Title: Can't get AH to detect graphics card
Post by: jgro on March 15, 2000, 10:56:00 AM
I downloaded AH and loaded it but I can't get AH to detect my graphics card.  I'm running Windows 98 on a AMD 450 K62 with 64 megs of RAM, 16 MB Diamond Monster Fusion PCI Graphics card and DirectX 7a.  Anyone got any ideas?

Updating your video drivers should fix that problem.

I already have the latest video drivers.

Hmm, that should be the cause of that problem.  Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, you're saying that your Voodoo card is not getting listed as a choice in your video setup?

Yes.  All that gets listed is Primary Display Card or something like that.  My Monster Fusion card does not show up as a option.

fyi: Everyone's display driver  is listed  as Primary Display Driver I believe, mine is, and I know of 4 others too.  Question is, does the game run for you?

I'm not getting any 3D grapics that I see in the screen shots.  It looks to be running in 2D.

What res are you using?  If I run 640X res, it looks 2D, if I run 800X600 or better, not only will the FR increase, but it looks marvalous.

Can you do a screen shot (Alt-S) and post it here?

The Voodoo should show up as a choice in your menu.  Are you able to access the Voodoo properties in Windows?

I have that same problem JGRO. I only see one option and that is the primary display driver. I also have an AMD-K6. Im getting about 15fps at the best. Just for comparison, what kind of FPS are you getting??

I have the same card (Vodoo3) and the same problem, but I think it works fine.
Have a Athlon and run in the 1024 X whatever and I've never seen less that 50 fps.

----To the top----

I have the same problem.
AMD K6-2 400MHz
Voodoo 3 2000 AGP
Drivers version: 4.12.01.1219
But AH won't recognize it as a 3D accelerator.
Please help.

Ok, I've fighured it out...duh!
Although it doesn't say in the dialog box, the game runs in 3D accelerated mode.
Got a bit confused at first.
BTW, I get framerates from about 15-35 fps in 10x7 = Playable.
Cheers,

My bad, only the piggy back Voodoos show up as an alternate choice.  For the Voodoo3, you need to select primary display driver.
