I am considering a new monitor. I am using a 42inch LCD with 1900x1080 res. I want more height. What resolutions would work , like 1600x 1200?

All depends on your video card. The game does not care.

You want more height?
You need a 3:4 ratio screen size. Anything with a higher ratio means you're just chopping off the top and bottom of the screen.
I think the next highest up from 1280x1024 is 1600x1280. I think the next one up from there 2200x1600. I'm guessing here, from memory, because I've never owned a monitor that supports either.

Running 1920x1200 ..... Still lose some of the bottom....... Don't care.... Game looks good....

I just switched from wide screen to a standard 3:4 LCD. The loss of vertical height using widescreen isn't too noticeable until go to the hangar and try to get in the 8' guns aft. Sometines this ship is at the bottom of your hanger view but the aft guns are off the screen. You have to do some tricky maneuvers using the view keys in order to select these gun positions.
Also, I found that inflight having the full vertical view using a 3:4 monitor is a real SA advantage.
Widescreen may look great but you are putting yourself at a disadvantage by not being able to see all that the game is capable of showing you.
