any of you all seen this yet? thought it was a really cool!!
http://www.englishrussia.com/?p=299
it maybe has a 76mm gun..close to same as the t-34 we got in aces high..but i noticed they pulled out 116 shells out of it!! why does are t34 only carry 80?..and this was a capture tank..and i dont know if it had its full complement of rounds...but looks like are t34 is shy of about 35 or 40 rounds..lol
-
that is an amazing piece of history!
-
ya...stuck in that silt..its been perfectly presurved...i thought it was amazing to see it look so good coming out of that water....i had to post it on o club:)
i wonder if they really got the motor to start like it says...lol..that would even be more amazing.

Not so long ago they drove over an old Opel with a ww2 time captured T-34 in a local motoring show. (http://img.mtv3.fi/mn_kuvat/mtv3/ohjelmat/ajoneuvos/testikuvat/368598.jpg)

I hope they leave it as is. Finding a captured T-34 still in German Markings is amazing. It is living history, and if anything, should be restored as it is.
-
i agree bodhi..i hate to see history messed with no matter how bad it was.....i hope they restore it how it was found...it will loose alot of its meaning to have it changed into another plain russian t-34
-
Hell, there are thousands of T-34's in Russia. Last time we checked into it, I could have one delivered to Colorado in running condition, for 60k. I have never heard of a captured one in that type of condition. It is simply amazing.

I agree. The "captured" markings make it much more unique. Amazing how little external corrosion there is.
Oh, and that's definitely a T-34/76, not an 85.

That is a German T-34. As the war grew more and more desperate the Germans became very skilled in finding room for more shells in their tanks. The Russians however were regulated by strict doctrines.

Yup, but it has the late-war turret, not the early/mid-war we've got in AH.

Yeah, the 76mm gun mantlet looks weird with that late model cupula.
BTW, I hate to admit it, but I never paid much attention to the "Immigrant Song" lyrics before I saw the V Kittens. (and I bought Zeppelin III when it first came out!) It's now my favorite LZ song. Cool avatar:aok

T-35/76 1943 version
The earlier one with the hatch folding forward is the 42 version. My son and I built matching T-34s one time and I did the 42 and he did the 43. It still has the rubber on the road wheels, where many of the later ones had just metal.
So I'd say it's a fairly new production 43 version that was captured by the Germans and put to use.

Bodhi has jogged my memory. I knew bookmarking this site would
come in handy:)
Tank Ride (http://www.tankride.com/History_of_our_T-34.html)
I guess with all those thousands of T-34s, the Russians were bound
to lose track of one or two :D

The picture I provided is one of a captured specimen. :)

They have discovered human bodies nearly perfectly preserved in Peat. It is an excellent preserving agent.
Very cool article, thanks for posting it.

That's quite a bold statement.

Yes it is if you can prove me wrong, I'll remove it. It is something I check often. The fact is you will not find one always open to the public for Rides, Driving. Most of the companies that do things similar to me are located in England and they use modern armor. If the day comes that I have to remove that statement. My new one will be "We are the ONLY place in the world that you can Drive or Ride a Combat Active WWII Tank and Shoot Machine Guns"
-
Is the Sherman still active with some armies?
The T-34 is still on the OoB of some African countries, is it not?
ps. saw this posted somewhere about 6 months to a year ago.
-
Wasn't it in CZ a few months ago where demonstrators fueled up a display t34 and drove it off of it's concrete stand?
-
While not really a public entity. Tamiya has been allowed to run a tiger, a king tiger, a pershing and a sherman so that they could record the sounds for their rc models.
-
Sweet little find there. Thanks for posting it.

I'm not going to try to prove you wrong, but I used to work in place which offered rides and adventures in many different types of warmachines. T-34 was one of them, but i'm not sure if that example had seen combat. It was my first job, I used to play with the turret on lunch breaks:), and also got to ride the beast. Based on my experience I'd say the odds are that someone else is somewhere offering rides in a T-34 which has seen combat. Your statement can be true of course.

ya i checked those out before on the tamiya web site...downloaded there little clips...impressive tank modeling for sure...and im sure there very spendy...but when they fired they recoiled and muzzle flashed..tank sounds were killer..it showed the tanks they got there sounds from..allways been impressed with tamiya on the most part..even there regular battleship models are top notch:)
