Title: Joystick problems

im having problems with my joystick. i tried calibrating it in the game, and i dont know how to calibrate it in windows. in the game, in flight the controller could be untouched, and it pulls to the right. so takeoffs are difficult. but while im in flight it really doesnt affect me. its all screwy. with the program the stick came with, all the buttons respond and stuff correctly. maybe its just something with the game? anyway any info would be appreciated

I believe that what is happening is that the torque of the engine is pulling your plane to the right. That's what happens in real life too. I think the P38 has counterrotating props. Try flying that and notice the difference.

I Think you really need to start by calibrating it in Windows. In XP you can go to the control panel then to hardware and then to game controllers. Once there I'm sure you will find out how to calibrate it.

Back in Aces high I would suggest you re-calibrate first and then take a vehicle for a drive! they don't swing with engine torque and if it drives straight and steers OK I would think your stick is OK

As with the other reply, unless you are using autotakeoff you have to counter all the "real life" type forces this game comes with. That's why there is an auto take off option for those who cannot cope, or like an easy take off!

Also note that the P-38 behaves this way if there is a crosswind.  Be sure that there is no wind, or that you are taking off into it.

ok i did all that, and i even jumped into a vehicle for a minute, everything is fine with the turns. but now i figured its my rudder that acts all screwy. i calibrated it in xp, and in the game. is there a way to adjust the rudder and its sensitivity in the game? thanks

yes, go into set controllers on the game notebook, click on the axis that is your rudder, at the top of the notebook click on a"advanced"this will swing out another page. Make sure the box is checked to allow scaling. adjust the sliders to adjust the sensitivity of your control.

This could be it's own thread.

For those of us who do use a Twist Stick,  I was subject to severe turning when in the bombers guns.  I found a great solution!

Under keyboard settings make a MODE 3 button for when either gunning or tanking/PT Boat needs a steady hand in the guns.

I map a mode 3 with a copy of set 2 (except for rudder action) with the rudder not addressed.  That way you can avoid moving your craft all over the skies and possibily out of formation, and it sure gives you better aim.  On my keyboard the N key is mode 1 and M key is the new one mode 3.   Mode 2 does not need to be addressed at this point that I can see.
