Title: Chili Sandwich
Post by: Mustaine on January 28, 2007, 02:39:28 PM
When you are poor you kind of make up stuff as you go... I have combined some quite unusual foods in the past, putting together what I have around the house.

I can't believe I haven't done this before.

thick hearty chili, on bread like a sloppy joe, with some raw onions in there too.

:O :aok :D

any weird things you've made?

My Dad used to love leftover cold Chop Suey in a hotdog bun.

Had to be a hotdog bun, though, because putting it on plain old bread was stupid.

Wrap a hotdog in a corn tortilla and deep fry it.

A poor man's Taquito.

Put a packet of taco seasoning and fried hamburger into a double batch of macaroni and cheese.

It spices up nice.

make a hot dog all the way, chili, onions, slaw, mustard, etc, but no hotdog instead use 3 or 4 slices crisp cooked bacon. yummmm good. at work, long time ago,  where I made this. drove the cafeteria lady crazy, trying to figure how to charge for it.

whatever that peanut butter candy was, in a sandwhich. my Father called it my candy sammich. lol we was on the road to a bear/hog hunting trip near Robbinsville, NC and I was hungry.
I made all kinds of weird stuff to eat, can't remember them all.

reefer has nothing to do with it.  :p

1 hot dog
1 Twinkie
1 can of eazy cheez

Slice Twinkie down the middle for use as the bun, slice raw hot dog into the Twinkie and top with cheez.  MMM MMM good!

I put chili in a bown on spagetti noodles, with some shredded cheese on top.

I put beef stew on bread as an open face sandwich.

Talk about refer induced taste. That stuff will make a 3 day old tuna sandwich taste like prime rib.

Anyway, once poured cold spagetti sauce on top of cold green beans from a can. I think it tasted OK.

Does anyone eat fried bologna sandwiches anymore?

Given your tolerance (at that time) for MRE's its kind of unfair to ask someone who has no tolerance for MRE's to try this recipe (for gastral disaster).

Ugh.

When I was a kid my folks divorced and we lived in a trailer. We never had treats in the house. Goldfish (the fish shaped bar snacks) were about it.

Miracle Whip sandwiches, and salad crutons as a potato chip substitute were common...and the candy substitute?....a beef bouillon cube to suck on.

   No joke.

Hmmm maybe thats why I have spent so much time going to the gastro dude doctor guy <-LOL I think the chow hall gave me the tolerance I had at the time but I still eat this stuff at home all the time(when wife isnt home to cook) And I have no problems eating it. Its not that bad on the tummy just looks bad on the screen. Give it a try and youll like it. If not I will up a hundred times on a runway and give ya perks in any aircraft.

Here ya go Dux

(Anyone remember the recipe for Homer's Moon Waffles?)

Moon Waffles
Homer's Patented Space-Age Out of This World Moon Waffles were created in this episode while Homer is at home.

Here is the classic recipe for Homer's Patented Space-Age Out of This World Moon Waffles:

You will need:

One (1) packet of caramels
Waffle batter
One (1) large bottle of Liquid Smoke
One (1) whole stick of butter
Instructions:

Pour complete packet of caramels, batter and liquid smoke into waffle iron. Close iron. (You may enjoy the "waffle runoff" that is squeezed out when you close the iron) When waffle is done, peel it off the waffle iron. Wrap waffle around full stick of butter. Insert toothpick (a clean one!) to secure waffle around butter and enjoy. Call your dog to lick it off if any falls on you during eating.

Roo's list of Trailertrash Foods (mine still had the wheels on it )

Tuna Mac n cheese , Doggie mac n cheese , chili mac n cheese, or anything else that you can toss in ....  Seasoning optional to what evers available.

Tuna mac n cheese also makes great next day salad when chilled with mayo n pickles / onions added ...  (note: canned Salmon makes a good sub too )

Ramen noodle adds for the poor ... pick any flavor add 1 sliced hard boiled egg and Pea's .  (Steal soysause from the china express )

Desperation breakfast ... oatmeal W/ canned fruit added .

then theres the pour what ever canned soup ya had over a spud (potato)

(Food banks are a great supply source when needed ) yes I went thru a trailertrash Divorce a long long time ago ... I  know how to eat like a king w/ no $$$

Omlette with onions, hot dogs, and cellary, cheese.

Cheesedogs - with mustard, ketchup, and macaroni salad on them.

Mac n cheese with corn and hot dogs.

Pasta with progresso new england clam chowder as sauce.

Tuna melt. 1 can tuna. 1 chopped small onion. 1 chopped cellary. cheese. 2 pieces of pita bread.

put the 1st piece of pita on tinfoil, then 2 pieces of cheese, then the tuna, then 2 more pieces of cheese, then the other pita on top.  put it in the over at 400* for about 1/2 hour.

I lived off those meals for about 2 years, with a steak once a month, when i was in the poorhouse.

LOL yeah, still watching, many of these I know / do already :D

tuna salad is a staple, along with salsa. I go to Sams club (Costco) when I can and get the 1/2 gallon of pace thick and chunky for $4.25 and that acts as my sandwich spread for a good few weeks. also it's $4.75 for 10 cans of tuna in spring water. I keep them in the fridge so they are cold and ready to eat ;)

I like the idea of corn to mac n cheese, and peas to ramen noodles. frozen peas and corn in a bag are real cheap, and good vegetables.

is you haven't tried it, with chicken ramen noodles add about a teaspoon of franks hot sauce and it tastes just like buffalo wings. :aok
