It's a darn shame you couldn't put a couple sentences IN for the MP's to bless the post. It was rather INtriguing and simply a good story. This happens to be a nice lINk.

maybe that's what that guy who posted about loud music and being disrespectful to an older gentleman needs to read.

So what's the constant references to "IN?"  (Sorry, I'm not hip...)

Whats even more intriguing is this quote by the cheif of police

"They were in their right to defend themselves after being held up," Hernandez said

Had that been here in some areas. the tourist would have been arrested and charged with using undue force

"IN'  basically means you recognise the violation of the forum rules and predict that the thread will be closed and you are placing your post on the the thread to get IN on the thrad before its closed

How long has #17 been there?  I either never got that far, or never checked the rules again for updates after reading them way back when...

Wow, did him in bare handed.  Unfortunately that will give ammo (so to speak) to the anti gun faction who'll chant: "See?  Toja guns are not necessary!"

anything is an extension of the real weapon, which is your mind. hands, feet, elbows, knees, salt and pepper shakers, bottles of any type, rocks, scrap iron, etc.  whatever you can turn into a missle becomes a weapon that will allow you to flee/re-postion for better advantage.  there is also the advantage one has over an attacker who believes he holds the upper hand and did not foresee the possibility that the victim will strike.  necks break easily as do arms and legs.  the thing is why risk injury when a well placed double tap leaves you with the only story to tell the authorities?

It would really be interesting to see how many of the anti's have ever been in a real fight. Not a punch in the face fight, but one that would result in the morgue if they lost. Unfortunately in the internet there are so many mr blacks rather than real folks. It gets real different when the knife is real.

I think the biggest harm we have done to ourselves has been the systematic emasculation of little boys beginning in grade school.  long gone are the days when by the third grade it was known amongst the male population who the top dogs were because it was settled in the playground.  learning to take a punch in the face and to eat dirt goes a long way towards creating the kind of people that the gentleman in question is.  if you don't know your limitations you also don't know your capabilities.  I wonder if the old guy guy didn't just size up the bandit and think I can take this punk and did so.  in any event an impressive story but one that was common years ago.

The story said the guy in his 70s was a retired serviceman.  To paraphrase Mac the Arthur, Old soldiers never die, they just break away.

not the salt and the pepper but the shakers, only a frenchman would think condiments could be used as weapons.  :D

I've seen many American seniors on bus trips here. I for one wouldn't mess with them. They are not shy and retiring types.

My dad is 78 and I don't think many of us could work a whole day alongside him plastering a house.  He is in very good shape for any age.  He has been to the doctor maybe 5 times in his life.

My Uncle and his wife travel abroad quite a bit.I believe he was 62 when they were visiting Italy.Three men attempted to steal my Aunt Pat's purse. One grabbed it,the other two grabbed him.

He kneed one guy,and punched the other one in the head several times.

The three men fled, and my Aunt still had her purse.

Besides being a pretty big guy,my Uncle also served in the Marines.
