erm i take it being a newbie ,thats there arnt any ground troops in this game? just a tactical ply in the game??
-
You got it.
Only paratroops dropped by C47 or troops by M3/LVT2 in the game. Just the 10 you need to get to the map room.
Otherwise if you bail out you become an individual with a pistol for all the use it is. - Only any good against the troops above if you happen to be around at the time!

No, they can do more than that. From a post I had in a different forum:
Fun with .45's:
Stand in the map room and kill loads of troops while also scoring proxie kills on awsome LW planes (I had 6 one night).
Kill the manned ack at any field.
Stand on an enemy runway in front of where the planes spawn placing a single shot into the engine area. High likelyhood of watching a smoker leave the runway and a possible kill if patient.
Stand on an enemy runway NEXT to where the planes spawn. Aim directly for the pilot's head giving him a pilot wound before he even gets rolling (this one is particularily fun). If he actually takes off a kill is almost guaranteed.
Why have a .45 in hand if you can't have some fun with it?

You have only so many rounds, can you get more ammo?

Mostly that is true but, one night I was standing in the maproom and took out 3 loads of troops with my .45. Thats 30 troops I killed. I think the normal .45 loadout is 10-12 rounds. This makes me think that as long as you kill a troop that bullet is replaced. If you miss it's gone.
That's the only explanation I could come up with as to how that happened unless it's a bug.

True .45's have 7...
I will however play with this if I get the chance...

The AH .45 has a 26 bullet clip and one round in the gun. Makes a total of 27 shots, AFAIK.

Just went TA and tested it. I was able to fire 22 shots.
-
CC. Thanks for clearing that up.
-
so how do ya get into the maproom then? ive not seen any figures wandering about on site
-
Thanks, That clears it up. I probably killed 22 of them, just enough to hold the town on 3 sets of dropped troops.
To get in the maproom you have to bail from an airplane and then walk/run there.

You will probably have to play a long time before you can actually witness such thing. If you are not very close to town its a pain to actually walk that distance, it happens not very often. Also note that if it is an enemy walking around the landscape is hard to spot due to the small size of a single "man"; he has, unlike ground vehicles or planes, no icon.

Are you sure there is no icon? I was "attacked" once and just before hitting him with my pintle gun I saw an icon...

Hmmm.. I am pretty sure enemy bailed pilots donīt have an icon.. but the more I think about it... ...
Friendly pilots however do always have an icon, thatīs for sure.

Well it just goes to show how little I know having been around a few years! It reinforces how useful a read of the forums can be from time to time.
LOL I'm going to bail and try some of the options! :aok :D

If memory serves me correctly, I think the icon was "P"..
-
Bailed pilots are listed as CHUTES with the very same Icon.
Half the time, you do not see the icon when they are on the ground though. (Much like any planes icon can "disappear" close to the ground).
-
You never see an enemy man's icon once he's on the ground. You do, however see friendly men's icons.
-
Roll inverted BaldEagl.... then you should see it :)

Scca thats the icon you get with Troops from a C47 / M3 / LVT2.

Just though I'd point out that the auto-acks have to be down at an enemy field before you run in there to have fun with your .45 or they'll get you every time but its good fun once they are.

In case you are asking about moving around after bailing, you may have to map the keys to do this as I don't think a bailed pilot has default movement keys.
Certainly I will have to map keys for this on my setup as my joystick simply aims the gun and I know no keys have been assigned to moving - yet.

Why would you want to run into an nme field? I would think hiding in the map room of a friendly field would serve you better if they dropped troops...
-
Scca,
BaldEagl said the field not the town(map room). You don't want to run onto an enemy airfield when the auto ack is up! In his earlypost the Map Room reference was at a freindly field, at least thats the way I read it.

SCCA, read the thread before you post. See my post above. Fun with .45's in this thread.
Blaggard, you're right... friendly maproom, enemy field.

I still don't think I'd see it. Now if I could only get those enemy guys trained to roll over...

I did read, but I am old and get confused sometimes...

At one point, there was even more fun to be had.
A few creative folks walked their downed pilot to the enemy airfield (acks were down) and STOOD right on the runway aircraft spawn point. When enemy planes spawned, they found themselves "colliding" with that "enemy object" and became instantly dead.
I understand that those pilots ran up incredible kill runs before the loophole was closed.

Not true, just depends on which .45 you're using.
For instance, this (http://sigarms.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=6&productid=94) .45 carries 8 +1 standard, with optional high cap magazines that can carry 10

R for run, W for walk. Joystick for direction. Always run.
I got stuck in a tree once. I need a knife to cut the shroud lines.
Also, unconfirmed, but I think you do have the P icon when you're running around from the enemy's perspective.
wrngway
(has walked to base to avoid capture)

I actually just found out the answer to this tonight, you don't have any kind of an icon when walking/running on the ground.
The field ack was going nuts, and I couldn't figure out why. Went to investigate, and sure enough someone had bailed out and was walking, no icon.
