Title: Dead Meat
Post by: Goat1 on February 25, 2007, 02:18:43 PM
Need some advice,  9 out of 10 times when some one is on my 6, I'm dead meat.  I've tried turning left, right , climb and dive and I still get blasted out of the sky. I've tried different aircraft with the same results. Is there some manuvers I could try and practice on.  Thanks

Try looking at some of the training films available.  There are several by Murdr out there that show an escape maneuver that are excellent.  Study the film, then go into any arena and fly, when attacked turn on your film recorder, do the escape maneuver.  you can review your films later.

When viewing the training films pay attention to the little things that may not be mentioned or readily apparent in the training films.  The entry speed of your aircraft and that of the Bandit. Your position and the bandits position relative to you.   Is the  bandit diving increasing speed while you are in slightly less nose down position and slowing whiling at the same time rolling (turning)  pulling more G’s perhaps extending flaps???.

The idea of the Escape Maneuver is not to just escape, but to put you into a position of advantage and put the attacker on defense.

Learn one simple escape maneuver and you will be very suprised how much it impoves your chances in the game.

And if you have to pick one maneuver to start with, perhaps the split-S?  Barrel roll?  Scissors?

I don't even know where to start with escape maneuvers without a scenario.
