just a question as to why ground icons are shown from air its not like in ww2 the pilots saw on the grnd a neon sign that said panzer 2.5 parked right here. i know that we can turn icons off but whats the point ya dont see icons when its tank vs tank, so why see it air vs gv i think it would make it more fair to gvrs to not be able to see the icon from air at any range makem work for the kill by hunting them and listening and watching for the canon blast

Okay.
Get rid of the aerial plane icons for GVs too, then we've got a deal.

sounds good to me
i think the only icons that should be seen are friendly

Because the monitor is a poor substitute for the human eye.

well just means fighters will have to get closer than 2000 yards to see a tank ive flown planes at tree top levels to see where one was cause it didnt show in icon range or is that to much work for most players.....oh theres one a 2k lining up bombs away and score one dead tank....besides even at 2 k out the human eye wont see a camo'd tank hiding in trees sorry

Translation "I don't want anyone to be able to bomb me"

i think the guy has a fair point, that is only validated by kweassa's.

I think you could argue that the ground war (and ground attack) in AH isn't much like RL to begin with. Very limited vision, no spotters, no intel reports, no armored divisions advancing in mass, no maps showing enemy positions, no briefings, no tracks on the ground, no vehicles specific to one country, no support convoys to destroy and render tanks useless, no ammo and fuel depots, no bridges, no roads, no nothing. All we have is that icon when we get within 2 miles. I don't see a point in giving the GVers an advantage here, but that's just my opinion.

GVs have very little place in this game, but they're hear, so we deal with 'em.
Also, the monitor you're looking at is a very poor representation of what the human eyes can see, as Bronk stated (and many people in the past as well). If there were a 100-ton battle tank parked and I was flying over it, how easy do you think it would be to spot? Unless it was hidden and immobile, very easy. They leave large smoke clouds, are very noisy, and don't really "blend in" with surroundings. Pretending that a plane wouldn't be able to tell what it was just by looking at it is akin to sticking your fingers in your ears and humming "LA LA LA YOU CAN'T SEE ME!"
(right before "Hey, why'd I die, you couldn't see me!!!")

Your wrong there Krusty, GV's are more than a "little place" in this game. Most of the field captures are from GV's, and you have field defense in Osties and M16's.

Let me clarify: GVs are in this game, and they are USED by many people, but their role in the virtual war has nothing to do whatsoever with the way they were used in real war, nor is there any real purpose for them, as we have no ground war, nor is there any infrastructure for them to disrupt, or to supply them, or even any reason for them to be in this game other than "That might be cool to have".
AH is very much a flight sim, with the way the code works. GVs "fly" along the ground, but it's not even close to games designed for vehicles. Not to mention problems with the damage code on tanks and GV armor, and the issues with distances (which is why they spawn 5 minutes from their objective all the time).
So like I said, they have very little place. Regardless, they are used, despite the drawback to the way they are implemented.

Yeah, we need to have icons cause like they said above, the puter screen no substitution for real world depth perception.
I've bombed GV's from 7k in level bombers, cause I could see the little 'dot' they make down there. Other times can't see a gv icon in tree's until I fly right over it or get the right 'angle' to see it.
Don't know what to tell you on this one. It does seem to me that GV's are disproportionately dissadvantaged.
I made a suggestion once that if the GV was still for 5 mins or more, that could perhaps be equated to real life of setting up camoflaged nets or something, branches, etc. And in that case the GVs icon couldn't be seen as easily.
Who wants to be in a GV anyway...rolling around on the ground like...like...like some kinda worm or something.

I think they should ICON the elusive sheep, been a few years since I have seen one of these crafty and evasive animals. Perhaps they have become extinct?
I have heard Rumors that Silat was hoarding them somewhere in his back forty, but who knows.
ICON THE SHEEP !!!!!
