Anyone have suggestions for a monitor/TV?
-
42" plasma.:O
NOT

Easily the best value is the sceptre (http://www.sceptre.com/) line. I got my 37 in (true 1080P) over a year ago. The plasma/LCD argument will go back and forth with each having its advantages. Overall I think plasma has a slight edge but Sceptre has an exceptionally bright crisp LCD

I am eye balling this one:
Samsung LN-S4695D 46" 1080p LCD HDTV (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000GDEZLG/interactiveda617-20)

Personally I'd hold off on the whole 1080P thing for now. There is currently very little content available @ that resolution, and on a 30-40" screen no one can see the difference between a 1080i and a 1080p picture. Not to mention if you run 1080p you have to run a digital signal, IE no component video allowed. The digital cables like HDMI are a half baked idea currently, I've seen better picture out of a analogue "lower resolution" signal many times.
In general plasma looks better than LCD, I think color representation is more accurate and it has MUCH better black levels. However for a computer monitor I would probably go with LCD as it has less concern with burn in.

wow very nice and a good price.
Here is the Sceptre 42" LCD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112180) For $1200 you cant beat it. I have the 37" and its got a tremendous picture. The reviews on the 42 do seem a bit more mixed...but I tend to think thats more setup issues (all LCD's need to be properly configured)....

Yes and no,
1080P content is certainly available (bluray/PS3 for one). Many older sets do not display 1080i and many media types don't give you any option besides 720P. Some either go 1080P or 480 as well. If your looking to buy a TV or monitor there is no reason to consider anything but 1080P....if you don't need one then waiting is certainly not a bad suggestion. If you have a PS3 you need a true 1080P monitor/TV (in many cases) or the game will default to 480.
If size isn't an issue then the 37/42 in sceptre's are a great bang for the buck. Obviously if you want/need something bigger then you need other options....
LCD/Plasma is dependent on a lot of variables....as a general rule plasma is better but not always (separate from "burn in" issues)

Any thoughts on the Samsung LN-R328W (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN-R328W-Widescreen-HDTV-Ready-Flat-Panel/dp/B0009612H0/sr=1-4/qid=1172344335/ref=sr_1_4/102-1193960-2415321?ie=UTF8&s=electronics) ?

I've been eyballing them in the stores.
Cant afford one yet but I've been eyeballing them LOL
The brand with the most consistantly sharp picture I've seen so far
Either in stores or in my customers houses is a brand called "LG"
Dont know about their overall quality of their products
But I've seen themas well as alot of other brands in stores, as well as alot of peoples houses
And they are the ones that have consistently had the best overall picture
IMO

I'm using the Westinghouse LVM42w2 1080p LCD monitor. I bought if from Crutchfield for $1,550 with a wall mount and shipping. I think this is a great monitor,It has 2, DVI ports, 1, HDMI port, and 1, VGA port. It is a true monitor meaning that it has no tuner of any kind built in.
As for the whole 1080p debate all I have to say is that if you want to use it as a computer monitor, especially if you want to use it for AH then the only way to go is 1080p.

1. Everything is fantastic on my display @ 1080p. I can't compare it to lower resolutions because it upconverts all sources and accepts 1080p via HDMI. I have been running my PC @ 1920x1080p for 16 months and it is awesome.
2. You may be right about the smaller screens @ 1080p.
3. My 1080p 981HD Oppp DVD player looks slightly better than my 971HD did @ 720p and 1080i on my 58" screen.

1. HDMI/HDCP isn't going away anytime soon.
2. I can't say I have ever seen a "better" picture from analog than digital but my SA 8300HD DVR is just as good @ 1080i via component as HDMI. I wouldn't waste my time connecting any analog input other than component or VGA.

1. Mostly agree and the black levels in LCD are getting better.
2. DLP is fading away but my color accuracy and black levels are as good as any plasma I have seen and no burn-in issues.

Every technology has it's own pro's and cons. Personally I've never cared much for DLP as a rear projection technology. If anyone is looking for a great rear-pro set I would look at the DILA based sets from JVC.
*edit* I should also state that my opinions are based purely on these being used as TV's. I haven't had the opportunity to fiddle with them as a monitor for a PC
