Title: I remember when...
Post by: Ball on February 27, 2007, 01:44:34 PM: (Thought this would be quite a fun game. Start your post with 'I remember when...' and end it with '...'. Basically the aim is to make people remember funny incidents or game improvements which have been added)

I remember when... Skuzzy tried to fly in the MA and augered straight into an ammo bunker on takeoff in a C.202 because i told him it was a great fighter...

anyway, Beeger thought we should have a little free for all to try out some of the moves CPR, Fatz and Rafbader had showed us. while beeg was giving us the merge rules I flew up behind fatz and shot him down :lol . he cursed me all the way... I begged forgiveness as a newb (2 months) but Fatz wasnt buying it :lol

airsid just had to have a go at that , he drove it ( no spawn points then ) for 20 min or so to just get close to the enemy field just to roll the bi ch over lmao . It was too funny .

when....... people actually risked the perks to fly spit14's.

I could go on & on, but really, its not helping anything-

skys had no clouds...

after a year or two, you could tell with near certainty what kind of an airplane it was at about 5 miles because the developers made each aircraft dot "twinkle" a little differently...

there was nothing better than that mad rush of running a JU-52 in NOE hoping and praying that you would get close enough before you were seen ...

unless it was having the dots straight ahead resolve into an enemy flight of heavy fighters coming NOE to close your base - as you were running an NOE flight in to close theirs ...

The hours and hours hunting Bobn in his 190 with Nopoop ...

arguing with myself over spending yet another night in the game at $2.00 an hour ...

The sense of belonging that came with flying with the EZTargets that first time I flew online ... (I did it backwards, I'd flown offline probably in excess of (no exaggeration) 1000 hours over a year and a half, joined the most fun seeming squad I could find, and THEN signed up for online play)

The Aluminum waterfall in the P&D ...

Stir's "Ooooh Ghost.... guess what, I did it again!" (and looking back to see 7 bandits on Stir) ...

The first time I killed Daddy in his P51 ...

Mury explaining - for the 20th time - in that patient, ever thoughtful way of his ...

The first time I was ever ranted at, after HOing Stiglr by sheer accident after a couple of weeks of online play when I fired on something I couldn't even see coming out of the sun as I climbed into a headstand in my P38 - completely panicked because I'd lost track of him right on my six and I was sure he was right there right behind me and I just couldn't see him ...

driving home from the Con that first year after meeting so many of the people that up to that point hadn't really seemed "real"...

The sheer joy of setting the game time to nightfall, and taking up the Banshee Wail for a 40 minute evening flight across the map in offline mode, to land just after dark.

i remember when i used to bug the "best" to train me and get beat on for hours but keep getting better everytime...

i remember when the DA had killshooter off and was a billion times better because we didn't have to fly for 5 minutes to get 1 fight in...

LOL Ghastly, I have not thought about this in a long time. I used to go by EZdoc as an EZTarget back in Warbirds and early AH days, to an old EZTarget!

This is a tale of woe, its sad indeed
the story of how AirScrew lost his Luftwaffe steed.

He stayed up late after his squadmates had logged out
and decided to fly a lone Lancaster and help with the route.

He selected his munitions and launched with great care
with one notch of flaps the Lancaster was soon sailing on air.

He took his bearings and set his heading,
and decided the Knight Headquarters needed a banging.

Most of us know the Lancaster is slow, and not very thrilling to fly
so he went AFK to have a quick smoke and count the stars in the sky.

He wasn't gone long, ten minutes or less, and told everyone he was back.
But when he sat down he started to frown, "Oh My Gawd I'm under attack!"

A TA-152 was circling with glee,
Firing 20mm's at him like they were free.
(He cried, ”oh woe is me”.)

He jumped to his guns and fired clatter, clatter
but he failed to make the 152 splatter, and in no time at all his plane was in tatters.

His situation was grim as he rode his beast down and thought it was best to just bail.
But his fingers were slow and he didn’t hit O and he smacked right into the
ground.

He sat in a daze as his visions of glory faded off in the haze,
He wondered, “who was my killer?”
He wanted revenge no matter the cost, just like a cheap B movie thiller.

The System said Urchin is for whom he should be searchin and he began to plan his demise.
He knew the 152 was deadly and quick so he selected a 262, wasn’t he wise?

He scrambled his jet with nary a fret, cause he practiced alot offline.
He knew without a doubt this plane had clout and said “Soon Urchin will be mine.”
As he climbed to the clouds, in his search for Urchin, he began to plan his attack.

When suddenly around his plane there did appear puffs of black smoke, “Oh no the Flak factory is near.”
Panic? Not him, for his plane is small and oh so fast, he knew he had nothing to fear.

But wait, whats that he hears, a bang and a snap and now smoke he does smell,
He looks at his right wing, and it really looks like hell.
All that fire and smoke he knows this can’t be good, “perhaps I can turn back…,”
Nope too late.

Stat's didn't matter and red guys landed a whole bunch of kills patting themselves on the back with a job well done. Meanwhile I'm sitting back thinking all those kills that guy got were of me.....on the ground..... Now they think that guy landing all those kills is a god! I'm so going to learn to vulch!

I remember "feeling the hate".....

I remember Scavengers "diving down" posts on the AW BBS.

I remember driving down to Kesmai Studios to meet with and hang out and have lunch with Moggy, GE and BB.....just for the hell of it.

I remember checking out the AH beta and thinking, Man, these guys are on to smething.

I remember being so sad when I heard that AW was being thrown under the bus.......but thinking that at least AH would be there for my addiction

:rofl The bobn hunt!!! As a member of the WBs 352nd I went on a few of those. Bobn was the greatest troll I have ever seen, that guy could make Mother Theresa want to punch him in the face.

How about the "pony mafia"??? Somebody back then used to have this great take off on the Godfather logo with a 51 under the puppet strings. I would love to get that put on a Tshirt.

To start the glitch you had to park pointing uphill, shut the engine off, put it in gear and release the brakes. It would roll backwards in gear and when you started the motor it would take off in reverse with phenomenal speed. It was hard to drive and unforgiving, you could jump it a hundred yards and tumble a landing; it would roll very easily at speed. You used the forward gears; 6th gear was the slowest and in 1st gear you could accelerate from 300 mph to 400 mph in just a few seconds. I clocked a friend one night: I was in a P-51, WEP and coming out of a dive. He was in an Ostwind on the ocean and was outrunning me. One night we drove Osties over 100 miles to an enemy HQ and knocked it down; planes were searching for enemy planes and never imagined a GV that deep into their land. I think I wrecked 3 or 4 times en-route though. The glitch lasted less than a week before it was patched; Ostwinds and Panzers were zipping around everywhere at insane speeds. Man; that was a funny one.
