No matter what refresh I set my monitor to, it alway the same in the game .. I am wondering why that is. It doesn't happen in other games.
I set my refresh rate at 100KHz but in the game my monitor tells me it is set at
FH 79.98 KHz
FV 75.02 Hz

refresh is tied to resolution
are you using a higher res in the game than ur desktop is set too?

Eagler .. Yes, I know that, but I think their is a problem. I just talked to the ofc and sent an email .. here is a part of it.
I recently notice that I cant set my monitor refresh rate higher than 75 Hz in Aces High ... Regardless what my graphic card is set to. Anything higher, I get an error that say "out of range". I'm wonder why that is because I always goten my maximum frame rate with v-sync enabled using 100 Hz as my
refresh rate.
I have been experimenting with HzTool ... and according to my monitor specification I can go a lot higher than 100 Hz., so I was wondering if people had their refresh rates set higher in their graphic card and yet the game would only allow for FV 75 Hz, if this could be a cause of some of the problems people where having with dumps and locks ups.
Next time your playing AH, please check your monitor for your refresh rates ... not your graphic card setting. I bet it will be something like FV 75.03 Hz for a 1280 x 1024 and FV 85Hz 1024 x 768
I can play other games, including WB (OffLine) without a hit in my monitor refresh rates. I get my best performance using v-sync enabled with a refrsh rate of 100 Hz. Aces High only allows to me to play at 75 Hz at 1280 and 85 Hz at 1024. I just think it should be a little higher .. so thats why I'm asking the questions.

There are no bad questions... Just incomplete answers. :D

Ah, you've ran into the newer detonator bug with win2k. Bascially only 60Hz or 75Hz is allowed. The problem can be worked around by editing the registry and removing these refresh rates and adding the one you want.
I believe there is a utility to do this. You might try looking at www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com (http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com) . I'll try and find it and post the link here once I do.

Thanks Bloom25 ..I'll look forward to your posting.
The ques I have is this ... if your monitor is set to 100 Hz in 1024 but yet the game only supports 85 Hz ... doesn't this create some sort of a problem? Amd if you run your resolution at 1280 the game only support a refresh rate of 75Hz ..again wont this cause a conflict somewhere down the line such as lock ups or dumps if your card isn't match to the game monitor refresh rate?
I know people that tell me that there running 100+fps but thats not true fps of the monitor
just the frame rate of the card!
I am now using HzTool to set my resolution of my monitor to the resolution of the game, so they will match. So when I run at 1280 my card resolution is set to 75 Hz to match the game refresh rate. Boy I hope I explained my self so people will understand .. really would like to know the answer to my conundrum.
Is their a registry tweak that can be made in the game itself to change monitor refresh rates?

Before I go too far, I assumed you are running windows 2000. Are you? The bug I speak of only affects win2k and only happens with Detonator drivers in the 10 and 12 series.
Yes, AH most certainly has some file or registry entry that sets resolutions and refresh rates. You could probably edit it. ( I have heard of others doing this.) I'd e-mail HT and see if he can tell you what file to tinker with.
Absolutely you want the refresh rate in Windows to be the same as in the game. Often if they are different texture corruption and other problems will occur when alt-tabbing.
I personally have a GF2 GTS using the 12.41 drivers. I must have both AH and my Desktop at 75Hz otherwise problems do result when alt tabbing in and out of AH.

Ok, here that thing I was talking about earlier, but note that it's for win2k only.

It's about 1/2 way down the page.

Sprint I had same problem. Try install Powerstrip utility. There is some tool that shows you all known resolutions/refreshes from registry. I have found one that I use in AH and edited it like I want. There was only one 1024x768 entry with 60hz refresh marked as "LCD derived" or like that. So I deleted it and made new one for 1024x768 85Hz.

Hello, I'm using an old sun monitor that only runs at 75Hz. No matter what refresh my desktop was set at, when running AH it changed. I found it was due to Direct X. If you really want to change the refresh rate of direct x (although it's not necessary unless your monitor can't handle it, like mine for example). Goto Start->run and type DXdiag. In the last tab (troubleshooting I think) there is an override DX refresh box. If you type in the refresh rate here that you want, DX will use this value.

Wigsta ...Thanks for the reply. I use a ulility called HZTool that also allows me to do that. Its just that in AH the monitor refresh rate for 1024 is set to 85HMz and at 1280 its set 75Mhz ... no matter what my monitor can do. To check, while running AH, use your monitor buttons and check the refresh rate of your monitor. I'm just wondering if their is way to change does setting in the registry ... It would help in picking up some extra frame rates, I'll be curious to hear back from ya. Have a good day.

I'll have a look at the prog you've sugested, but i'd be very surprised if it alters both the windows and DX refresh rates together (as no other gfx cards software seems to do this, but I might be wrong!).
I can't tell the refresh rate by my monitor, only by the fact that I either see a picture or I see garbage, and when setting up the refresh rate correctly for windows, the games were still different (although opengl seemed to keep the windows refresh rate).
I'll try the prog and let you know.
