As many of you know, I have been flying for about a year now. I'm not really good compared to many of you, but feel that I can at least hold my own. I've learned a great deal from the folks who have been around awhile and owe you a debt of gratitude. I'm also pretty vocal at times, but by and large I'd say I'm pretty easy to get along with. Feel free to insert flames at this point if you disagree.
I'd like to bring up a situation here for discussion about people running their mouth. Twice in about 2 days I have had someone talk trash and name call about how I got pwned by them and that I was angry for being taught a lesson AND if I didn't believe it, they would gladly learn me something in the DA. Both times I stated very politely that I wasn't angry about anything. I was simply curious why they had made the choice they did to HO me when it was 3 vs 1. Or to not engage when in a co Alt, co E situation in comparable planes 1 vs 1 in the middle of nowhere, AND that I would be happy to go to the DA. In both instances neither of the 2 who said they would "learn me something" in the DA were actually willing to go once I said "OK, I'll meet you there." I would have had no problem getting schooled in the DA. It's the only thing that will make me any better.
I understand that this is a "WWII flight simulator" and that whoever flies away alive is the victor. Fine. But don't name call and flame me in 200 about going to the DA and then not back it up. I go to the DA whenever the opportunity arises. Storch punished me relentlessly in there just last night. I think out of 6 matches or so I only won once. But I learned some things. Now if people would only learn to back up the S they talk, we would all be better off.
<>
P.S. Storch, I would like a rematch =)

There's jerks in every MMOG. That's why squelch is your friend.

Funny thing about HOs....
71 Squadron had a squad op yesterday in Ki84s. I was in one. There was a point when a spitfire, to my perception, was whizzing past at an odd angle and I got an instant, single-ping, lucky-as hell hit sprite on his canopy as he flew past. After he passed me he went POOF and I got the kill. To me it wasn't even remotely a HO, as it felt I was at least 20 to 30 degrees off to the side and he caught a lucky round from my wing cannon that was closest to him.
Anyways, I went back and checked the film to get a screenshot of this, and ... well I'll be dipped! It was a total straight-on HO, and I didn't hit him once, but about 20 times all in the canopy. It wasn't really lucky that I hit him, but rather lucky he didn't hit me back.
So what I'm saying is in the heat of battle your might not think of a certain shot as a HO even if it is. It could be that the person in the 3-on-1 just didn't want to take a chance, and took any shot presented. Or it could be like the fight I had yesterday, where it really doesn't appear to be a full-on HO until you check the film viewer.
I don't get angry at hotards anymore. Just a little annoyed. Too many variables to hold them accountable for it (for the most part). I do, however, get angry when they HO to the point of ramming every time (they don't even bother flying, just kamikaze into the enemy, reup, repeat).

Growing a thick skin is part of the learning process in this community. The trash talk of many a inferior "ACE" can be irritating. One must try to ignore the little sqwakers and carry on. Now in Storches case, I really enjoy the way he can put a one liner together. I hate the way I can't shoot him down unless I catch him off guard. So far score is Storch-20000000 Kuhn-5.
Or some where in that vicinity. So porkfrog grow some leathery skin or it may just eat away at you and affect your skills. Those poop flingers probably get no satisfaction of no response. My response is to try and find them and shoot em down. And yeah the HOin gets old,but thier are counter measures for that. :aok :D

Everyone already knows Jolly sucks. :P
"whoever flies away alive is the victor." - Jolly
This is not true. This type of thinking is a misconception and is dangerous. If this type of thinking spreads, gameplay will suffer.
-
yeah, i've learned to just expect to get Hoed and try at all costs to avoid it. that wasn't what got me riled up. it was the "dood, you got pwnt learnt and skooled, and if you don't believe i can do it again, lets go to the DA." then when i said ok (not because i have anything to prove in a cartoon airplane, just that i would like to get better in said cartoon airplane), they just kept talking S but wouldn't in fact go to the DA.
why say it if you aren't going to do it?
-
Pork, I've played this game long enough to know there are just divisive players who readily get off on taunting or creating arguements just for the sake of arguing.. The anonymity of the internet allows for this tuff guy mentality. You have to just ignore it although you want to strangle them.
Frankly, by responding you just play into exactly what they want. You can't reason with or change their mind, nor can u ever 'win' any trash talk 200 arguments...they just go on and on endlessly. Going to the DA never solves anything either. Inexorably it extends into the arguement of 'you cheated on this condition or that'..blabla.
Some guys don't even get satisfaction on 200 and choose to pick fights on country channel. I guess where I draw the line is my squad, since it's mine, if I see that in players they're out.
Then, to top it off, when you read these posts it continues into here too. There are a couple of post guys who continually harangue eachother. Try putting up a post with any opinion and you'll catch it one way or another...sometimes mature dissagreement, others just nasty in your face stuff.
Anyway, good luck with it.

