Title: I'm worried
Post by: hogenbor on January 29, 2007, 02:42:46 PM
It's winter, I play again. Only a few hours per month, don't have time for much more. Yesterday went well, knocked fourteen planes from the sky in minutes in my P-51D. Says more about their skill level than mine.

Anyway, last night I dreamt I was in a war. I stepped out of a building and there were warplanes overhead. People fled in terror. I looked up and saw groups of green dots engaging groups of red dots. You know, just like the radar screen in AH... it was WEIRD. I wonder what it must be like for those guys who play like 100 hours each month...

They end up dreaming so much that they create online flight sim companies.

This game has given me more SA on the road...most of the time.

However, I did not see the dot on the side of the road from 2K out which turned out to be a motorcycle cop who HO'd me with LIDAR, got on my 6 and made me land on the shoulder.

Going to cost me 180 perks, plus an unknown number of perks per month on insurance and the wife ack doesn't even know yet but she will not be happy

When I first started playing AW I was online so much that when some ppl would log on they would ask me if I lived there and if I ever logged off..that sorta thing.
It really was embarrassing and I knew I should log off...before it became an...addiction ...but I just..couldn't.
I even recall someone accusing me of not being human at all but part of the program. Some sort of airbot or AI drone or something that flew around for ppl to shoot. They figured it just wasn't possible to fly that much and still get shot down so often...or some such thing.

Thankfully, I am free now..
My doctors now allow me to lurk on the boards..as long as I don't do it to much.

In the mid 90's the sound card company I worked for encouraged the staff to play computer games so we could support our products better. I played AW almost every night of the week and then from friday night to sunday night with a few hours of sleep. My roomate worked for the same company so we setup a computer room with our monitors side by side to better support each other as wing men.

I used to spend all my sleep time dreaming AW to the point I was waking up worn out. At work if I closed my eyes I was back in the cocpit chasing icons. After 2 years of it I moved on to other things and reduced my flying time drasticly. It's not good for your love life if all you can talk about is computers, sound cards and AW.
