The Niki uses the same engine as the Frank but it doesn't have WEP for its second stage supercharger.
What is the reason as the TAIC shows it does.
-
The IJN and IJA used different boost specifications for the engine.
Also, keep in mind that there are many different versions of the Ha-45 with different critical altitudes. Just in the Ki-84 at least four different such engines were used.

My Suzuki DL650 uses the same engine as the SV650
The DL:
produces more midrange torque
Has a lower RPM limit
produces Less MAXIMUM torque
This is because of
Slightly higher compression
Different Cams
Different throttle bodies
WHY:
because the SV650 is a "Sports Twin" and the DL650 is a "Euro Tourer"
Mind you I can still give an SV650 a good race to 180+ and I am a dam site more comfy after 800K + in the saddle

LOL!
Gotta love the connection, but non-riders just are not going to get it mussie.
Oh, well, gonna take the Victory Hammer out for a spin. 60 F degree day in Colorado Springs today. Might drop by the Kawasaki dealer and see when he expects the new C-14 in. Really thinking about the new Concours to replace the ST1300.
Ride Safe!

I almost traded in on a GSX1400 yesterday..... :)

Are there any supporting documents for this difference?

Yes, many, but they are in Japanese and I do not have access to them.
I have read translations, but once again I do not have current access to them.
The most powerful version that saw widespread use was the Ha-45-21 which peaked at 1,990hp, with good fuel. That is the engine our Ki-84 in AH has, but it is running on the crappy sub 87 octane fuel the Japanese used in service so our Ki-84 falls far short of the 420mph recorded by the American tests.