Anybody that talks, types, spells, or thinks like that is mentally deficient, and far FAR behind the learning curve for their age. Every time I see that I instantly lose all respect for said person and hold them in the lowest regards until they prove themselves anything better than refuse. They have my pity, but not my ears and not my anger. Hell if somebody actually said something clear like "Wow, I totally owned you there, man. Hell I'd own you again, and again, and again, in the DA right now", I've give them a moment's consideration and move on from there. It's not the message it's the way it's delivered. If they act like an AOL script-kiddie they get treated like one -- ignored.

i have yet to tune into 200, no need to listen to the other side.
-
Some aren't so close-minded. I've got friends on the other countries. It's nice to see them typing and say "hi" sometimes :)
200, at times, can get very annoying. When it does I turn it off. For the most part I leave it on. Mostly to taunt JoeDog, but still! That's worth it >:D
-
Don't take this the wrong way but.....you mention that you asked why they ho'ed? Why? That, to me, would be the start of the confrontation. Most everyone ho's from time to time. When I tune to 200 that seems to be all I hear...nice ho retard, lame kill, lucky shot, stop running sissy and my all time fav...let's DA lol
I wasn't there so I don't know how you broached the subject but if I get ho'ed I don't ask them why they did it....I already know :aok

My response to any AH God garbage is as fallowed..
200: Fx1 bla bla bla :P
200: Me, DA?
200: bla bla bla your a dweeb 16 bla bla
200: Me, Da in your ride?
200: bla bla %^%$
200: Me, Shut up our DA
200: #$*^!@&()(&&&)
200: .Squelch AH God
End of story
Then i just hunt them down and kill them a couple more times till they log..
Works every time..

btw Sir. Excellent fight with you yesterday! me in a LAGhay7 and you in the 4HOG. i knew whoever it was was good when you were forcing really hard angles and flying so damn good. at first it was just me against you and that Zeke. then another guy from my side joined into the mix and it got really interesting. You a damn good stick FX1.
hey, would you mind some DA against me in a ki84 with you in Spixteen? i could use a lesson or 2 against a good 16 pilot.

Bingo !!!
No need to ask anybody WHY they did something ... they did it ... they can't take it back ... get in your new plane and start all over again.
If I had to ask WHY someone did what they did every time in situations such as that ... I wouldn't have time to fly.
When someone pulls the smack talk on 200 towards you, your best response is ... LOL ... nothing more ... nothing less.

No problem i would love to da in 16 v 84. I was always wondering which would win with equal pilots.

well you see FX1, therein lies the problem. you said "with equal pilots". you must be mistaking me for someone else. i was just hoping to see how long i could survive in seconds vs. you in that spixteen of yours.

