Last night The History Channel did a thing about the prep work that Christie’s Auction House put into sorting through a few warehouses full of props and costumes from the 5 Star Trek TV series and the movies. It was a good show. The end was unbelievable, however.
The Enterprise used in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" went for $576,000. Christies predicted $25,000 to $35,000. Other six foot ship models broke the $200,000 mark. The flute that Picard used in one episode went for $40,000; it wasn’t even a working flute, it was just a prop. Picard’s captain's chair: $52,000. Kirk’s chair: $62,400. The total take was over $7,000,000.
I always thought Trekkies were a little nuts; I had no idea that so many were so wealth and still nuts. More power to them I suppose.

TWOK: The Wrath of Khan
(should I be embarrassed that I knew the answer to that without googling it?)

eskimo....
.....staggers the imagination doesn't it.
However, people will spend their money on the things that are important to them, or interest them greatly.
If I had it, I MIGHT spend that much on one of the original Star Trek ships. It would be much better spent on that than on something as repulsive as...oh, say....a Picasso (WHY is that man famous?).

Good point, I really don’t mean to knock them. I’m just often amazed as to how much money so many people have. That’s just a lot of discretionary income no matter what you spend it on.

Think how long the Star Trek phenomona went on. From a canceled series to over 3 decades of fans. It was an amazing thing to see all based on an entertainment series and a few movies.

The show after, the technology of Trek, how the things they "made up" are being developed (to varying degrees) was pretty cool.
