clouds are 3d or is that a texture?  Sun a texture too with some highlights or lighting effects?

Also, those corsairs are also your work?

kermit, i just used terragen to create the back ground and stuck two corsairs right out of AH on it :)

background is a 3D render from terragen and the hogs are from AH :)

yup i know. i had to flip the hog to make it fit in with the light from the picutre. it didn't look right the other way round ;)

it wasn't really a final piece either, just a test, i'm trying to learn how to do it right :) will probably end up redoing the pic with some more stuff going on

Ah, ok. Just wondered if that was one of the little boo-boos I always seem to make and not catch until I'm done (like miss-spelling a name on a noseart or forgetting to add a layer), so I figured I'd say something.

Looks great though, keep practicing, can't wait to see the next test. :aok

Now, how did you isolate the aircraft? Did you just take a long time cutting it out? Or is there a quicker trick?

did you use the skin viewer? and if so what version you using? the version I have seems to be outdated and loads my plane cache when I start AH after trying to use it.

Biggles,  how are you getting your images croped out? are you using the skin viewer to do them?

and what version skin viewer do you have?  I think I may have missed an update to it,  I 've been unable to find any recent news on  the skin viewer.......

i use the film viewer, you get GREAT quality and functionality with it.

just record in the game, then open the film, pause it when you want, adjust your views and settings, enter full screen view, make sure you move your mouse cursor out of the way, then printscreen and copy into an image editor ;)

it's great fun doing these actually, we should run a mini competition :)

Yes, but how do you then isolate the aircraft? slowly outlining and cutting? Or is there a trick?

you use some method of extraction in your editing software. in photoshop there are many ways to do it, the pencil tool, magic wand selection, etc.

alternatively you could use a reasonably sized eraser brush and go around, it doesn't take as long as you would think. have your background setup, then paste your screenie on top as another layer. erase through the screenie to show the background, but leave the plane of course ;)

it helps to have decent editing software. i managed to borrow an oldish version of photoshop from a friend, but there are a few free programs out there on the internet that do a good job :)

that is a background shot on a layer underneath.

i used a program called terragen (it's free and you can download it here (http://www.planetside.co.uk)) to create that backgroud shot. it's fairly easy to use and you can come up with some really pretty scenes

just experiment with it. play with the thing, see what each one does. within 30 mins you'll be a master ;) just practise making terrains, see which components have different effects.

my latest attempt, hope you like:

tried taking snapshots or screenprints out of a film, could not  get any good extractions like yours, so I went and found Skinviewer ver 2.083 on the skins download page of AH, it has a solid background color, this makes it so much easier just set that background color as transparent  in photoshop and wala, instant cutout....works perfect, and the skin viewer lets ya change the lighting effect around somewhat as well. Also can move flaps, lower gear, ruder movement, aileron, engine off wngine running.....sweet......

have fun whoever is taking this funstuff up.........( funsuff = making pictures )

Man it would be a crime if you stopped working on these...

The first two (corsairs and the P-51) looked nice, but "Home for Tea" and the P-38 Pic Well I honestly consider them to worthy or being called artwork... (and when I say artwork I mean the missus cant complain if I stuckem up on the wall)

So Keep it up mate...

The FM2 landing on the carrier would be cool, would not mind seeing a 152 in a pic also (two of my favorite planes)

mate

Can ya do something with this one Biggles?  Still trying to match this screenshot I took a year ago.  My favorite action shot.  Burning Zeke, two 38s, etc.

lol, sorry, hadn't seen this thread in a bit...

serenity, the mossies don't look to good, it wouldn't make a great shot, i've already tried ;)

latrobe, i'm using AH film viewer to capture images, then using photoshop to edit them...

and dan, that shot id great! i'd really love to do that shot! do you have the original film, it would allow me to keep more of the quality and get the angles right for a background if i manage to find a good one...

if not, i could make do without, but the final product would look much better if you still have the film...

rgr biggles. I cannot do them because, well, my settings are too crappy to make good pictures. (My aircraft from film viewer are too pixelated). Could you do me a HUGE favor, and make one with a No. 1 sqdn Hurricane I, a 257 sqdn Hurricane II, a Spitfire mk I (I use your home for tea as a backround already :) ) and a Spitfire mk V? (Not all in one picture, unless you had a good furball goin...) I would REALLY appreciate it!