I've maybe tuned in Channel 200 four or five times in a year-and-a-half. Usually to get word to other side about someone I see very consistently and suspiciously warping (usually turns out to be someone with dial-up.... and my firing tracers seems to cause them to warp.... ....bleh!).
I've also had to squelch 2 or 3 who felt strongly enough to taunt me by PM, when they discovered I wasn't on 200 for them to bother to their satisfaction (luv'd the PT spawner I killed 3 times, he finally hits my engine, I rtb as glider, and he PM's me "you'd better run"....lol...).
Otherwise, why bother. If you like to posture against the enemy, then whatever floats yer canoe. Talk smack all you like. Not me.... the .s works whether I'm tuned in or not to 200. I've got enough to deal with on Help Channel at times to bother with what's on 200 anyways.
As to the HO's. I don't worry about that either. It happens. You have lots of noobs entering this game on 2 week trials, who aim straight for whatever they fixate on. They HO. They grab whatever they think is the fastest plane, with da most cannon, and bore straight in. Field defenders are quick to do it, as they can re-up immediately, while you've got to travel.... which slightly offsets the vulch I suppose.
I'll usually try to avoid a HO on a merge, when practical, but by the same token, I won't leave myself an easy kill to the other guy if he is barreling straight in, expecting me to dodge. Some pilots seem to expect and try to take advantage of this on the initial pass....you avoiding the head-on, they aimed straight for you...... then cry "HO!" if they don't come out ahead on that pass. Whatever.
HO's happen..... is it what I *try* to do? I fly Ki-84 more than anything.... definitely not a HO-fighter..... head-on's not good for health of rice paper planes, and not enough cannons to make it work well. But, it still happens. Are there times I try to? Yep...if I'm in my IL-2 chasing GV's, and enemy fighters try to take me, I do everything I can to keep my nose toward them.
They want to go head-to-head with an IL-2 (or a Mossie) I'll support it.
Same if I'm in a goon. Sometimes when I'm attacking enemy bombers too, try and take out the pilot.
Those that rail against HO's probably raising their blood pressure unnecessarily. It's not much different than the guy who is constantly hopping and jumping around in a FPS like Battlefield 2. Or the one that runs full tilt shooting everything he has through an enemy squad formation to disrupt it until they kill him. Not realistic at all, not showing any real skills, just a way of using the game's features or quirks, to their advantage.
-
By getting upset you only feed the problem. Your giving them exactly what they want. I've had a dweeb go as far as personal chatting me (for quite some time) trying to set me off. After a lot of laughs on my end, he finally gave up.
Smack is all part of the game. It can actually be pretty fun, and can encourage improvement...but if it really bothers you...squelch.
I don't really understand the point of the DA and proving ones machismo... To me, a pilot is as good as his squad. Teamwork brings home more kills than individual skill.
-
Jolly,
I had a great time and fully expected to get whipped because everyone knows (and most of all myself) I plainly suck at this game. I go to the DA with people I like and not at all with the ones I dislike. The DA teaches me nothing. being in the arena looking for the largest red to smallest green darbar teaches me everything. flying the worst turners and getting in turn fights teaches me everything.
Re: smack talk
if it weren't for the smack talk on twohunert I would have long ago quit this game. I can take all the verbage others toss my way and return it in spades. I love smack talk. I've been practicing it since I was a kid and doing it face to face when the results are often a fisticuff. on the intardnet smacktalk is sheer bliss, like eating apple pie n ice cream and not having to run 5k a night to work it off.
so keep on rocking me tardlings you only add fuel to my bright flames.
-
to me a HO looks like the notourious game 'chicken'.
if you come at a guy dead on 12 oclock, and sustain that position for 300m+ and pull your trigger, you have accomplished the HO.
this is just a general hteory,
most others things i consider to be an 'oppurtunist's shot'.
just my 0.02$

Wit is good, some have it and most don't. Now if those who have cast stones at me lately would have the courtesy to go to the DA and learn, that would be fun. But they won't, they'll continue to make me laugh. They are "all bark and no bite."
-
Never go head to head with a plane with better guns than you have. (whether you plan on firing or not) More often than not the guy with the better guns will take a ho shot, and why not his odds of killing you are better than you him.
Period.
Thats just dumb.
I have had angles that I thought were way off and had a guy take a great snapshot on the tail or canopy.
I will tell you if you go h to h with an la7 or hurri 2 or 190, you will probably get ho'd, and if you have no cannons to defend yourself, well you need to rethink your merge skill.s
-
I gave up trying to ask civil questions.....you get nothing but flack back from people. I asked a guy once what kind of shot i gave him and he took it all personal like. Even after explaining that I wasen't mad or anything I just wanted to know what kind of shot I presented when I did a particlaur move. Now on the other side of the coin, People like Bluekitty, creton always seem to be willing to offer advice when asked.

Some newb the other day was egging me on on 200 because i blasted him a couple times. Then i started my defencive mode and was engaging him and his hole squad "red dots everywhere" so i kept my alt advantage and didn't let any of them over 6k our beat them down after they engaged me over my head.
Well this kid think his name started with ice pm me over and over. Well after i killed his hole squad looked out my 3 oclock and their was a high jug did a steady climb to him and was going to merge co alt. He talked so much smack to me i was going to play with him and only use my 50's.
Guess what he Ho'ed me from 800 out, bam i am down. Then he had the nerve to say on 200 he pwned me.
My response to this was to squelch him then called two squaddies and capped his field.
Works great.
Lesson learned always think the other guy is going to ho.
Force is needed sometimes to punish people that dont give respect to others. I dont take watermelon from newbs only from my friends "squad mates" and some vets that i really do respect.

