jacket helps.

Having skill would help more. ;) The Il-2's a great bird after you use it for a week or two. It can't keep up with most fighters in the MA gangbang environment, but 1v1 it can put up a pretty good squabble. The bombs are of decent size and the rockets are wonders if you can hit anything with them. The guns can kill a Panzer and track a Tiger as well.

But patches never hurt. (http://www.electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/patches/patches.html)

Guess it depends on your definition of "dogfighter."

Its extremely slow, so much so that you can usually fly it with full flaps, and therefore turn on a dime to HO the faster aircraft as they come at you.

If that is your definition of a good dogfighter, then yes, it's the best.

the IL2 needs a calander for speedometer. But chaingun seems to get 600-700 kills a month in it , if he wants to. The thing must do something well, allthough i cant seem to find out what!, other than they take most of the punishment i deal to them, and fly away.

The plane is a slug.   That said, it turns VERY well at low speed with proper flap use.   Having killed (and been killed by) the very best in them, I find that if I can't kill them cleanly in one pass, I put power to minimum and hang on their six until they are dead.

You get one chance at that.

The favorite maneuver I see is letting you get past them and the IL2 pulls up into your six.  Nicely done.

Bottom line, if you get shot down by one, you got slow in front of it.  Your fault.

fighters eat them alive....  in real life, if the Il2 turned around on its attacker, the attacker would pull off attack and one of his wingmen will probably have a better angle.

its only the impaitent ones in here trying to get kills as soon as possible just incase someone else taggs him first that die....

The mentality of the guys mindlessly diving on il2's are whats giving a FEW guys good kills in il2's. If you havent the patience or intelligence to defeat an il2 in "purpose designed" fighter, my only suggestion would be > spend your money and time on scratch tickets < or maybe checkers. There's nothing more enjoyable than landing 5 plus il2 kills per sortie in my uber 190 a8. Yup vulching :rofl
