That is Stereoscopic 3D. Just wondering because it looks so pretty and adds a whole new dimension to the game (pun intended). The new cockpits look especially pretty with gunsights right in your face so to speak.
-
i dont know what you mean?
u have a virtual headset that you use with AH?
do tell us more :)
-
Yeah one of these babies: http://www.3dvisor.com
I use it with AH, WW2OL, and FS X. AH and FS X support page sequential 3D on nvidia cards - each eye piece gets a slightly different image. I use all 3 with the headtracking too (a native driver rather than the crappy mouseview driver they supply).
Will post a full write up on it in a few days. But was curious if anyone else uses 3d, like with shutter glasses etc.

Gee...and they're only $1,500 a pop. Lemme run that one by Mrs. Max :rofl
-
Oh, so thats what you meant that night when you said you couldn't see the keyboard
-
I saw it for $687....much better but still a pretty darn big hit right in the wallet.
I was willing to shell out some money to try out TrackIR which was a bit of a risk because there were many who said they could never get used to it but $700? I think I'll wait until I have a chance to actually try one out myself in AH before I'd even consider a purchase. Of course, where they really need to go is VR. For instance, look down and change a radio frequency by actually using your hand. Now, that's going to be cool when they get to it.

I think that there is a forum rule that says
"If you have money, do not taunt those who don't" :aok

There's actually cheaper ways of doing it -
1)edimensional glasses
http://www.edimensional.com/
2) eyeforce glasses
http://www.vr21.com.au/3dglasses.html
plus a few others.
I used to have some wicked3d glasses I used, AH looked very '3d'.
You need to make sure that whatever you get that preferably it uses the nVidia 3d consumer drivers.

I would suggest getting a cheaper ($70-ish) set of glasses first and trying it, it's not everyones 'cup of tea'.

cc that kev thanks.
how do the glasses work, to save me researching if you would be so kind?
i always thought that 3D glasses only worked on speacial films that are colour coordinated and split into two overlaying images without the glasses to view through. so im assuming they are similar to the headset and have a live feed linked into dual displays.
edit: nvm i followed your link.
are they really any good?
-
The ones i had used polarised shutters, no longer use the red/green lenses.
Main prob with red/green was that it forced your eyes to diverge and caused eyestrain very quickly.
They actually worked remarkably well.
You could see the tracers 'reaching' out to the target.
The best effect was in any of the first person shooters, the gunsight would actually move backwards and forwards as you moved it across various objects on the screen.
Unfortuneatly mine broke some time ago and I just never got around to replacing them.
-
i am interested in trying this out and will post my thought if and when i do.
thanks for your replies.

^ thats what I was wondering about. I know the headsets going to be a rare beast, but theres lots of other 3D solutions and I was wondering if other people tried them.
Theres quite a few games that support 3D.

I had a pair once
they worked well for flying around but it made the gunsight 3d as well and made hitting anything that much harder
think they only work on crts also
-
I had a pair of 3D glasses but could only get them to work on 1 crappy racing game. I think my parents threw them away :(
-
I got some of those X-ray glasses once when I was a kid. You know the ones with swirles on the lenses? Didn't work.:cry

I nearly got a pair but decided to go with the Sea Monkeys instead.:D

It does look like an interesting product.
If you're going to get one, you might want to get it soon, though. The company is being de-listed from the stock exchange because it doesn't meet the capital/profit vs. time requirements. It's never made a profit and the CEO recently resigned. It appears that if it doesn't secure some government contracts soon, it may have difficulty raising more capital to sustain the operating losses.

Ahh thats interesting. They closed the community forum down recently too.
Seems VR products/companies always struggle to keep afloat. It wouldn't support me if they're gone soon.

To those of you who have tried 3D viewing glasses I was wondering if there is any sensation of flickering or is the view steady?
Thanks
