Hello!
I currently try to find a very specific joystick... I know many people here will happily recommend CH products, but that's not quite the class I want to start with ;)
I'm basically searching for a joystick that has the following features:
- single block (throttle and stick not separated)
- usable without pedals
- 8-way coolie hat
- sufficient amount of buttons on the top (about 6-8)
- second coolie hat (4-way) would be cool (less buttons on the top needed then)
- sufficient amount of buttons on the base (about 4-6)
Does anybody know a joystick that comes close to this, older models included? I'd really appreciate your recommendations, as I was unable to find anything like this on the internet so far...
Thanks a lot for your replies in advance.

MS sidewinder Prec 2 USB sticks have twist rudder, 8 way hat, 4 buttons on top, 4 on base, & throttle, not sold any more. However, you can still find them on Ebay for 50$ or less.
Saitek makes a whole series of sticks of varying prices & configurations.
St290 is the cheapest, and they are decent sticks. Twist rudder, 8 way hat
and a few more buttons than the Sidewinders.

look for saitek Evo or aviator if you need dual throttle

mad catz panther dx is the only one thats close ...but it really needs peds added ,or you have to map the rudder to three of the buttons on the base ..(the bad news is they dont make it anymore) I think i'm the only one in the game that has one.(well 3 of them actually)
the other stick with lotsa buttons top and bottom is the wingman extreames but there a total pile of junk .

Thrustmaster (http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=18&PlatformID=5)
About the nearest I can remember seeing but not enough buttons I think.

Once again, thanks for your advice. I ultimately decided to buy a Speedlink Black Hawk (http://www.speedlink.de/prod.php?lang=en&sys_id=1&pb_id=1&prod_num=SL-6637). Speedlink's reputation may not be that great, but this joystick has a lot of buttons. I hope it will survive the next six months ;)

This post reminds me of the thread some time ago of the various home made joysticks people were assembling. One of my squaddies faked such an arrangement, duct taping his stick to his surf board, with a broom handle attachment, and all kinds of coat hanger extensions for the various buttons. Unfortunately, many didn't realize it was a joke and a stream of pictures ensued of various arrangements.
My favorite was the one where someone had rigged a set of switches he used with his toes to control inputs.
I hope we can see these again. I laughed until I cried. It was truly priceless.

Before my X-45 I used a thrustmaster top gun fox 2 pro. Loved it. It should work perfectly for you!
