Title: Big Rivers
Post by: cav58d on February 15, 2007, 10:28:09 PM
Big Rivers or estuarys or tributarys, large enough for a CV to pass through.  Theres a couple maps that are border line close, but in the end "waypoint touches land".

And yea I know....Tactically INSANE to bring a cv up a river, but it would be fun.

It would fit perfectly with the tactically insane gaminess already plaguing CV use in the game.

A CV in open water with no CAP defense with the ability (if not actually) able to turn is usually dead meat.

A CV in river?  Like pushing baby chicks into a pond.  And how wide a river to handle all the escorts too without constant "course intersects land" type messages to TG CO?

Rivers would be a nice addition.... and bridges.... little bottle necks... a place for Apocalypse Now fans to get in touch with their inner River Rat with PT's.

Cool but impractical.  Ted's idea holds more... water though... :huh

like you didn't see that one coming a league away?  Sometimes I just can't fathom my own humor.  Knot sure many others can either. :lol

if someone sees it sitting in river, ON COME THE LANSTUKAS

it would be cool to "stop a CV from moving...instead of it moving constantly, you get it into a little bay and turn off engines...anyone think?

Then you can sit in the tower and bet on how long it takes for those trying to take off to come to the understanding ( albeit graphically ) the necessity for CVs to turn into the wind when launching aircraft. ( or generate an ample amount of wind on their own )

Don't ask me how I know this.. lol.

Shade accounts would LOVE that.

Up bombers... head toward the CV..... use shade account to "anchor" the TG.... drop bombs on idle CV.  As if it were not easy enough now.

Why not offer option to "stand-down" the auto-ack too?  Those poor 'bots need a break.

I'm not sure if you are aware of this, yet bridges are already available. The most recent TE update from HTC has included some new buildings and a brand spanking new bridge design. Although the only thing I'm gonna say which you don't wanna hear is that It's in the OE, not the TE. So HTC would not allow the bridges to be showing up in MA terrains.

it would be idea...sure about shade accounts...you could park in a bay and wait for say a mission heading ib, all bombers...to take out hangers and crap...then send the CV in for th base taking...:O :O

Navigable rivers would be great, but not for CV use.  They would have to be unreasonably wide to allow passage, and sitting ducks while in transit.  Now for river warfare, they would be great!  We had a Rhine map someone built that got used in the Axis&Allies arena.  There were PT spawn points on the river, and opposing v-bases right on the river banks.  This would allow cross-river assaults.  Cools stuff.

I'm not sure why we don't have river bridges in the MA.  It would be cool to have a spawn point about a mile from the bridge, with the v-base just on the other side.

Denholm, it's possible those bridges may be available in the TE after the next update since they're redoing the terrain textures/objects.

He does have apoint, many of the maps used in the SEA and AvA maps have a lot of nice features.  Loved the details in the Japan map when we did Downfall.  The LARGE cities, bridges, very different look at airfields.

Even if they just opened ONE of the late war arenas to maps with these features would be a nice break.

those rivers would be 6 miles wide at the narrowest in order for a cv to be able to pass through

Hmmm... * looks at Spikes sig, then at own sig.  Considers mentioning, this is my second name since Beta.*  Naw, the subtlety would be lost  :D

I didn't mention any names, Spike.  Just that y'all need to think this through, especially about the 'shade accounts' lamers. :p

Panama Canal would be an invite for no-talent peeps to pad their scores.  No real value other than that.

Now, if you placed vicious AAA all along the river, that reached to 30k to give the CV some cover... yeah that'd be a neat idea.  Then anyone, shade or not, taking on the Task Group would have to run a gauntlet of fire.

Or better yet, high walled fjords, with some light AAA to make those NOE missions exciting... that'd be easier to do.

*shrugs* :aok

That would be great, we'd finally be able to build something worth waiting for.

They already are available in the TE/OE

They are in the OE, as I said, but not the TE. If they are placed in the TE by HTC then that means we can start making MA maps with bridges in them.

EDIT: They actually could be in the TE, I haven't checked (Dumb me). Sorry.
