Title: Dev Cheating
Post by: Terror on February 11, 2007, 03:10:34 PM
A developer in EVE Online has admitted (http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=424) to using his developer position to further the end of the alliance (guild/squadron) he belonged to.

How would the AH community react if one of the AH developers used their "dev" capabilities to give a specific squadron advantages over any other squadron for personal reasons?  Would you consider leaving AH due to this, or would "punishment" of the guilty developer be enough for trust to be regained in the company?

Disclaimer:  This in NO WAY insinuates that HTC or any of it's employees has done or ever even thought of doing anything of this nature.  This is a completely hypothetical situation...

I wouldn't care to be honest.  HTC are entitled to enjoy the game they made in whatever way they see fit.

A bit off topic, but i fully expect them to have had plenty of fun at the community's expense without our knowing.  I know i would.

I disagree, if I were paying to compete in a game I would expect the rules and limits to apply to all evenly.  I would not care to pay for a game only to have to compete against cheaters.

Leave? HOW?!? HTC has cornered the market on this type of game. We couldnt leave if we wanted too, as there is nowhere else to go. Id just sit back and keep playing.

Wouldn`t make one bit of difference one way or the other.
Skuzz would just wander through and trip over his power cord anyway.

No, but if he gave it to his entire squadron to use against everybody else, then that would definitely annoy me.

Back in the day, when B17s didn't have any guns, I attacked one and got shredded by the .50s. HT was driving it and I still played for years after that :D

That said, the EVE thing is pretty wrong, the guys getting the help are already on their way to be a totally crushing force in the game without needing any help, so it's quite bitter to learn that on top they were getting underhanded perks while totally obliterating the opposition.

Still, EVE is too much of a good game to leave for that, and I trust that CCP will now keep a closer look over their employees, though the PR hit is hard.

Map resets and GA stuff is temporal in a way that it is not in EVE. Your corporation defines your very existence, day in and day out in that game.

It would be akin to rooks having a better regen rate for everything, just for the hell of it because some HTC employees flew rook. Or - given that this was the leaking of blueprint info - it's more like rooks having a different perk rate so they get better planes more often.

It's just stupid and the employee should be terminated over it.

So THAT'S how those guys get all those perk points!
