I live in a place that requires that your septic tank be pumped out every five years. Also, you have to provide proof that you have done this with the county.Does anybody out there live in a place that just suggests you get your system checked on a reqular basis?:cry

I have septic, I get it pumped every three years.
And in case you don't know, no powdered soaps at all in the house.
everything liquid soap.
Otherwise you endup with a concrete like substance in your tank.
and heads up for water snakes:noid

adams county wisconsin requires a more frequent pumping.
i am not sure what it is exactly because i no longer live there.

And there was me thinking this was a post about cockney slang :)

There are products you can use that break down the sludge in septic tanks so that you don't have to get them pumped. Its base is bacteria, which breaks down the sludge, and keeps the tank and septic lines moving. So I am told...I'm going on 5 years using this stuff and no problems with the septic tank...
4 years ago when I had it pumped...turned out the guy doing the pumping was a good friend from yesteryear, he said "dude, why are you paying my company $250 to pump your septic? Just go to Home Depot and use the bacterial stuff, you won't need it pumped again"
Hoping someone with more knowledge than I can confirm this.

Rip, I think you are talking about Rid-X. They recomend using it monthly, I use it about twice a year. I've lived with spetic tanks most of my life, only had them pumped twice. Those were because of busted lateral lines.
Another trick that works, sour milk. It contains a lot of the same bacteria. Also, most people around here have their washing machine drain running out in the backyard to keep from overloading the septic.

Yes, Rid-X is one of the products, there are many out there these days.

Rid-x works as does sour milk and even spoiled hamburger. The idea is to promote healthy bacteria growth in the tank to turn the solids into liquids. As long as your drain field doesn't fail you should never have to get pumped. I installed my system in 1993 and my tank has never been pumped. My washing machine drains right into my septic system.

In my area there is no forced pumping. It is a good idea to do it atleast every 2 yrs though. I do mine every year.

If your septic system works as designed you should not have to pump it at all. Maybe once every 20 years or so for the heck of it.

Yea, and yer not suppose to use any of the blue bowl cleaner or drain cleaner because it kills the poop eating bacteria.
