I dunno where y'all are thinking of having it, but start looking for WWII or aviation events around that time, like the WWII Weekend in Reading PA. Might make for a good get together for a bunch of WWII flight sim junkies. :)

Got a couple squaddies that went to that last summer...they said it was a blast.
Betty as mentioned earlier....The Dayton Airshow would also be a good idea along with a trip to Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum, which is the "official" museum of the AF and one of my favorite places to visit. So if you decide to have it anywhere near Dayton I'll be there. Heck I could probably even make it to Reading, PA for MAAM. Keep us informed on this.

I used to work at a marketing department for the head office of a college that also had flight and mechanical training, and so I was talking to somebody once, and she was rather casual about it (I guess she doesn't like aviation).
"Yeah, we've got this thing we're putting together for some airshow. Out in the country or something. Supposed to be big."
You can imagine my jaw justabout dropped off. I asked "Uh, you mean Oshkosh??"
And she said "Yeah, that's the one. We send somebody every year".
Damn lucky marketing SOBs, don't realize how lucky they are!
-

someone on the game was sayin it was worth the 35.00 to get a pavillion seat, only thing i'm worried bout is that they are assigned seats, what happens if we all dont get to be in the same area :(
unless everyone purchased their tickets early, visit that website on my last post and tell me what yall think.

I go every year on the last Saturday, will be Saturday, July 28 this year.
It is a yearly thing, EAA and then up to MI for personal reasons as close to July 27 as possible.
you can definitely count me in for that, met many AH'ers there in the past too.
have to say sorry Betty, the MI thing must be done that weekend, personal reasons, so for me it is EAA (because it is on the way to the UP)
-
I second Mace's nomination of Fun & Sun :)
-
GUYS! PLEASE EMAIL ME AT BLAZERGIRL85@YAHOO.COM
if yall plan on attending, heres what i'm thinkin.....
i'm gonna call the ppl that are hosting this event and SEE if they will reserve like 3 pavillion tables just for AH members, each table seats 6 people, but then at least this way if we get table numbers then when everyone purchases their tickets, they will be able to get that table seat. their website is down right now but once it comes back up, i'll get the phone number and call them, but i would like to know a close number of people that plan to attend. i'm sure this is a big event down there and we all know " the early bird gets the worm " hehe
let me know guys
also, i'm gonna call a few of the local hotels in the area and see if we can get a good rate on rooms, prolly be a holiday inn or best western. but if we can get a block of rooms for a decent price it would b awsome :)
-
seeming how we're bunch of AH nerds that r gonna b goin to this airshow and stuff, maybe mr hitech could get us some hats or tshirts to wear there :)
just a thought....

LATEST NEWS!!!!!
SEEMING HOW NOT MANY OF YALL HAVE EMAILED ME TO LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING OR NOT.......HERE IS THE LATEST NEWS
i called the local holiday inn in dayton, i was able to negotiate a decent price for rooms, they put a group block for 50 rooms for us, we prolly wont use them all but atleast there will be plenty for us. the room rate is 89.00 per night and that is a good price for them concidering there is an airshow coming to town. rooms will fill up fast so call and make your reservations ASAP.
Dayton Holiday Inn
right off I75 and 14 miles from the airshow, strait shot to the airport
937-424-5903
block of rooms under the name : ACES HIGH
GIVE THAT NAME SO U GET THE 89.00 PER NIGHT DEAL

