Title: W2K almost!
Post by: Gazoo on April 08, 2000, 08:06:00 AM
Hi Guys, I am waiting to open an account as I am forced to use W2K here.  I know W2K support isn't official yet, but I thought I would let you know what my problem is.

The mouse problem has now gone away, I can click and navigate to my hearts content.  I just cant use my keyboard.

My system:
PIII 550 256MB Ram
CL 16MB Banshee
MS Natural Keyboard (not USB, although I tried the USB Keyboard too with the same problem)
USB MS Intelli Mouse (now works)
OS: W2K  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Any ideas or suggestions.  The only keystrokes that seam to do anything are:
Ctrl+Alt+Del (Task Manager)
Alt+F4 (exits)

I have done the DL twice and installed twice.  Once where I tried setting my own keys in the keymap util, and once by just doing a clean install and not touching a thing.

Thanks for the efforts guys

Geez, first you want W2K mouse support, now keyboard support, what's next, joystick support?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)  Actually, we now have a copy of W2K but haven't installed it yet.  We'll be getting to that soon.

ah good news  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) btw after you install W2K, and if it's a nVidia adapter you have, make sure you install the latest drivers from nVidia.

drivers provided with the W2K disk do not provide 3D acceleration, neither in D3D nor OGL. I suspect the same for other graphic cards (Voodoo etc).

oh, and, yes the stick works fine, at least I can see the ailerons move and pull the trigger in my parked Typhoon  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I assume there is going to be a patch for this right guys - I reckon there are loads of people dying to play it (its sooo much better than anything like it i.e. warbirds)

For reference, herewith a summary of the W2K problems to date

1 - LH mouse read as RH mouse

2 - Cannot Cancel when changing video resolution

3 - No keyboard input

4 - Sees, but does not read USB stick (Saitek Cyborg 3D). This is even after calibrating and explicitly selecting the inputs.

5 - Crashes when you try to fly.

6 - Video corruption if you exit without flying (diagonal lightning bolt on main screen). Voodoo 3 3000 - will be V5 5500 when they release it.

7 - In the Tower, you get a FPS indication, and this is lower than on W98, so I'd *guess* that there is little use of threading, and less consideration of SMP machines.

8 - Umm...
