my daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter live in Carson City.  There are worse places you could be stuck ;)

go see Virgina City, thats good for a day trip,  Lake Taho is another good trip.  theres a Railroad museum I didnt have a chance to check out might be pretty good.  Also Mono Lake and Yosemite National Park are within a couple hours drive from Carson City.   And dont forget the Bunny Ranch :t

Not a bad time of year to be in that area if you like snow sports.  Mt Rose is real close, also South lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley are not to far.  Riding snowmobiles on the mountains around the lake is cool too.

If you’re going to work away from home you can’t do much better then Reno.
Snow ski on free work days and weekends, take in some of the shows at the casinos at night.

I was stuck in a motel in Bastrop Tx for two month in the middle of winter once. Couldn’t find a decent meal, and Austin was too far to drive. It had me longing for the jobsite in Victoria Tx and I never thought that would happen.

Easy, how long ago where you in Bastrop?  I live in Cedar Creek about 15 miles from Bastrop.  there are a couple of good places to eat and Austin is only about 24 miles and pretty easy to get around.  If you're ever in or near Bastrop again let me know, at least I can bring you to my house for something to eat

Thanks for the kind invite Airscrew.  Not planning any trips in your direction and it was 30 years ago.  I haven't been back since, but glad to hear things have improved.

Wow, 30 years ago?!  you're right Bastrop was just a greasy spot on the highway then.  30 years ago I lived in Elgin which is 20 miles north east of Bastrop (opposite of Cedar Creek)  back then nobody went to Bastrop, now its all citified, got a Super Walmart, a Chilies, Home Depot and coming soon a Super Target, an IHOP and a mall.

sometimes you dont realize how small the world is  ;)
Oh yea, I know Meyer's sausage... and the SouthSide Market, both have good sausage.  I still remember my grandfather taking us to Southside Market for lunch on Saturdays when we went into Elgin to pickup feed or parts for one of the tractors.  Couple of big links, beans, coleslaw, and a package of crackers.
