Ever since 1.01 I have had problems getting into the main arena. I can get into the TA and SEA any time, but during the day when i select the MA my computer freezes up for about 30 seconds and then it takes me back to the user name and password menu.
I have e-mailed AH and have done a traceroute:
Node 216.91.192.19 was found in 14 hops (TTL=243). It is a HTTP server running apache/1.3.9(unix) mod.ssl12.4.2 open ssl10.9.4)
I have a 56k modem and Sprint Canada is my ISP.
Also tried the option of joystick conflict by selecting poll with interupts but that didn't seem to change anyhting.
Any thoughts?

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this Skernsk. I believe this is related to the 'Screw Canada' filter which is installed right at the border. However, since that freezes up frequently the problem may be related to the following . . .
It is a good possibility that your local telco's bandwidth has been reduced to nothing due to those friggin "eh's" at the end of every sentence. A billion of those little blurbs a day can really bog the system down, eh?! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
SOB
-
Thanks SOB --- but I checked and it turns out that Sprint Canada is really still owned by the imperialistic Americans! It seems that they know I'm a toejam hot AH pilot and you Americans can't handle being second best......so the bastards are trying to keep me from playing. So screw Y'all (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
I wish I had an answer for you. My squad leader has been having a problem with getting discoed recently several times a night. He lives in Alberta. Perhaps someone has restricted you from flying skernsk because you would unbalance the arena? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Have you tried the alternate route? Just click the item below main arena that says "Main Alt route verio." It says it is closed, but it isn't.

Wow, thought it was just me. Havent found a solution yet but Its not isp related "I dont think" because I can get on with my brothers computer during these "locked out" times, with the same isp. SEA and TA arenas let me in anytime.
Sure is annoying.
Although after reading your post again its interesting that we both use sprint Canada as isp's. Bloom, whats your squad leader using for an isp?

Makes ya wonder ---- all Canucks. Maybe that Fat drunk Bastard SOB is right.....there's a conspiracy brewing in Aces High (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I've tried the alternate route and it freezes up like the regular one. Strange how I can always get into the TA and SEA....that alone should rule out the ISP shouldn't it?
-
Dump AH and redownload it and see if that makes a difference,eh?
-
Been there ---- done that.
-
I'd tell you what ISP he uses, if he could play AH so I could ask him. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Like I tried that eh, and it didnt work eh. When that didnt work I even formatted and reinstalled everything with all the newest vidio and sound drivers...Like, that didnt help either eh.
Sry to hear that bloom. At least I can get in often enough to justify my $$$. Yesterday for example, couldnt get in early morning, but got in on 3 seperate occations in the afternoon and evening.
BTW this has happened since I downloaded AH way back in the beginning, only it got worse after 1.01
Rebooting sometimes helps...few days ago I got in for squad night after several reboots, I was determined to get in if it took me all night! Damn near did
-
Same for me rosco......reboot after each freeze-up and it still sometimes doesn't work.
I'd like to get Skuzzy's opinion --- he's probably got a solution (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
What stick do you use rosco? I have a Logitech wingman extreme.....I was told by hitech(I called long distance (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)) that it sounded like there was a problem there.
I too have downloaded the latest drivers.
-
I use a Microsoft precision pro.
I posted this a while back, still no solution though. Guess Ill have to live with it till I can affoard another computer.

Rosco you and I have an identical problem...what did pyro tell you to do? on a side note it sure is a relief to hear the computer reading the disk after an hour of rebooting (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) I think we should start a support group for this!
Rosco I'm from the Edmonton area are you close to me ---- maybe its a regional thing??????

My squad CO is from Edmonton. Wolf37 is his call sign. If you see him online ask him what ISP he has.

Basicly so far, It was sudguested I update ALL of my drivers, so I did. I am near Ottawa Ontario, so I dont think its regional, unless you concider so far its just us Canadians as a regional thing (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Support group, hell why dont we pester them to switch the main with the SE or TA arenas (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) seeing as most of my flying is in the main.
And it is definatly nice to hear that disk read after a whole bunch of reboots. I know if I am going to get in or not before I actually do (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
I like the idea of changing the arenas ---- I use the TA and MA so far I hae not flown in the MA.
I will chat with wolf37 -- I talked to him before -- nice guy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
Hmmm still no response from HTCreations?????
3 reboots to get in tonight.

We're trying to figure this out and all I know so far is that the problem seems isolated to Sprint Canada. The kicker is that Rosco is able to connect via his brother's machine with the same ISP, so the problem seems to be a combination of factors.
The difference between the main arena and the other arenas that is most likely causing this is the amount of information that is being sent. When you first come into the arena, you have to be updated with a bunch of information and the more players logged in, the more information that is sent. It appears that this extra information is somehow choking the connection and causing the failure.
Have either of you been able to find a correlation between how busy the server is and your success at logging in?

I have had this happen with 40 people or 90+...cant remember how many were in at the time of the libya senerio, but it didnt do it then. That would be the biggest load on any of the other arenas when I have used them. I cant say I really payed much attention to that, but I will from now on. Ill start keeping a record.
I know in the mornings my time "EST" there is usually around 20 to 40 people. IN evenings its 60+ and it doesnt seem to happen more often one way or the other.
Maby its time to yet again switch isp's...
-
Lately there are at least 80 people online so its hard to say. I find that from about 4:00pmMTN time till midnight -- no problem. But in the morning it almost never works. Rosco if you get disco'd after midnight do you have a hard time getting back in? I usually can't get back to the MA if I get disco'ed after midnight (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/mad.gif)
Thanks for the response Pyro -- and keep us informed (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Sorry for taking so long. I only casually check this particular forum.
Please post traceroute information, to both the main (216.91.192.15) and alt arenas (206.149.40.141) to the Internet forum. I will be happy to look at that and see if anything glaring sticks out.

Rosco,
I had my mother board go this week...I ended up getting a new computer, but kept Sprint Canada as the ISP....SAME PROBLEM...CAN'T CONNECT!
So I got pissed and changed ISP's...no problems ever since!! I now know what it feels like to login whenever I want to (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)!
-
Glad to hear it (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Im probably going to do the same thing eventually. Just havent had time to shop around for another one yet. I am in luck in one way in that although I live in the boon docks I can call Ottawa not long distance, so I have a pile of isp's to choose from.
BTW skuzzy Ill definatly post those trace results. I havent had this problem since your post, and figure there is no point in posting traceroutes when I CAN get in the arena. Sprint network was screwy for about 30 hours, not allowing me to dial out most times i tried the last couple days. Called support and got a recording saying the ottawa area was having problems, so maby whatever they did will fix things for me.

Wow, I have not seen this many problems in so many hops before.
Sprint is getting worse and worse. I really do not know what is going on with those folks, but they have quickly become one of the worst backbone providers on the Internet.
They have never been very good, with sporadic problems from time to time, but it appears they have found new ways to become very inconsistent and very poor at delivering data.
I really do not know what to say about this, other than, if you have another choice for ISP's, you may want to look into it.
