Title: Going to dual core
Post by: Delirium on March 03, 2007, 10:53:57 PM: I got myself a dual core chip, problem is that the motherboard won't recognize it and (I'm guessing) it boots as a single core chip. It currently lists it as an 'AMD Processor Model Unknown' both in the bios and in Windows.

I did some checking, and from what I'm reading my motherboard (A8n SLI-Deluxe) will not recognize it unless the bio is rev 1016.09 or later and my current is 1011. Perhaps I am reading this incorrectly...

If I am reading this correctly, I am really uncomfortable flashing my bios... I have never done it before and I have no clue how to go about it. Can anyone offer any advice?

The chip is in and functioning without any problems... in fact, its running cooler than my older one.

Motherboard: A8N SLI-Deluxe, socket 939
CPU: Athlon FX-60 2.6
OS: WinXP Pro

Post by: Delirium on March 04, 2007, 03:42:51 AM: Way ahead of ya and I have visited and read that site extensively... using a floppy, I instead boot from the A: drive instead, making sure both the flash proggie and the new bio are on the same disk.

I wanted to make sure this was correct before I did anything.

I've flashed bios dozens of times and I still get very nervous each time... but keep in mind that 99% of the time you can jumper "reset bios" on the motherboard and revert to the original bios version if a problem should arise.

See my Curren-Upgrade? post below, I just did the same thing except with an ASUS A8V. I used the alt-f2 method of flashing the bios. Make sure you download all the dual core patches after you have the BIOS done, again see my other post.

From your post above it looks like you have it down pat , just follow the instructions and you will be fine . I think everyone is nervous the first time you Flash lol, but it will be fine . Just dont do it on a very stormy day or if theres a chance that the power could go out 8). Rukee

Post by: Delirium on March 05, 2007, 05:10:26 AM: Nervous? I downloaded the new bios THREE times to make sure I didn't make a mistake and download the wrong one.

I downloaded the flash tool twice, again, ensuring I didn't screw up.

I printed the manual and saved the old bios, making sure I had the means to rewrite the incorrect or corrupted bios.

I stood for the entire flashing duration, crossing my fingers and ready to sacrifice a farm animal to ensure it went well.

Jokes aside, everything works perfectly... Windows recognizes the new dual core and I didn't have any problems what so ever.
