Well we got back today - it was a great ball for the unit. From what they told me, half of the entire base is in Iraq since November 06, with the other half that are here rotating back for a 2nd tour in August, some sooner.
On a side note, we (the band) were all given a special coin (1st tour 4ID Div Commemorative in Iraq) by the Lt. Colonel in charge there. I was told it's sometimes useful in some free drinks against the non coin holders - but can backfire too.
i drank for free that night :)

Of all the years I've served I have YET to get a single challenge coin.
:furious

Diablo - If i get another one in the future - I'll send it to ya :aok but it is quite a beautiful coin and an honor for me to receive one.
-
Thanks bud, but I'd rather be given it from something I did or participated in. I was in Panama in '05 and '06 and both times I watched O-5's and O-6's swap coins while I stood and watched. I felt like doing a "grab 'n run" but thought it wouldn't be too kosher. My oldest brother has 2 pinebox fulls of challenge coins. That's what you get after 28 years in the Army.

that aint right diablo :furious

What'd I do??? :cry
Challenge coin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenge_coin)
-
nothing short of earing at least one or two....
I meant 'that aint right' to be that you should have a couple.
my civilian opinion and all.. just sayin
-
Ahhh the old coin challenge.....I made out so many times with that. Just remember which Regimental, Unit or Group coin you have and keep them all in yer right pocket.
In Korea I used to nail a young Co Commander at every Dining in or Dining out... He was once a young LT in the 2nd ACR. Then came to Korea. He'd brag about being in a ACR...I'd cup my Regimental 2nd ACR coin in my hand and greet him.. shake his hand and when he felt the coin there he knew he was had.
He never had a Regimental Coin and I was the only one within the 1st Sig Brigade to hold one.... I used it every dam time.... it pisseed him off alot.
Pffft Frikken Officers....
:D

I'd leave that little smart-ass attitude in Nashville if I were you..

Hehehe Mac,
No problem. I met more than one NCO that didn't like Officers. My Top Sgt was one when I took command. He gave me a neat letter of appreciation when I rotated out. Some of us, perhaps most, understand the importance of an NCO. Some of us are willing to let them have lattitude to experiment. My NCO's were the heart of my unit, far more than my LT's who I could trade at any time and not feel much of a loss except for my 2nd XO.
I had 2 Platoon Sgt.s turn down rotations and one a promotion to stay with me. I never got higher praise than that from my NCO's.
I had a challenge coin from the 7th ID before they went "light". Unfortunately it was lost when my wallet was lost one day.

I didn't detect anything resembling smart-ass in his question at all. Some of the follow on comments were perhaps more along that line... but not the original question. And after he returned, it's reiterated that it wasn't an inappropriate gesture, as he talked about the nice time that he had while there.

Joke's on you. I'd suggest moving to trolling again.
