Title: Silent Hunter 4
Post by: republic on February 14, 2007, 02:56:40 PM
It's almost out!!   Anyone else been waiting for this game?

I've been a subsim addict since Silent Service.  I logged many many many hours in Silent Hunter 3...can't wait to be a goodguy for once!

I just wish they'd have fixed that buggy Destroyer Command and kept it in pace with Silent Service.  I remember having a couple fun LAN games with others.... when bugs wouldn't shut us down.

Ubisoft dumped Starforce awhile ago.  For those that have old Ubisoft games that have Starforce, there are programs that will remove the Starforce files and allow you to still run the game.

Do you have a link for any of them or do i need to use my google skills?

I took the chanse and installed sh3 with starforce just before i knew i was gonna re-install this pc, but havent installed the game again after.

If SH4 has about the same spec requirements as sh3 and does not use starforce ill get it for sure. :)

SH4 looks pretty nice... hope they added stuff like refuel/rearm tenders this time around.

You can play any game without starforce if you install it, use the starforce removal tool, corrupt your OS in the process, reinstall OS and then download a no-dvd patch for the game without reinstalling it.

That's what I did. :D

Frenchy,

it looks prettier, I don't know about the new features yet (except you will be driving amheerkan subs)... but I will get it.

I've always loved the Pacific theatre with regards to sub warfare. Silent Service I and II were great back in the day and I have great expectation for Silent Hunter IV. Silent Hunter III is great too, but after SH I, II and III all being the U-boot Waffe in the Atlantic a change of venue is more than welcome. Too bad we can’t be the Japanese this time around; I don’t think that has ever been done.

SH4 looks great and like it will force me to put the newest rig into full time gaming service in the very near future.

I finished a campaign in SH3 and never really got the desire to start another one.  What drives a person to start another campaign?  Higher score?

Fun?

I've enjoyed every campaign Ive played. I pick random start times and Random patrol numbers, etc, using SH3 Commander. Sometimes my campaigns are only two or three patrols. I was involved in WAW for a while, and bowed out after I was killed off Cape Hatteras Late 1942.

I guess I just like SH3 a lot :), Now if only AH had Subs.

Is there going to be a "surface only" campaign for those of us that are more interested in surface warfare?  I've been dying for an updated WWII naval surface cobat sim.  I have been playing Fighting Steel pretty much since '01.  Wayyyyyyy over due for a graphic upgrade of my favorite genre PC game.

Ever play any of the old sailing ship wargames?  Sure the action is slow, but its just that much sweeter when you pull off the perfect "crossing the T".  :)

Oh man I loved fighting steel!  Before that I played the great naval battles series.  I have high hopes for Matrix Games "Carriers at War".

As has been said already, after using the starforce removal tool, it is critical that you install a No-CD or No-DVD patch.

If you don't, the next time you insert the SH3 CD/DVD it will just re-install starforce onto your system all over again.

Dumb question. Is SH4 a stand alone game or is it an expansion to an earlier version?
