Title: Voodoo 5500 + Win2K + AH1.08 = no work
Post by: PapaFox on October 08, 2001, 03:36:00 PM
PIII 600
Voodoo 5 5500AGP
256 MB ram
Windows 2000 patch 1
DirectX 8.0a

I have several computers in a room, but one combination will not work with AH1.08. I have a dual boot machine, and the 3dfx Voodoo 5 card will not work when Win2K selected. Symptoms are very slow load of AH, and a mouse cursor that takes about 10 seconds to move when mouse is moved. This same machine works fine when booted in Win98, but I use Win98 seldom and really would like the Voodoo5 to work on Win2K. Anyone out there have success with a Win2K machine and Voodoo 5?

To start with make sure you have DX8 installed on the 2k box.  Then go get Win2k SP2 and all the compatibility updates.

That should do it.

Thanks for suggestions, but I think I found the problem. Voodoo5 will work ok in 16bit color, but not in 32 bit color. This was not a problem in earlier versions. Perhaps Hitech can do some tweaking to make voodoo5 work with Win2K and 32bit color, like it did in previous versions.

Strange.  Mine works fine in 32 bit color, but I'm on 98SE.

Lephturn,

My Voodoo 5500 also works ok in 32 bit color on the same machine when I boot up in Win98 instead of Win2K. There is some weird incompatibility that is keeping the 5500 from working in 32 bit color in Win2K with AH1.08.
