Definitely no.

If this was to be implemented... CV's would need some sort of auto 5-inch ack and a lot more auto 20mm ack.

Let me see you want to add Kamakazis to the game even though theres thousands that play this game and some of them are Japanese. American born, Canadian born, or born in Japan, allowing Kamakazi attacks would affend these people who are or have a Japanese background.

Its like allowing to add Swastikas to German planes when in Germany the Swastika is banned from everything but something historic. Yes AH is historic but its a game. If you added a Swastika it would affend some Germans and if you added Kamakazi planes or settings Japanese people would get affended. Thats why we have no Swastikas or Kamakazis.

yeah, P-38 ace Gerald Johnson (not the 56th FG guy, the SWPAC one) flew in combat with a live duck in his cockpit.
he had over 20 victories, but i guess this falls under the catoegory of unofficial field mod, like the 75" P-38 alisons

I don't think it's a matter of cultural sensitivity, Voo (I think the whole ban-the-swastika law is nothing but ludicrous over-reaction and historical white-washing).

"And if you look in your guidebooks, you vill learn of German's vunderful history!"

"Excuse me, why is there nothing for 1938 through 1945?"

"Nothing happened! No more questions!"

"You know, World War II? The invasion of Poland?"

"VE VERE INVITED!"

Yay Family Guy!

LMBO @ Family Guy quote!

I haven't seen that one but can picture it now!

Swastika is a matter of law in Germany. This is an international game.

The many MANY reasons of "Why NOT to includ kamikazes into this game" don't really include "because people of Japanese descent play the game".

That's a really shallow reason, IMO.

Just watched Saving Private Ryan this evening, and for some reason that quote popped in my head. :D

But yeah, we don't want kamikaze because pork-and-auger Buffs, Typhoons, Ponies, La-Las, etc etc etc are bad enough as it is. We don't need to see auger-TO-pork.

Of course, if they make kamikaze a perk option, for which you blow any and all perks you've acquired, for ALL missions (fighter, bomber and vehicle), on ONE sortie...

But no. Stupid, stupid idea that would just increase the general dweebery of the arenas.

Allow kamikazi's to cause damage... only if you are not allowed to up again until the object you destroyed is repaired.

I don't think Japanese people would be offended by the ability to drive your plane into something and cause damage.

It would just result in a lot of people flying formations of B24's into hangars, CV's, and anything else that they wanted to put out of action.

Post by: Stoney74 on February 04, 2007, 01:46:25 AM
Hmmm, kamikazes = people willing to die to do a perceived appreciable amount of damage.  Kind of like folks that de-ack a field until their plane comes apart, or dive bomb with strat bombers, people that don't break off the plane in front of them when someone saddles up behind them...Seems like we already have them in the game.  God put landing gear on airplanes for a reason.

And consisdering you only have 21 posts I'm going to take you as a new guy to AH, if not sorry. The only planes that have Swastikas on their planes is Finland. Finland used the Swasitika. Why not German planes? Germanys Swastika was tilted which changed the meaning. I forget but its something like that. But the two mean something else. Both ment the same during the war, but now the Tilted Swastika to alot of people in the world means, evil, death, murder, and Hitler. Really the Swastika was a symbol of peace, and good luck. Go to google and search for Swastika. If you wear it the way the Fins have it, it means Peace, and good luck and other stuff. Watch as people call you a nazi. They have no knowledge that it still means that, it just that Hitlers tilted Swastika means something else now days.

The reason why I said it would affend Japs is because a long long long time ago, like 4 years ago someone asked for Kamakazis. Someone posted that it would affend Japs and then 80% of the next post where people who said, "Oh yea I didn't think about that, it would." That was years ago and the new age of Americans are just dumb.
Title: enable kamakazis
Post by: Captain Virgil Hilts on February 04, 2007, 11:46:09 AM
I have a good solution for the problem. Go ahead and enable kamakazis. However, in order to use the kamakazi feature, you must pay for the "Gold" subscription, it costs $55.95 a month, and only after you pay for that, when you type ".show kamakazi", the kamakazi options show in the hangar. However, the kamakazi options start at 250 perks, for a Val with a small bomb, and you get one mission every hour, after that mission, you cannot fly, drive, gun, or sail again for one hour. Sign up and help yourselves.:t

I was up in Ju88's heading to the CV with torps last week. Some tard came straight at me in a seafire for a HO. Instead of killing me, he wounded me but in the process rammed he head on. Needless to say, he exploded on contact and I kept on flying just fine :)

For those of you who have not yet figured it out, there is no penalty in this game for death. Therefore, you cannot have kamakazi operations. If you want kamakazi operations, then go somewhere else, because it ain't gonna happen here. You already die without any real penalty, there will be no suicide for gain here.

I think calling Japanese people 'Japs' has a higher chance of offending them than allowing kamakazi attacks.

Kamikazi means 'Divine Wind' in Japanese. To the Allies and modern people it means 'suicide attack'. The word Kamikazi comes from ancient Japan when a series of Typhoons saved Japan from the Invading Mongols in 1274 and 1281. Kamikazi doesn't mean to do as much damage as possible. The reason the Japanese Pilots used the term Kamikazi was because they saw themselves as the 'Divine Wind' that would save Japan.

Post by: Krusty on February 04, 2007, 04:10:08 PM
The national insignia for Finland is NOT a swastika. The symbol is an ancient one, often meant to bring good luck. The "swastika" used by the Nazi party is tilted on its end (diamond instead of square) on a white background. The swastika would be on the tail of Fw190s and Me109s and so forth, but is NOT present in this game, for legal reasons in Germany.

The Finnish skins are legal because they do not carry swastikas, despite claims that they do.

I would vote yes with one caviat.

The kamakazi player who sacrafices his life can't log on and play for 3 days.  Then sure, sounds good.
Title: kamikazi
Post by: Krusty on February 05, 2007, 03:03:25 PM
How about AH has a new requirement. If it doesn't detect a loaded gun pointed at the player's head, it won't log on to any arena. If the player kamikazes into anything the gun fires into the head of said player, killing them, ruining the lives of their loved ones and family members.

That would be about the only fair way of including kamikazes into this game. So let's drop it there, shall we?

Actually he makes a point, when a ton of Aircraft ,fuel, and ammo run into say a field ack, something has to give.  A single 20mm cannon round exploding will kill that ack. Yet a 2000 lb plane impacting at 200 mph plus won't? Granted thats ALL it should kill, ie single city buidling, single ack. What it should actually do is start a 2 min fireball 20 yards in diameter leaving a pile of twisted wreckage in the center.

Pearl Harbour I think said it best, "so your hit, not NOT going home, you can't make it, choice is to be captured, or take something out as you go"

Same holds true here.

Would it be abused, probably, which is prob why we havn't seen it.

Actually, I would have no problem with a Kamakaze.   One catch, if you die in such an attack, you are done for 24 hours.

While this wouldn't be enough of a penalty for some, it would add realism and provide the appropriate penalty (almost).

:)

Though I don't think that it has any place in the MA, I think that Kamikazi's would be usefull in Events.

I know that there are moral hangups here, but even with the Judy or Grace, the Japanese may well be hard pressed to sink Allied ships late in the war (against F4Us and F6Fs).

Granted we already take care of one of the biggest reason for Kamis (lack of experienced combat pilots), but I would still be interested to see how they might play out in a Scenario. I know we could have certainly used them in the CAP event.
