Title: FPS question with vista
Post by: dmf on February 25, 2007, 05:22:41 PM
ok I have a 3 gig computer using 512 meg or ram, windows vista home basic and the on board radeon 200 video chip set, I get fps of around 65-75 in every room I go into, only problem is, when I fly or see either a z6m zero, or a moss I lose all fps, but if I fly either plane on internal view I don't lose any fps, anybody have an idea whats wrong ?

You might try deleting any skins you have for those types.  Actually, I am surprised your fps are that good with Vista, 512 mb RAM and onboard video.

ok thanks I'll try that.

Yea I'm amazed too Skuzzy said I'd lose performance, but with the old computer I only got fps of around 20 or 25 with a 256 meg video card.
this computer runs everything I have faster and better except those 2 planes, my printer and my mouse LOL.

Well I tend to believe the more ram thing before I believe repoman, since its only those 2 planes, and only on ext view, unless I see one of them

Who the heck sold you a Vista rig with 512 MB RAM?  They should be put up against the wall at dawn and shot!

I'm avoiding Vista altogether for as long as possible, but I agree with those that say 2 GB RAM is minimum for that resource hawg.

My wife's laptop came straight from the factory with Vista Basic and 512mb of RAM. It now has 1gb and runs AH fine (tested it lastnight while she was in the bath).

Vista Basic - 1gb
Vista Premium - 2gb

Those are the only versions of the OS I have tested.

Actually I had it built an LLC here in Va Beach, the guy said 512 was the minimum required for vista home basic, and I did the research and I don't need home premium, or above. Vista home basic is only a little different than xp once you turn off the firewall it runs really nice and smooth. only issue I've had so far besides the 2 planes is my HP psc1410v all in one printer has no drivers anymore till HP makes one and my mouse wheel o longer double clicks because the logitech software need to be written. no biggie for me, I just want the moss and zero to work, I get WAY better fps in every game I play than before.

Well yes DMF you get better Fps cause your on a new machine.

But what you don't know is what you would have gotten on XP.

Well I can't get any better than what my monitor draws right? My refresh rate is 72, I've had fps of 75, and I had more memory on the old computer too.

DMF what graphics settings are you using on AH (not windows)..

Default is probably 1024X768 @ 512 Textures, or you may even have it as low as 256 Textures.

Try changing it to 1280X1024 @ 1024 Textures.. believe me you'll notice a FPS hit (although the graphics quality will ASTOUND you).

Enjoy

Right now I'm set at 1024x768 and 256 Texture. If I set it any higher than that will the a6m and moss problem go away too?
