ive found the main reason i like the spit series is the 20mm/50 cal or 30 cal
it give me the ability, at least i THINK, and im asking to confirm this, to turn, dive, roll, climb, ect while firing my smaller guns (.50 or .30 cal) and catch my opponent and to use my 20mm to really chew up thier arse :lol
however, i have heard some debate over the differences and worthiness of the 20mm's, but most people will agree the .50 cal is the best all around, after all, its freakin' big and you can carry lots of it lol

nice flame bait
20 mm is in fact better then .50's in almost any aspect (slightly worse ballistic)

The 20mm Hispanos on the British birds are better in every way than the .50's. The 20mm's on the F4U-1C are also better and, for some reason, the 20mm Mausers on the C.205 also seem better although I can't say that of them on the German aircraft.
The 20mm's on the LA's seem worse than the American .50's to me as do the 20mm's on the German planes, although the German 30mm's are awsome.
Just my take on it.

Hi,
i think this information is a bit outdated, thats how it was for long time, now the german MG151/20 work rather good, while the 30mm lost its unbelievable heatseaker behaviour.

The game does not model any gun jams, etc. caused e.g. by G-forces.
I wonder if them being modeled would change the players' shooting behaviour. Would they become more cautious when to fire... I mean would tehre be less general spraying.
Then again, how much would the common players' fun factor suffer from gun jams....
Just thinking aloud :)

Russian 20mm are fine as long as your CLOSE. Get up close and personal and they are sweet. Try to snipe from 400+ and your going to be disappointed.
Granted they are not Hispano's but at the right range they work IMO much better than 6 .50's.

If it doesnt have cannon, I dont fly it. I just love telling that story of when I was in a Bf-109 G-14, with no MG rounds left and just one cannon round. While RTBing I came upon an Fw-190 who didnt see me. Suffice to say the Fw-190 soon found himself in the drink. But 1 .50 would NEVER have done that.

I just found this out on my own last night. I have a squaddie who flys the LA-5 a lot. Whenever I fly with him in his ride I die with no kills but I had the 20mm's set to D650 as I always do with cannon.
Last night I was thinking maybe they were'nt balistically sound enough for that distance as they seem to drop a lot, and set at 650 in close they were probably rising too much, thus my problem hitting with them, so I pulled them in to 400. The result... 2 kills on my next flight.
I'd still prefer a pack of .50's to these cannon though just for the flatter balistics.
As to whomever posted about the German cannon, I've flown the FW190-A8, TA152H and ME163 a lot and, while you're probaby right, I have compensated in my gunnery in these planes for the drop in the 30mm's so for me I'm just used to them.

Baldeagle, bring em in to 250 or 300 and don't shoot longer than that. You'll be amazed what a short burst does at 200.

I prefer 6 x 0.5 cal over 2 hispanos :p

I'm quite happy with my 4x .50, but if you ask me the British 20mm hits way to damn hard. I've lost a wing or tail to one hit from those damn HiZookas and on the next flight taken a 37mm and made it home. I can see the cockpit hits or the instant engine out from a cannon hit, but that much catastrophic structural damage to a single ping just doesn't seem right, especially when you can watch 4 or 5 30mm hit a B-24 and not do anything.
