Title: squad imposters, and how to deal with it?
Post by: porkfrog on February 06, 2007, 05:36:12 PM
it's been brought to my attention that there are 2 players who formed a squad called "Pigs On The Wings". it is not known at this time if they even know we the "Pigs On The Wing" exist, and have for over 6 years.

if they don't know and we tell them and they say "oh.ok. we will change our name", there's no harm done.

what if they say, shove it up your hole?

what recourse might we have as a squad? what if they are a couple of salamanders and people start to mistake them for members of our squad?

anyone?

Well if they are, you can be sure people will assume they are in your squad.

No squad can use the exact name another squad has, if I recall. You have to have at least 1 character different, right?

So if you want to avoid having folks think these newbies are yours, what if you just change the name slightly? Like put a * in front of and after the name? Or put "..." around it?

Just something that's the equivelant of Rob Schneider in "Judge Dredd" saying "Excuse me! We're not together!!"

As for getting them to change their name, I don't think you can do anything to force them.

I don't think you have any recourse.  I just saw a squad named "999000 is a HO", and I'm thinking that if something could be done about a squad name, something would've been done about that one.

Unpossible! Photoshopped!

Besides, a vulture isn't even a bird of prey!

I feel you.
Our squad went through the same thing with:

~Hells Angels~
and
303BG/360BS "Hells angels"  :huh  said buff squad.:huh

There response had the same tone that your response did.

If I/we can help PM me in LW or BBS.

303rd is a buff group, Hell's Angels.  Their name is different from ~~Hells Angels~~.

They were nice enough to make sure people knew it was the 303rd BG.

Angry, your situation is a little different.

As for Jolly, um, your squad is known for being a bunch of ho'tards.:D

I say DA him.

May the best ho win.

Have you considered recruiting the imposters? That's how we dealt with a similar situation.

Duel them for the rights to the name.  Thats the way it's always been done (since AW) if you can't come to an agreement.

One day someone was up with the handle BaldEgle.  I cried enough on 200 that that was the last time i saw them (with that handle), but dueling for it was the suggestion from most on 200.

nah, dueling is out of the question since we have been the pigs for over 6 years. and own the domain- pigsonthewing.org

until i come across these 2 persons, i'm not going to wrry about it too much.

ill keep everyone posted.

Before I joined the “Birds of Prey”… In an effort to really annoy one of their members, I formed my own squad called the “Birds of Clay, Pigeons”.

Unfortunately, I had no idea so many of the BOPs had such a good sense of humor…  Before long, I was asked to join a few missions... and eventually the squad itself.

As for the Birds of Prey Vultures... That was not photo-shopped. I remember seeing it in the MA... And I was plenty upset, as I had wanted to start that wing myself! Mostly just because I miss my old squad nose art!

As taken from
North American Birds of Prey (http://www.eagles.org/otherbirds.html)

OTHER NORTH AMERICAN BIRDS OF PREY include hawks, falcons, owls, vultures and condors.

There.... it is on the internet.... It must be true!!!  :D

Actually, you can have the same name...case in point is my crazy crew.  At one time we were 4 separate 'squads' (our wings), all with same in game name (III./ JG44 Night Hawks).  the  unique key for the squads, methinks, is the squad CO.

Now, we consolidated to two wings (2 in game squads) and both use the same squad name.  knuckels is the head of one, jeb the other.

GL fixing your problemo Jolly...hope they dont cause any issues