Ahh...the guided missile ho as I call it. It seems to always be a spixteen or la7. If your guns aren't your primay weapon, but rather the mass of your airplane...why don't they ho in a plane with enough mass to get the job done every time. A B-17! Fully laiden! Then you've got 3 guaranteed kills!

If there's anything worth saying beyond passing along a salute or just chatting with friends, IMO, it should be said over private coms. Posturizing and bloviating on 200 just shows the immaturity of those who insist on doing it.
Besides, the private coms are much more interesting to record and ponder whether to just squelch or alert HTC of the content.

Turn off 200, I do (should have listened to Angry in the first place regarding 200). People forget this is a cartoon plane game. They have to try and prove themselves in this cartoon plane game. If they are that disapointed with themselves they need to work on life. It's ok to get frustrated, but there is a difference.
I understand now why the guy that taught me how to fly my cartoon Aces High plane keeps clear of the main arenas.
-
The only reason I leave 200 on is to pass on a
to the guy that got me... other than that I could care less what somebody has to say to or about me.
Getting 'killed' or flying badly does not affect my finances, the fact that my wife is always glad to see me, my kids enjoy my presence, I have a decent job, and three dogs that jump all over me when I come home.
Who I am is not defined by this game. What I am is an example of how I behave in all public places and forums including in game and in forum. 'Keyboard courage' as I like to call it is somebody trying to make themselves feel better about their own validity by attempting to humiliate someone who can only retaliate in words across the internet. Considering I have a great deal of experience in dealing with this type of behavior I can guarantee that most of the smack talkers wouldn't have the guts to say the things they do on open channel to another players face. Therefore such behavior is generally laughable
People that type 'pwnd' and talk smack are immediately put into the 'you're an idiot and therefore are below my radar' category (I'll except a couple of people I 'know' because their smack talk at ME is amusing and they take as well as they give and when the convo turns serious they're willing to pass on a lesson or two).
Of course that's just my opinion
-

Pork, You know you're a veteran of this game when the whines and chest puffing become amusing, instead of annoying. The hard part is the decision when to start ignoring the particular whiner as opposed to poking at him playfully just enough to keep him foaming at the mouth. I look forward to these moments as the irrational offender is an easy target for
the most light hearted of banter.
I had an old timer challenge me to the DA just the other night, claiming I am "Over-rated".
A couple of nights later I had a long time player so rabid that he managed to get himself muted and I never went any farther than suggesting to him that he doesn't enjoy this game and should consider another game, along with anger management. The fireworks amused me immensely.
Learn to enjoy these times, they can be rare gems!

he's angry because I won't DA with him. my reason for not doing so is that I don't much like him. I kill him in the arena from time to time and he immediately goes off on DA rants. I find it amusing to pull his strings. he's like a marionette really. to me this more fun. I will go to the DA from time to time and as I'm interested in doing so. I usually lose in the DA but it is fun with certain players. skycrock just doesn't strike me as someone I'd have a beer with so no thanks skycrock but keep ankle humping it's funny to watch and read.

Yes, I have killed SkyRock once in the MA, albeit it did take me and two other friendlies over 6 minutes to get him, I still like thinking about it from time to time because it is the only way I can kill him! I am of the old school, where if you know someone will slap you around in the DA because you have a big mouth, you just say stuff like, "I don't like him, so I won't DA him". That way I can still keep face without anyone ever knowing how bad he would completely own me in all Luftwaffe planes! See, so as long as I don't DA him, I can follow him around in the MA and talk trash on 200 so people can think that I actually might be able to kill him in a 1 vs 1. So for now I will only DA people I think I can beat. Yes, I did DA Falcnwng and run from him until my plane ran out of fuel, but that was because I didn't feel good that day!
I am happy to see you coming along nicely with your therapy, Storch. Admitting one's lameness is the first step, sir! Congratulations on your progress!:aok
