In the following categories:

$15,000 - $25,000

$25,000 - $35,000

$35,000 - $50,000

$50,000 - up

Rated in terms of reliability, power, value, handling, ergonomics, fit-and-finish, styling, resale value.

I'm kinda tired of hearing Motor Trendy's spin on this.  What do you guys think....the ones who actually drive some of these cars?

Regards, Shuckins

Infiniti G35 Sedan with 300 hp can be had for under $35,000.  Loaded, for about $42,000.  3-Series starts below $35,000 but it's basically stripped and has only 230 hp.  A 335i with 300 hp starts at almost $40,000 and when comparably equipped with the loaded G35 it's almost $52,000.  Infinity sure provides a lot more value but BMW has more panache.  Can't wait for the new G35 Coupe to debut, should be something.

By the criteria given, I have to agree with 1K3..... except the Honda or Nissan, and maybe not the BMW.

Toyotas and Lexus (high end Toyotas really) definitely meet reliability, power, value, handling, ergonomics, fit-and-finish, styling, resale value..... requirements you list.  Nice warranties too.

I'll add dependable too.  Two good friends of mine are Toyota Master Techs.  They also work on BMW's, Audies, and VW's as well, and see many other cars that come in as trade-ins.  They both swear by Toyota.

Now, if you planning on lowering kits, remapping the boards, and lot's of alterations to the car.... find a nice cheap Japanese car to mangle.. ... similar reasoning that goes on between motorcycle riders that buy high-end high speed/power bikes for track day, and those that street race and pull stupid stunts in traffic on comparatively cheap race replicas.    Cheap motorcycles are more expendable (as are these kinds of riders IMNSHO).
