On Mark Styling's webpage there's a black B17G, labeled:
"B-17G-65-BO 43-37516 TONDALAYO of the 406th BS(H)/305th BG, Cheddington, February 1945"
You can find it here:

Is this accurate? Did it see combat? Was it a 1-off, or what?
I'd be curious to see this as a skin.

krusty i am sure there were black b17s but they were used for special ops.
ive got a book somewhere showing these and detailing there operations if i can find it.

So we're not talking just night bombing, we're talking dropping operatives across enemy lines and stuff? In that case I won't bother skinning it. Not in the spirit of traditional B17 skins, IMO.
-
I'd say do it.
Found this -

Note - difference in serial numbers
profile - 33-37516
recovery - 43-37516
Too close to be a co-incidence and probably points to perhaps the profile being wrong.
Also possible it had white fuselage codes, not yellow.
White triangle on tail with yellow serial numbers / markings.

Stylings gets some things wrong on other profiles, too. Probably the same plane.
I just don't know if I want to skin a plane that didn't really do any "bombing". heh heh, to me it's like doing an unarmed recon plane.
I'll think about it, though. If anybody else shows more interest than I am at the moment I say go for it. If not, it can wait a little bit.

i agree with kev
This would be a fitting tribute to the guys who died in her in what many would say was a easy job.
They did there part and it would be a nice tribute.
damn i must be getting too sentimental
