I was flying last night and this CHOG kept timidly trying to pick me. I was in my 1-hog and finally the CHOG went towrds his cv climbing out. I climbed a little watching for him then I noticed two dots coming from his cv. I headed that way and saw a hog, I was thinking oh yeah! Well as I merged with the hog I saw the other hog heading our way. As I got closer to the hog i was merging with, I noticed it wasn't the CHOG. So I took a quick look back at the CHOG as I entered my blackout on the imel. Next thing I know I come out of blackout and can't find the D-hog. I am hitting every # key trying to find this d-hog, and checking back for my CHOG the whole time. I level and look straight up to see D-hog 800 and closing. I pull up get him to miss and start to attempt to cut some angles here to get this guy, while I keep checking for the CHOG. THe second or third pass the D-hog came right down on top of me and chewed me to shreds. Shadow61 was the guy and he flew it very well, I
him for a good kill!
Moral of the strory, don't take your eyes off of a striking rattlesnake 2 feet in front of you to check behind you for the cottonmouth that may or may not be there at all!

You did the right thing. I'd rather die to the guy that fight me, than to the sissy cherry picker in the quad hizooka plane.

I was at a CV fight with Kamilyun the other day, we were the only ones there and holding off hoards of Sealfires. 3 F4U's appear with alt over CV and started cherrypicking us.
I took much delight in killing two of them in an LA7 after one had tried to drag me to his friend, and chasing the last one down as he tried to run back to base NOE in his chog.
Moral of the story - pickers never prosper :aok
(unless it is me of course, i am the only one allowed to pick)

When did normal war time tactics get to be viewed as low life antics in AH? As I have posted other places, the HO was used quite effectively, with superior cannon or machine gun equipped planes (also heavily armored US style planes) against lesser equipped enemy planes.
Also, the dreaded cherry pick! Read the bios of the great ones. They USUALLY attacked only when advantaged.
Believing every encounter should occur co-alt and co-E is just silly.
As Douglas Bader said, "It's not a bloody game of cricket".
ps, I won't even talk about what would have happened if the enemy kept upping planes at a capped field. Do you really think the figthers would have let them up? ROFL

TalonX, I respect your opinion and have over the years. I would like to set my view straight on this matter. This is not war, it is a game. A game where one can up planes 24/7 365 days a year for as long as HT and crew are in business. That being said, one might want to start setting some personal rules for oneself to give the game a certain sense of dignity. I try real hard not to HO anyone, but I will vulch if all the flying red guys are dead. I know people that refuse to ever, and I mean ever, vulch! I try to not attack a 2 plane fight unless asking the green fellow if it's OK if I help, but if I saw the green guy HOing during the fight, sometimes I just leave him to die! I try to never fly towards a fight that is multi-friendly vs 1 enemy, and many times I will try to let a fellow ditch if he has put up a good fight but wont make it back to base. I think that it is good for gameplay for people to be vocal about these and other issues, as it tends to set up several classes of players, none being any better as real life people than any others. Within the community these different players find where they choose to be and they can feel good about it. Now if a game has a safety mode, (staying 8 k above a furball and cherry picking) and several in the community always play in that mode, then the community loses a little bit of fight! If a fellow only goes to fields where a vulch is on, the community loses a little bit of fight. If a fellow will only attack if he has the speed to run all the way back to his base to not risk any harm to his plane, the community loses a little bit of fight. If a fellow only HO's on every merge, he deprives the other fellow of learning from a good fight, hence the community loses a little bit of fight. Since this is a game about war, then keeping the "fight" in the game is high on my list!
Understand that although myself and others can get vocal about these issues, many times they are issues that need to be discussed. A player has the right to play however he/she may want to, and the community has the right, to judge how the game is being played, if it is the interest of the concept of the game.

I agree with SkyRock
TalonX, you and I have had our disagreements in the MW. It's all a part of the game. And GAME is exactly what it is. I understand the passion for WWII and the tactics, we all love it, but that is what FSO and other scenarios are for, or even the AvA. In the MA, I do exactly as SR mentioned, I don't fly the stratosphere and only pounce when the red plane is engaged, I do my very best to not HO another, even in uneven fights and I certainly NEVER run away from a fight. Yet, this is all you usually find in the MA arenas anymore. Occasionally, you can get a great 1v1 or 2v1 but its rare anymore.

.....and when you do get that occasional 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 2's, it is a time of greatness, a roll of the dice, biting the bullet, leaveing it all in the air, go for it, just do it, wassabee................  ooops, wrong commercial. You get the point!

not that my opinion counts but as a relative newcomer to the game (I consider anybody with less than 2 years a newcomer to this game) I try to play the way Skyrock just mentioned. On the other hand if we're doing a base capture on a squad night I will vulch if need be.
One of the best fights I've ever had was last week in AVA. Don't remember the gentlemans name but we must have merged half a dozen times. Neither fired on the HO and neither of us could gain an advantage. One time I got him stalled and in what looked like a flat spin and I COULD have blasted him right there. I flew by, he regained control, we battled a little longer and he eventually took my wing off. A lot of the new guys and some of the old would think 'geez dicho you're an idiot' and that's okay. I personally had a blast against someone who is probably about my equal in skill and I think we both learned a few things.

No worries Repo. Half the 200 banter is to try to egg each other into something stupid anyway. I always found you will to engage in a fight.
I also agree with SR on many points. For me, I fly everything in the game. I tailor my tactics to the mission at hand, since I fly in a fairly active squadron. Sometimes we furball, sometimes take bases. We do fighter sweeps where I love the Tempest (BNZ).
As far as the HO goes, I try to avoid it until I see incoming tracers. Once it starts, I won't avoid it. I do love kicking hard rudder and raking his plane :)
Lately, I find myself wondering why there is so much flaming of others desires in the game. Let them fly their way, and we should fly ours.

5 years plus, and I'll still enjoy a fight with someone who's roughly my equal more than pwning half a dozen noobs or cherry picking someone better. Anyone who doesn't enjoy a good fight with an equal is playing the wrong game.