I fly to Dayton almost every week.
Lemme know if you need some support.
My squadron has held a get together centered around the Dayton Airshow.
Here is how we did it.
Arrive on Thursday, Museum on Friday, Airshow on Saturday, Sunday departure.
The Museum is pretty big. 4 hours there and you will be tired but not done. I've been to the museum several times and still haven't seen it all.
Leave very early for the Airshow. Lots of traffic. You won't have time for the Museum after the show and you will be wiped out anyway.
Bring a folding chair and you don't need pavillion seats unless you get into one of the free drinks tents.
Hotel prices will be high. Its a big event. I'm familiar with the hotels and can give direct info for those that might be interested.
-
The Dayton International Airport is actually in Vandalia, Ohio. There is a group of hotels and restaurants a few miles south of the airport (I-75 and Wyse Road).
There are 5 or 6 hotels and many chain type restaurants in this cluster. There is an aviation-themed bar (Wings) within a mile of this cluster of Hotels/Restaurants.
Restaurants:
Max and Erma's, Outback, Don Pablo, Chipotle, Nothing but Noodles, Cracker Barrel, Hooters, Panera Bread, Skyline Chili, Sake Japanese, Joe's Crab Shack
There are more but I cant remember all the names.
Hotels:
Courtyard Dayton North
Fairfield Inn
Motel 6
Comfort Inn
Red Roof
Extended Stay
Drury Inn
All of these Hotels are on Miller Lane in Vandalia Ohio.
This is the most convenient block of Hotels and Restaurants to the Airport.
There are others of course.
Downtown Dayton is pretty interesting.
Here are my recommendations downtown.
Dublin Pub is a good Irish bar. Excellent Guinness pours and good beef stew. Fifth and Wayne in the Oregon District. Live Music but the best guy plays on Wednesday. Sometimes they have Irish music on the weekends.
Jays Seafood on Sixth also in the Oregon district. Kindy pricey.
Wings Bar and Grill on Wyse and North Dixie in Vandalia is an aviation themed bar that we spent an evening at. Older crowd (for some of the youth in this game anyway)
-
thanx for the info gumbeau, i think then i'll just get a General Admin ticket and bring my own cooler and folding chairs, they have cup holders too :)
ur welcome to use that group rate also for ur squad, doupt we'll fill all 50 rooms, give the the group name : ACES HIGH
89.00 night isn't too bad, if ur arriving sooner, just let them know at the hotel k they said we can arrive anytime under that rate.
-
I wont know if I'm gonna make it until the last minute.
I have an extremely variable schedule.
Besides....I have a gazillion Marriott points so I'll be in a Marriott property.
-
this is what i'm thinkin...let me know what yall think....

The tickets are cheaper at the local Kroger store, i believe they are like 5 too 6 bux less.
As for the drinks & R&R afterwards betty, your never gonna believe this but right down the road is a little watering hole called " The Spitfire Grill ".
-
Wings is a nice place and not neccesarily for the older crowd. I see lots of younger ones there too. Pool, Darts and Electronic Golf and excellent food.
What do ya think about a bowling night? I haven't bowled in years but it would be easy for me to set somethin up.:aok
-
that would b fun for friday night shawk. i plan on leavin friday morning i'll get there early afternoon.

Ah unfortunately my contact is no longer at the Museum, that was 1991 a long time ago I think he passed away.
What I did was call the Museum and get access to the data base there for research of flight information. Then NB and I went over and dug through the archives and sent all relevent info to Kesmai. I don't know if they are allowing that anymore. Check their website. But that lead to us getting into the Museum a couple hours early on a Saturday and having it to ourselves as well as sitting in the B-17G, B-24 and P-51D. I do believe they have a new rule that cockpit access is not allowed.
I would suggest that you contact the museum guest services and tell them what is going on and that you are having a convention of people who are interested in WW2 aircraft. Maybe you could get a tour guide and access to the restoration shop.
I had my bachelor party there back in 1994, and got to sit in the 51 cockpit again. Robert "Mouse" Shaw gave us a private tour of the museum, I don't know if he is still around those parts but he was a great guide. Hitech were you along for that? I know BlueBaron and Winchester were.
I was over there in October and they have really rearranged things where it had been stagnent for the entire 90s. The one gallery is entirely WW2 now. Lots of neat stuff including a pristine A6M2, Beaufighter, P-47D40 and Bf109-G14.
Excellent bookstore so bring lots of cash and empty spots in your luggage.
-
well ty anyways fencer, it was worth the try <
> thanx a bunch
-
You can arrange tours with the museum. The presidential tour is a must and i strongly urge you to call the Museum & reserve a tour for the dates involved. This is one of the busiest days of the year at the Museum so be prepared for large crowds of people, and bring lots of CASH with you because i garuntee you'll see at least 25 things in the gift shop that you want.
-
i'll do that tomorrow, ty. i'll set up a tour for our group for sunday july 28th. sound good guys?

Be sure to tell them which tour. The presidential must be reserved for the collection which includes the original AirForce 1 and Pres.Kennedy's aircraft are being stored on Wright Patterson Airforce Base & require special permission to tour.

Ok......I'm in for Friday through Sunday.
See you all there.
